"The room was fine. It wasn't very clean, but it wasn't too bad either. The location isn't ideal if you're planning to use the subway, as you'll need to walk more than 1 km to the nearest station. However, if you plan to use taxis, it's perfectly convenient. The terrace was definitely the best part of the hotel. 😅 Overall, it was a decent stay."

The hotel gives the retro vibe which I like it. There is no laundry room in hotel but the high-price laundry service is provided. The complimentary afternoon-tea provided us the view of the perl tower. The service is ok. "

📍 No. 600 Changshou Road, Putuo District, Shanghai
★★★★★ 9.1 (7,518 reviews)

"The hotel could be a bit cleaner. The carpets in the room should honestly be replaced or properly cleaned, they were really dirty and gave the room a weird smell. The first room I got at check in was below what I expected for the price, and it even smelled like someone had been smoking in there or it just had not been cleaned properly. I asked to change rooms and the manager was very pleasant and helpful, a genuinely warm person. The second room was definitely better and smelled clean, even though the carpet still had noticeable stains. Breakfast was great, lots of variety and it also caters well to western tastes, so 10 out of 10 for that. The location is perfect and the staff are friendly and welcoming."

"Our stay at this hotel was absolutely amazing. The rooms were exceptionally clean, brand new, and incredibly functional with impressive modern technology - from automated lighting controls to opening and closing the curtains, everything felt smart, stylish, and thoughtfully designed. It truly felt like we were staying in a very new hotel, possibly not even a year old yet. We especially loved the beautiful interior design, which created such a fresh and elegant atmosphere throughout our entire stay. What truly made this experience exceptional, however, was the outstanding professionalism of the staff. Even compared to many five-star hotels, the level of service here was remarkable. Every team member was friendly, attentive, and genuinely helpful. A very special thank you to Manager Jade for her kindness, friendliness, and incredible support with every question we had. She made our stay even more comfortable and memorable. We stayed for 5 days, and every single day we genuinely enjoyed the cleanliness, professionalism, and overall high standards of this hotel. We would also like to specially highlight the breakfasts - served in a beautiful bright space with a wonderful atmosphere. The variety of European breakfast options was excellent, the products were fresh and high quality, and the breakfast staff were consistently warm and welcoming. We are truly happy that we chose to stay here and would absolutely recommend this hotel to others."

"This hotel has two pools, one indoor and one outdoor. I personally prefer the outdoor pool, which opens on May 1st for the summer season. There's also a large lawn area, which is very pleasant for an evening stroll. I'd recommend bringing mosquito repellent, as there can be mosquitoes outdoors, which is to be expected given the rich vegetation at the foot of Sheshan Mountain. The scenery is really lovely, very lush and green. The breakfast is decent, with options like mini wontons and noodles. Overall, it's a great choice for families with kids. Bob provided good service. There are also other recreational facilities around the hotel."

"The room itself was alright, but the housekeeping staff's attitude was truly subpar. There was an older lady I asked for a kids' toothbrush, and she just completely ignored me! Let's talk about the hotel breakfast next: the room included two breakfasts. We had two adults and two children. Children over seven were charged 88 per person (but how do you even determine a child's age?). Fine, we accepted that, but once we got in, the breakfast was truly beyond words. Even the kids said they'd never had such a terrible hotel breakfast! Besides bread and such, there was really nothing else to eat! Absolutely awful!"

Radisson Blu Hotel Shanghai New World Hotels in Shanghai

Radisson Blu Hotel Shanghai New World

"For a Radisson brand hotel with those prices, the room is VERY poorly appointed, even though I was assigned the cheapest room. Old carpets, a TV the size of a computer monitor, and an incredibly old and dirty curtain. The only good thing is its proximity to the Metro station, but I’d rather walk two blocks and stay at the Conrad, Holiday Inn, or Crowne Plaza for a similar price. I travel every year, but this is my last time staying at this hotel."

"The Jin Mao Tower itself is one of Lujiazui's iconic trio of buildings, and staying here offers direct views of the Huangpu River and the Oriental Pearl TV Tower – the vista is truly breathtaking! Our room was on the 74th floor, and seeing the Jin Mao's internal structure was also spectacular. The hotel's decor feels a bit dated, but the room size is generous, and the service was genuinely excellent. When we checked in, the lobby manager noticed we had a child and gave us a cute Milk Dragon plushie, which made my little sister so happy. Because our flight was late, I asked the lovely front desk staff, and even though the hotel was very busy, she still managed to arrange a late check-out for me, which I really appreciated. Breakfast was also quite good, with a mix of Chinese and Western options, though you might have to queue if you go too late, so it's better to go early. Oh, and I booked a group deal on Ctrip, which also included a few tickets to the insect museum – such great value! The twin beds were two 1.2-meter beds that could be pushed together, so there was plenty of space for a family of four. All in all, for a trip to Shanghai, staying here is really great and I'm very satisfied!"

Where to Stay in Shanghai

Shanghai moves fast but still gives you moments to slow down. In the morning, locals line up at small shops for soy milk, fried dough, and steamed buns while office workers walk briskly toward metro stations. Streets near the river feel calm early on, with joggers, delivery bikes, and cafés opening their doors one by one. In older lanes, you see laundry hanging outside, neighbors chatting, and small eateries preparing noodles for lunch. As the day goes on, the city gets busier. Cars fill the roads, shops along Nanjing Road welcome shoppers, and people move between meetings, meals, and errands. By late afternoon, the light softens along the Bund, couples take photos, and friends meet for coffee or tea. At night, the skyline lights up, restaurants stay open late, and the sound of conversations mixes with traffic and music. Staying in Shanghai feels lively but manageable, with everyday scenes that make the city feel real and easy to enjoy.

Pudong handles most international flights, while Hongqiao is popular for domestic routes and is closer to the city center.

Tips for Booking Shanghai Hotels

Book Early for Peak Travel Seasons

Shanghai is a top travel and business destination. Hotels can get fully booked during Chinese New Year, Golden Week, and summer holidays. Popular spots like the Bund, Pudong, and Nanjing Road are the first to sell out. Booking early gives you better rates and more room choices.

Check for Major Events

When Shanghai hosts large trade shows, expos, or concerts, hotel prices in business hubs like Pudong and Jing’an can go up fast. If you're traveling for fun, booking ahead helps you avoid high last-minute rates and gives you a better chance at staying close to attractions or metro stations.

Look Out for Online Deals

Sites like Trip.com often have discounts, cashback, or member-only rates. First-time users may get extra perks. These deals can help you save money that you can use for street food, museum tickets, or shopping at places like Nanjing Road or Tianzifang.

Pick the Right Area for Your Trip

Shanghai is big, but different areas suit different traveler needs. You can often save by choosing a spot that fits your trip style:

  • French Concession – Great for a relaxed vibe, local cafés, and boutique stays.
  • Hongqiao – Budget-friendly hotels with easy airport and train station access.
  • People’s Square / Nanjing Road – Central location, perfect for sightseeing, shopping, and first-time visitors.
  • Yangpu or Putuo – More local, less touristy, often cheaper but still connected by metro.
