"I decided to book this B&B after comparing many hotels! It turned out to be the right choice! The price-performance ratio is very good! The room I stayed in was on the second floor, clean and hygienic, and breakfast was included, especially the freshly fried pancakes were delicious! I stayed for two nights, and both were provided with Disney pick-up and drop-off. When I checked out, the boss also sent me to the subway station, which saved a lot of money on taxis. The boss was enthusiastic and approachable, and gave a lot of travel suggestions. If I go to Disney in the future, I will stay here again. Hygiene: clean and hygienic! Environment: very new decoration! Service: Disney pick-up and drop-off, including breakfast!"

"A paradise for kids! They have a playground, childcare services, and even small animals. Unfortunately, I was injured and couldn't go to the beach to play in the water. The breakfast was pretty good, with delicious mung bean soup. The kids had so much fun they didn't want to leave! We'll definitely come back to play in the water if we get the chance. They also provided a complimentary cake and decorations for my birthday, and the shuttle driver was excellent. Overall, there were no complaints."

Le Meridien Shanghai Sheshan Hotels in Shanghai

Le Meridien Shanghai Sheshan

"This time we chose Le Méridien Sheshan, and the room was quite spacious, as was the bathroom. It even had a large bathtub. The hotel is located far from the city center, making it very quiet. Across the street, there's Happy Valley and Maya Beach Water Park. Booking a room during a promotion offers excellent value for money. Although it's an older hotel, the facilities are well-maintained, and Bob provided warm and friendly service. The hotel also offers great privacy. I'd definitely consider staying here again if I have the chance."

Hotel Chalet Shanghai ★★★★
"This hotel's location is truly excellent. It's just a few minutes' walk from Metro Line 2, and the best part is it's only a 5-minute walk to Nanjing East Road. We could easily go back to the hotel to rest when we got tired from shopping and then head out again. The cleanliness is also superb, and the service is great. I really liked the scent of the toiletries too. I'll definitely choose this place again when I visit Shanghai in the future. Highly recommended! My child was very happy. The breakfast was also rich and varied, and the front desk staff were so kind and friendly. Five stars!"

Dihang Boutique Hotel (Shanghai Pudong Airport) ★★★
"The pickup service is commendable! Whether it's the middle of the night or during the day, when you call the front desk, the front desk attendant immediately notifies the driver. The driver also calls you in advance to confirm the pickup location and tells you the license plate number to ensure guests don't miss their ride. This service even surpasses Ramada's. Last time, when I stayed at Ramada and Vienna respectively, I had to wait for and find the car myself, and eventually saw a sign with Ramada's schedule 😓. The front desk staff are excellent 👍🏻, always ready to answer any questions. This shows that the owner or executive manager of Dihang Hotel has a very high level of management. For this price, the room is quite good; everything is great except that the towels need updating. The price is affordable, The service is excellent, The room is comfortable, And they are very helpful."

Crowne Plaza SHANGHAI NANJING ROAD by IHG ★★★★★
"The staff told me my room had been upgraded, but upon checking in, I found that my king room had been 'upgraded' to a twin room. Although they eventually switched me back to a king room, it turned out to be two twin beds pushed together. There was a 20cm gap on both sides of the bed from the nightstands. And they called this an upgrade! The entire process of handling and communicating with me, a solo traveler, was completely dismissive. I definitely wouldn't recommend this hotel and won't be staying here again!"

Da Zhong Airport Hotel ★★★
"I had an early flight and wanted to avoid a tiring journey, so I decided to stay at an airport hotel the night before. This hotel is conveniently located right between Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. You can take the elevator down from the middle section of the North and South Towers, and then it's just a few minutes' walk to either terminal, which is really handy. However, the hotel facilities are quite old, and as soon as I opened the door, there was a musty smell. Definitely not good value for money."

Mercure Shanghai Yu Garden On the Bund ★★★★
"The service was excellent; I arrived at the hotel in the morning, and they allowed early check-in. The location is superb, within walking distance of Yu Garden and the City God Temple, and also walkable to the Bund and Nanjing Road. Yu Garden is less than a 10-minute walk away. Nearby, at Gangcheng Mingdu, you can find Haidilao hot pot and mala tang. There's also a convenience store just over the overpass. When I returned to the hotel in the evening, there was supper available. The self-service laundry was very convenient, and the lobby offered free herbal tea and hot tea. A great bonus was the shuttle service to Yu Garden, the Bund, Xintiandi, and Yunnan Road Food Street."

Where to Stay in Shanghai

Shanghai moves fast but still gives you moments to slow down. In the morning, locals line up at small shops for soy milk, fried dough, and steamed buns while office workers walk briskly toward metro stations. Streets near the river feel calm early on, with joggers, delivery bikes, and cafés opening their doors one by one. In older lanes, you see laundry hanging outside, neighbors chatting, and small eateries preparing noodles for lunch. As the day goes on, the city gets busier. Cars fill the roads, shops along Nanjing Road welcome shoppers, and people move between meetings, meals, and errands. By late afternoon, the light softens along the Bund, couples take photos, and friends meet for coffee or tea. At night, the skyline lights up, restaurants stay open late, and the sound of conversations mixes with traffic and music. Staying in Shanghai feels lively but manageable, with everyday scenes that make the city feel real and easy to enjoy.

Tips for Booking Shanghai Hotels

Book Early for Peak Travel Seasons

Shanghai is a top travel and business destination. Hotels can get fully booked during Chinese New Year, Golden Week, and summer holidays. Popular spots like the Bund, Pudong, and Nanjing Road are the first to sell out. Booking early gives you better rates and more room choices.

Check for Major Events

When Shanghai hosts large trade shows, expos, or concerts, hotel prices in business hubs like Pudong and Jing’an can go up fast. If you're traveling for fun, booking ahead helps you avoid high last-minute rates and gives you a better chance at staying close to attractions or metro stations.

Look Out for Online Deals

Sites like Trip.com often have discounts, cashback, or member-only rates. First-time users may get extra perks. These deals can help you save money that you can use for street food, museum tickets, or shopping at places like Nanjing Road or Tianzifang.

Pick the Right Area for Your Trip

Shanghai is big, but different areas suit different traveler needs. You can often save by choosing a spot that fits your trip style:

  • French Concession – Great for a relaxed vibe, local cafés, and boutique stays.
  • Hongqiao – Budget-friendly hotels with easy airport and train station access.
  • People’s Square / Nanjing Road – Central location, perfect for sightseeing, shopping, and first-time visitors.
  • Yangpu or Putuo – More local, less touristy, often cheaper but still connected by metro.
