"They have a shuttle service from the airport, and unlike other hotel shuttles that combine multiple hotels into one big bus, this one is spacious and quiet. It even runs at 2 AM, and the driver mentioned it operates until 3 AM, every hour on the hour. The front desk staff were very friendly and confirmed if I needed an airport drop-off shuttle and at what time during check-in. All my requests were met. It's also very convenient to buy things or eat downstairs."

"I walked from Shanghai Railway Station to the Hiyee Chic Hotel, which was very close. Upon arrival, I was lucky enough to get a free upgrade from a business king room to a deluxe king room. The room was very clean and stylishly decorated. It had a street-facing window, which made it convenient to open for fresh air. Downstairs, there's a FamilyMart convenience store, perfect for snacks and bottled water. There are also many subway and bus stations nearby, making it very easy to get around. The hotel service was excellent, with daily housekeeping. The hotel provided breakfast vouchers for use at Kuweile downstairs; any amount exceeding the voucher value required self-payment. Kuweile's environment, service, and food were all great. I was very satisfied with my stay, giving it a full five-star rating."

"Booked a collection executive room and was very happy with my room on the 29th floor with the most perfect view on Shanghai's skyline. Hotel is perfectly located on the Nanjing East road in the very center of Shanghai. Hotel itself and rooms are a bit worn out - need renovation in the nearest future but room was immaculately clean and provided with fresh bottled water every day. Breakfast was very good - both chinese and western. cuisine provided, lot of fruit, pastry and very good coffee. Special thanks to the executive lounge manager Annie who is the most friendly and helpful lady with perfect knowledge of english language. During the happy hours and afternoon tea time Ms. Annie explained clearly all the choices of food served and the beverages."

"The location is fantastic!! Cannot beat this location right on nanjing road. Popular eats such as lailai xlb 2 mins walk away. One consideration tho, for people with accessibility challenges the set up of this hotel is a bit strange. Within the same floor, somehow it’s separated into two levels. You need to climb up a narrow staircase to get up to your room for some rooms. This was a bit challenging with the suitcases. Other than that, can’t complain with this location."

"Fantastic stay at the Treasury Hotel – highly recommend. We had an excellent stay at the Treasury Hotel in Shanghai. The room was spotless when we arrived and was cleaned to a really high standard throughout our stay, which honestly makes such a difference when you’re travelling. The hotel itself feels well looked after and comfortable, and everything worked exactly as it should. What really stood out was the staff. Every single person we dealt with was genuinely friendly, welcoming, and happy to help. Anytime we needed directions, recommendations, or help figuring out transport, they went out of their way to explain things clearly and make sure we were sorted. Nothing felt like a hassle, and they were always smiling and approachable. The location is also a big plus – very convenient for getting around Shanghai, with shops, food, and transport links nearby. It made exploring the city really easy. Overall, this hotel offers great value, excellent cleanliness, and outstanding service. We’d absolutely stay here again and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to anyone visiting Shanghai."

"This old-school five-star hotel under the InterContinental Hotels Group really lived up to its reputation. The location is super convenient, right on Nanjing Road, the 'Paris of the East,' making it easy to check in even after enjoying Shanghai's nightlife. "My stay at the Mercure Hotel was fantastic, definitely a 5-star experience! The location is very convenient, the room was clean and tidy, and the front desk staff, especially the young man, was incredibly friendly and helpful, answering all my questions and even recommending local attractions. "This is my second time staying here. The hotel staffs are very friendly and helpful. They try their best to accommodate us in all aspects. I bought a pair of shoes that would be delivered to the hotel on the next day, I informed the concierge and they thoroughly went through details of the expected parcel to prevent errors and miscommunication with the delivery. The next day when my parcel arrived, the concierge called and make sure the parcel delivering was the correct one for me. As for the house keeping, they noticed that we drank all 4 bottles of complimentary water everyday and from our 3rd day of staying onward they gave us 6 bottles without our request. Not to mention that I accidentally spilled milk over my bed in the rush, I informed the front desk before we headed out and they enthusiastically told me not to worry they would send the house keeper to change my bed sheet right away. In the morning of our last day, Oliver from the front desk called to confirm our check out and informed that hotel’s check out time was twelve noon. They also asked how many luggage we had and what time would we want the concierge to come collect them which I told them to come up around 11am, and at 11am sharp they rang on my door. Oliver from the front desk came along with the concierge, accompanied us down and helped us through the check out process and luggage deposit. Around 1:30 pm when we came back from lunch, our luggage was ready for us to pick up and headed out to the airport."

