SSAW Boutique Hotel Shanghai Bund

This is my second time staying at this hotel. The first time was two years ago when I visited Shanghai with my family, and the experience was excellent; the front desk service was very attentive. The best part is the amazing location, making it convenient to go anywhere. That's why I booked this hotel again for my current trip back to Shanghai. I've even recommended it to my British friends who are coming to Shanghai. It's really great!

Summary: The worst service I've ever encountered in a hotel of this caliber. I stayed for 2 days. On the first night when I checked in, I noticed there was no doorman at the hotel entrance to open car doors or help with luggage. I asked the front desk if no one was on duty at night. The manager, who had a great attitude, said someone might have been out delivering something, and that it was quieter at night but they would improve. (He had a very good attitude and offered me breakfast, though I didn't eat it as I don't usually have breakfast). Then I asked the front desk for a latex pillow. I waited for half an hour upstairs, but it wasn't delivered. When I called, they said they forgot. Next, while looking for a charging port by the bed, I knocked over a glass and got really annoyed as to why the glass was placed by the bedside late at night (this was my fault, as I was quite angry at the time). The manager, with a great attitude, came to help clean it up, and I even went to the front desk the next day to apologize. Second day: I left my earphones, cigarettes, and lighter in the car. I messaged the driver to arrange for the concierge to bring them up. They were never brought up until the next day when I was checking out to go to the airport. I asked the driver why they hadn't been brought up, and the driver said he had given them to the concierge last night. I went to ask: the concierge said they forgot to deliver them. By the way: when I returned to the hotel on the second night, I still noticed there was no doorman or security. Car doors and luggage were unattended. I really don't know! What exactly is the concierge at this hotel doing! What are they responsible for!!! Facilities: The facilities are very good, the rooms are large, and the walk-in closet is excellent. I usually try out the pool and gym at every hotel, but I wasn't in the mood this time. I won't be coming back.

The Shanghai Yangtze Hotel is a hotel I wholeheartedly recommend. I had already fallen in love with this hotel from pictures, with its amazing Republic of China-era Shanghai ambiance. So, there was no question in my mind about staying here this time. The hotel's transportation is incredibly convenient; it's super easy to get around. The subway station is practically at the doorstep, about 20 meters away – almost zero distance! The bedding was of superior quality, ensuring an excellent night's sleep. The bathroom was spacious, with a well-arranged layout for the wash basin, vanity, bathtub, shower, and toilet. It was fully equipped, even featuring a smart toilet. The walk-in closet was amply sized, and I loved that the light didn't harshy glare on when you opened the door; it automatically turned off after a minute, a truly thoughtful design. Breakfast was extensive, a great blend of Chinese and Western options, and tasted delicious. All the hotel staff were polite and attentive, making for a very comfortable experience. I will definitely choose the Shanghai Yangtze Hotel again next time.

Had a fantastic stay at this hotel. The location is excellent, with easy access to transportation. While the room facilities aren't the newest, the bedding was comfortable, making for a very relaxing stay. The front desk staff were quite friendly and welcoming, making me feel right at home. Overall, the hotel's environment and cleanliness are far superior to express hotels in the same price range. Highly recommend.

Haha, this hotel offers great value for money, and I even got a room upgrade! **Amenities:** Loved the power strip provided. **Cleanliness:** Clean and refreshing. **Service:** Excellent. **Environment:** Conveniently located to everything. When I was planning to visit the 'Crown of the World Tree' exhibition at the Shanghai Museum, I discovered that the hotel was just a short walk across a skybridge and diagonally opposite the museum – less than a 10-minute stroll! If I got tired walking around the museum, I could even pop back to the hotel for an hour's rest before returning. It was such a pleasant surprise; I've never had such a convenient museum visit before. What a hidden gem of a hotel!

Banyan Tree Shanghai On The Bund

I chose this hotel because it was recommended by Ctrip as the number one hotel for room views. I often stay at Banyan Tree hotels when I'm vacationing abroad. However, the Banyan Tree Shanghai was quite a disappointment. First, I'm not sure how it topped Ctrip's list. There are many hotels with better views at the same price point. The standard rooms here only offer a view of the river. If you're going for a deluxe room, there are definitely better hotels to choose from. I arrived at the hotel around 9 PM, and the ambient lighting was very dim, which gave a poor first impression. During check-in, it was the first time a five-star hotel tried to upsell me a room upgrade. It felt like I was at an all-season hotel being pushed to sign up for a membership card. I mentioned that it was my birthday the next day and asked if the hotel could provide some decorations. The response was that I'd need to inform the front desk again tomorrow for the decoration service. Why do I need to inform them twice? Most hotels offer concierge services nowadays, but Banyan Tree requires me to go to the front desk again the next day for decorations. This really shows a lack of service awareness. Ctrip automatically offers room upgrades, and since it was my birthday, I rarely encounter situations where an upgrade isn't given. When I asked why I couldn't be upgraded, they said there were no rooms available. However, I checked the room availability and saw there were. When I asked again, they replied it depends on the situation and couldn't be arranged at that moment. Upon reaching my room, I ordered takeout, only to find that it could only be delivered to the entrance. I then had to call the front desk to confirm my order before staff would bring it up, which was very inconvenient. After opening the window, the view was actually mediocre – half river view, half of the offices in the opposite securities building (clearly visible). It was a far cry from the advertised scenic views. I wanted to upgrade my room and asked a staff member to show me around. After the tour, I was told there were no rooms available. I went to the hotel pool and found it to be an underground children's pool, also selling ** fitness packages. The pool walls were old and moldy. I really wouldn't recommend it. On the positive side: The staff member who showed me the upgraded room, the restaurant staff, the bellboy, and the rooftop bar staff were all very pleasant and provided genuine service. The hotel breakfast was excellent, plentiful, and delicious, and served until 12 PM. Check-out time could be arranged flexibly. Ignoring the view with the window closed, the room space arrangement was very good. In summary: It's an older five-star hotel, half of which feels outdated and the upselling felt a bit 'low-rent.' The other half still maintains the standards of a high-end hotel. Overall, the value for money is low, and the comfort level is also low.

Chateau Star River Shanghai

The European Baroque style is grand, and even the basic rooms are spacious at over 70 sqm, featuring a 2.2-meter king-size bed, a balcony, and a well-designed layout that makes for a very comfortable stay. The service is warm and friendly, breakfast and the buffet are plentiful, and the pool is beautiful. It's suitable for both families with children and business travelers. The downsides are that some facilities are a bit dated since the hotel has been open for several years, the location is a bit out in the suburbs and far from the subway, a few rooms occasionally have some minor cleaning issues in corners, and the underground parking entrance is a bit narrow.

Having previously stayed at the Regent Beijing, this time I chose the Regent Shanghai Pudong! The hotel boasts an excellent location, making it very convenient to get to IFC and not far from the metro station. Plus, there are many attractions nearby. The staff I encountered were all professional and patient, responding to all my needs promptly whether I contacted them by phone or WeChat beforehand! The afternoon tea and happy hour at the lounge were great. While the breakfast selection wasn't as varied as the restaurant on the first floor, the view definitely made up for it!

The front desk staff, Qiqi and Mina, were incredibly warm and friendly. They went out of their way to help, making me feel right at home. Their professionalism and attentiveness truly made this trip even more memorable. The breakfast was plentiful and a great value, and even on weekend mornings, it wasn't too crowded.
