Shanghai Hostels

Among all the hostels I've stayed at in Shanghai, Dayin is by far the best. It was my first time traveling without my own toothbrush and bath towel, and Dayin provided them for free, which was a pleasant surprise. At other hostels, you often have to pay for disposable towels, which isn't a great experience. My roommates were all quiet and kept to themselves, perfect for someone looking for a peaceful rest.

After staying in the first room on the first night, I booked another room in the same hotel for the second night. This room was slightly more expensive (around 10 RMB more) but it had a window facing the road. The room had all the same basic amenities as the first one, including Wi-Fi, slippers, dental kit, shower gel, towels, and a hairdryer. The cleanliness was also just as good. The room was very clean with no dust, and the bathroom was neat and well maintained. Compared with the first room, this one was slightly larger and felt more comfortable mainly because of the window. The window provided natural light and ventilation, which made the room feel much more open and pleasant. Overall, everything I mentioned in my previous review about the hotel—such as the cleanliness, basic amenities, reasonable price, and convenient location—also applies to this room. The only difference is that this room is slightly bigger and has a window, which makes it a bit more comfortable. If you are deciding between the two, paying a little extra for the window room is worth it. This hostel was my choice for a whirlwind trip, and it's super close to Nanjing East Road. I'd come back really late after exploring, and it was reassuring for a female traveler to know the front desk was staffed 24/7. The privacy in the dorm beds was decent. Bathrooms were cleaned quite promptly, though you might have to wait a bit when it's busy. They offer free luggage storage, which is a huge plus for tourists, and it's definitely worth considering for students on a budget.

I specifically chose this hostel to experience the old Shikumen lane houses. It's tucked away deep in a bustling alley, and you have to navigate through winding old streets and traditional iron gates to get in. Stepping inside, you're immediately immersed in the vibrant atmosphere of old Shanghai, a delightful surprise for its tranquil location amidst the hustle and bustle. The renovated old house retains its vintage wooden windows and old floor tiles, and the courtyard is filled with greenery. I woke up to the aroma of breakfast stalls from the lane each morning, and in the evenings, I enjoyed the breeze in the courtyard, fully experiencing local life. The beds come with blackout curtains, individual reading lights, and charging ports. Storage lockers are complete, and the bedding is changed daily, fresh and odorless. The bathrooms are cleaned in sections, with 24-hour hot water. The public living area is spacious, with bookshelves, board games, a microwave, and a self-service washing machine – full of thoughtful details. The owner and staff are warm and genuine, proactively sharing local hidden gems for food and off-the-beaten-path routes, helping me avoid tourist traps. Shopping districts and the subway are within walking distance, and there are old-school pastry shops all around. The value for money is absolutely amazing. It's my top choice for solo travelers and students. I'll definitely stay here again next time I'm in Shanghai!

The location is great, very close to the subway station, making it convenient to get to The Bund and Nanjing Road. There are also plenty of dining options nearby. The hostel itself is quite clean; both the common areas and bathrooms are regularly tidied, which gives you peace of mind. The front desk staff are very friendly and welcoming without being intrusive. The hostel has a good atmosphere; you can sit and chat or relax in the lobby, which is perfect for solo travelers. The bunk beds have curtains, offering decent privacy, and there are sockets and a small light by the bed – everything you need is there. For this price in Shanghai, it's really excellent value for money. I'd definitely consider staying here again on my next visit.

This place is truly a hidden 'paradise' right in the heart of Shanghai's fashion district! My favorite part is the large street-facing terrace on the third floor – it's super relaxing to just sit there, feel the evening breeze, and zone out. It's also within walking distance to the US Visa Application Center, which is incredibly convenient for anyone coming to get their visa done, saving them the hassle of rushing early in the morning. Located at No. 1213 West Beijing Road, it's right next to the core business district of West Nanjing Road. It's only a few hundred meters from Nanjing West Road Station (Metro Lines 2 & 12) and Jing'an Temple Station (Metro Lines 2 & 7), making it easy to walk anywhere. Surrounding it are popular malls like Plaza 66, Meilongzhen Plaza, and Citic Square, so you can easily go shopping or grab a meal after your visa appointment. The front desk service was also very warm and attentive. For anyone needing to apply for a US visa or looking for a high-value-for-money place to stay in the city center, this is definitely the top choice!

Facilities: The facilities are very complete. The front desk provides toothbrushes and earplugs, and I even saw disposable bath towels. The Laifen hair dryer was excellent. However, the door to the single room was transparent, very transparent (see photo 4), which made me, as a woman, feel very unsafe. Also, the charger was too far from the pillow, so I couldn't charge my phone and use it while lying down. This is definitely something to be aware of. Service: The service attitude was great. They answered all my questions, and the staff were very enthusiastic. Hygiene: The environment was truly terrible. I booked a single room, and when I entered, there was a strange, damp, and moldy smell. The bed sheets weren't clean either; they had crumbs and oil stains, which was really unpleasant for anyone staying there. I immediately ordered a disposable sleeping bag. Moreover, the desk was completely uncleaned, covered in crumbs. The toilet was okay in terms of hygiene, definitely cleaner than the room itself.

The bed was clean and they offer 2 disposable towels. You can also pick up some mini disposable face towels and earplugs at the front desk. I was worried about sharing room with others, but everyone in my room were very quiet and didn’t distract me at all. Location was good. I walked through the street from Waitan to hostel at night. It took less than 30 mins and quite safe to walk alone. I would love to visit here again.

The interior facilities are quite complete, with a cooking area, range hood, and washing machine. It's suitable for long-term stays. The shower drainage isn't very smooth, but the cleanliness is acceptable.

Cleanliness: well it is clean. Except for th Comfort room there is a yellowish on the side floor. When you open the door, you will see the snall kitchen and on its front the small comfort room. The bed is big and nice even the cabinets and table. There is no hair blower. The ref is not working. It was a cheapest and nice apartment hotel as it is like a small condo for a couple.