Where to Stay in Shanghai

Shanghai moves fast but still gives you moments to slow down. In the morning, locals line up at small shops for soy milk, fried dough, and steamed buns while office workers walk briskly toward metro stations. Streets near the river feel calm early on, with joggers, delivery bikes, and cafés opening their doors one by one. In older lanes, you see laundry hanging outside, neighbors chatting, and small eateries preparing noodles for lunch. As the day goes on, the city gets busier. Cars fill the roads, shops along Nanjing Road welcome shoppers, and people move between meetings, meals, and errands. By late afternoon, the light softens along the Bund, couples take photos, and friends meet for coffee or tea. At night, the skyline lights up, restaurants stay open late, and the sound of conversations mixes with traffic and music. Staying in Shanghai feels lively but manageable, with everyday scenes that make the city feel real and easy to enjoy.

Getting to and Around Shanghai

Shanghai is a big city, but getting in and moving around is easier than you might think. There are two main airports: Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG) and Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport (SHA). Pudong handles most international flights, while Hongqiao is popular for domestic routes and is closer to the city center.

From the airport, you can ride a taxi, take the Metro, use airport shuttle buses, or book a hotel transfer. The Maglev Train from Pudong Airport is also a unique and fast option, getting you into the city in just around 8 minutes.

Once you’re in Shanghai, the Metro is the easiest way to get around. It’s clean, cheap, and covers most attractions. Taxis are also widely available, and many hotels offer private car services. Some areas, like the Bund, Xintiandi, and French Concession, are great for walking.

Tips for Booking Shanghai Hotels

Book Early for Peak Travel Seasons

Shanghai is a top travel and business destination. Hotels can get fully booked during Chinese New Year, Golden Week, and summer holidays. Popular spots like the Bund, Pudong, and Nanjing Road are the first to sell out. Booking early gives you better rates and more room choices.

Check for Major Events

When Shanghai hosts large trade shows, expos, or concerts, hotel prices in business hubs like Pudong and Jing’an can go up fast. If you're traveling for fun, booking ahead helps you avoid high last-minute rates and gives you a better chance at staying close to attractions or metro stations.

Look Out for Online Deals

Sites like Trip.com often have discounts, cashback, or member-only rates. First-time users may get extra perks. These deals can help you save money that you can use for street food, museum tickets, or shopping at places like Nanjing Road or Tianzifang.

Pick the Right Area for Your Trip

Shanghai is big, but different areas suit different traveler needs. You can often save by choosing a spot that fits your trip style:

  • French Concession – Great for a relaxed vibe, local cafés, and boutique stays.
  • Hongqiao – Budget-friendly hotels with easy airport and train station access.
  • People’s Square / Nanjing Road – Central location, perfect for sightseeing, shopping, and first-time visitors.
  • Yangpu or Putuo – More local, less touristy, often cheaper but still connected by metro.

FFajrina HMWe had a pleasant stay at Moyu Movie Hotel and truly enjoyed our experience. The staff were really helpful and attentive, especially when it came to helping us order Halal food using the ******* app. All we needed to do was transfer the payment via Alipay, and they kindly helped arrange the rest for us. Our food was even delivered by a delivery robot, which was a fun and convenient experience. On one occasion, we were unable to transfer payment via Alipay, and the staff were so kind and understanding to accept cash payment instead, which we truly appreciated. We also got free drinks from them. The hotel also provides free laundry washer and dryer, making it very convenient for longer stays. They accept packages on behalf of guests, and the parcel handling was very well organized, with items sorted by phone number, making collection easy and hassle-free. The location is another big plus. The hotel is within walking distance (around 5 minutes) to Middle Huaihai Road Metro Station (Line 13), which made it very convenient for wandering around and exploring Shanghai. Overall, it was a comfortable and hassle-free stay, and we would definitely consider staying here again.

GGuest UserExcellent reception desk assistants, translating through phone app. English / Chinese Coffee /tea even massage chairs in reception. Room: Fantastic Beds were huge & comfortable - we had an upgrade to a larger room. The shower and shower toiletries were so refreshing. Towels were lovely soft & clean. Breakfast was the best I have had for a long time. Lived the rice, fried eggs, noodles , fruit vegetables. Even clams one morning. Great variety of drinks. The chief and staff were very happy & helpful. Extremely clean. I used the laundry room which also had a tumble dryer. This was useful due to travelling on to Beijing afterwards. The other family rooms have slides and are duplex. Sue the swimming pool is great in the summer. Excellent price , excellent choice for Families going to Disneyland and other local trips. Loved being able to go along the local street to see Shanghai local food, shops and life. Seems to be a family run business which is lovely to support. Location is great for the local shops , food, 7/11 supermarket for snacks & drinks Restaurants and food for locals which was delicious and a great price. Shuttle bus excellent. Taxi ( Didi) was £3 back from Disneyland . £11 to Shanghai Greenhouse Gardens ( evening ticket £5.40) this is an amazing trip not to be missed.

Llulu333100% recommend!!! I always stay in this hotel whenever I come to Shanghai! It's in a great area of the city and right across the road from Changshu Lu subway station (which has two subway lines on). The hotel has many rooms and is spread out on the 18th, 19th, and 20th floors of the building. Which means that there are incredible views of the city! I recommend paying a little extra and getting the room with a window, just for the view! The rooms are very clean with amazing bedding and pillows. You also have a personal TV, aircon, toiletries pack, bottle of water and slippers etc. There are water filter machines on each floor and usually free tea on the lobby floor. The staff are there 24 hours at the front desk, so you can check in anytime. The bathrooms are always really clean, and the cleaning ladies are always in out, making sure everything is nice. Bonus: The famous SYSTEM night club is also in the same building (around 3rd floor). So you can party and then go up to your room on the 19th floor!

GGuest UserWe have been traveling across China with 2 families for 5+ days (in this hotel 5 days). What I would like to admit is how the service is good (like the reception people are literally so friendly and welcoming, they always greeted us, helped us all the time and did everything they could) and the breakfast is amazing! (So many international people, multiculturalism). About the hotel: it was amazing too. The rooms are very cozy, nice, warm (they have a/c). The view was especially good, we had a nice view at the calm life of Shanghai and palm trees lol. The beds are comfy, warm. They do laundry by themselves, have free fruits from 15:00-16:00, foot massage. The reception helps with anything, I asked them for a latte coffee and pair of chopsticks at 3 am (they found it). The location is nice too, there is a subway station nearby (I had rode rent bikes every morning to subway). Overall, the hotel is very nice, with the best service from staff.

MM361034****This hotel is the absolute pinnacle, I can't even put it into words. Everything, from the facilities to the service, was a top-tier experience! They even gave us a special little gift on Christmas Eve, and the custom design on the room key card was exactly what I had hoped for – I'll cherish it forever! The food was nutritious, healthy, and delicious, and the drinks menu offered both Western and Chinese options. Celebrating Christmas here, I took so many amazing photos. This whole experience was precisely what I had envisioned for Shanghai! Every single staff member had a smile on their face and made eye contact. The foreign female manager at the Italian restaurant, in her red suit, was so chic and beautiful, and on top of that, her Chinese was incredibly fluent and authentic! When she started speaking, I actually questioned my own nationality!

HHunter Jackson TonyMy partner and I recently stayed at the Novotel Shanghai Pudong Chuansha, opting for a Superior King Room from December 21st to 23rd for our trip to Shanghai. The overall experience far exceeded our expectations. Based on my ratings and actual feelings, I'd like to share a detailed review of our stay: **Hygiene: 5/5 - Exceeded Expectations** I'm giving full marks for hygiene; I truly couldn't find a single flaw. Upon entering the room, I was immediately impressed by its cleanliness. The bedding was perfectly made, without a single wrinkle or odd smell, and the pillowcases and duvet covers felt like clean cotton. The glass partition in the bathroom and the vanity mirror were spotless. There were no water stains or residue on the toilet or in the shower area, and even the crevices of the vanity were dust-free. The daily housekeeping service was also excellent. Staff promptly replaced used towels, replenished bottled water and toiletries, and even neatly arranged our skincare products and cups that we had left out. The attention to detail really made us feel comfortable. **Environment: 4.5/5 - Satisfactory** I'm giving the environment 4.5 points; the overall experience was great, with only a minor flaw. The hotel's location is a big advantage; it's not far from Chuansha Metro Station, making it convenient for trips to Disneyland or downtown. There are also plenty of restaurants and convenience stores nearby, so daily shopping and dining were never an issue. The hotel's internal environment is also excellent. The lobby is modern and grand, with stylish lighting and soft furnishings. The greenery in the public areas is well-maintained, and there's a subtle, pleasant fragrance in the air. The soundproofing in the guest rooms is also good; with the windows closed, you can barely hear any traffic noise, ensuring a peaceful night's sleep. The 0.5 deduction is due to occasional slight noise from vehicles entering and exiting the hotel's underground parking, but this was very minor and almost negligible. **Service: 4.5/5 - Satisfactory** The service experience is equally commendable, and the 4.5 rating is well-deserved. From check-in, the front desk staff were exceptionally friendly, with warm smiles, and handled the process quickly. They also proactively asked about our needs and patiently explained the breakfast times, and the locations of the gym and laundry room. During our stay, I accidentally lost my room card. After contacting the front desk, new cards were promptly delivered by staff, who remained completely patient throughout. When I called room service for a hairdryer in the evening, it arrived at our door within minutes. The only minor regret is that during peak breakfast hours, the restaurant staff were a bit overwhelmed, and the speed of clearing dishes was a little slow. Otherwise, I would have given full marks for this as well. **Facilities: 4.5/5 - Satisfactory** The hotel's facilities are also excellent, receiving a 4.5 rating due to one small detail that could be improved. Our Superior King Room was very spacious, with furniture arranged well to avoid feeling cramped. The king-size bed had a mattress that was just the right firmness, making for a very comfortable sleep. The room's facilities were all very modern; the large smart TV could connect for screen mirroring, the air conditioning heated up quickly, and the thermostatic shower in the bathroom had a smooth water flow and stable hot water supply. The hotel's public facilities are also comprehensive; the gym has a wide range of equipment that is well-maintained, and the washing machines and dryers in the laundry room are easy to operate, with laundry detergent also provided. The slight drawback is that the desk chair in the room felt a bit hard after sitting for a long time. If a cushion were provided, it would be more comfortable, which is why I deducted 0.5 points. Overall, the Novotel Shanghai Pudong Chuansha is a hotel that offers both excellent value for money and a great experience. It's suitable for both couples traveling and business trips. I was very satisfied with this stay and would highly likely choose this hotel again next time I'm in the Chuansha area of Shanghai.

AAnonymous UserThanks to the front desk for upgrading us to the Grand Suite! This old building has a story to tell, with exquisite and tasteful decor that's very well maintained, making you feel like you're in an ancient European hotel suite. On the service side, the Chinese restaurant tastes good, but breakfast is too simple. Besides vegetable salad, fruit, and bread, there's just a noodle station and a few à la carte items from a menu. The quality of the breakfast definitely doesn't match the room rate, especially considering it was during the New Year's Day holiday. There were few staff members, but they were still enthusiastic. It's clear that the hotel management has declined significantly compared to over ten years ago; everything seems to be about cutting costs. For instance, in the suite, tissue paper is only available in the bathroom, not on the living room table. You barely see any housekeeping staff in the corridors, and I won't even mention many other small details. Service is the soul of a five-star hotel, and at some point, it seems to have shifted from providing a 'home away from home' experience to a simple landlord-tenant relationship. Perhaps this is the current reality for five-star hotels in China.

AAnonymous UserGreat location right in the city center! We were here to get our US visas, and it's less than a 10-minute walk to the consulate. The transportation is super convenient. Subway Line 13 is right across the street, and Line 2 is just a short walk away, which takes you directly to Hongqiao Airport and Railway Station. There's a whole street of eateries downstairs, so finding food is a breeze. The room is very spacious, and it comes with a full kitchen, appliances, and a washing machine. For such a prime location in Shanghai's city center, it offers incredible value for money. Highly recommended!

CCindyYe12This time, my bestie and I traveled with our families, and this three-story townhouse we chose was exceptionally stylish and beautifully decorated, feeling incredibly cozy. We had separate floors, ensuring privacy, which is rare for a trip – I actually slept really well! There's also a small terrace upstairs, perfect for my husband who enjoys a cigarette. Who says you can't have it all? Here, you can experience the leisurely nightlife, the bustling Shanghai, and the charm of old alley neighbors all at once. Step outside and you're right by Nanchang Road and the Science Hall, with Huaihai Middle Road just a block away.
