The REF Matsuyama City Station Hotel by VESSEL Hotels boasts an exceptionally prime location, right in the very heart of Matsuyama City, Ehime Prefecture. It's conveniently situated right next to Takashimaya department store and the city's iconic Ferris wheel 🎡, offering super easy access to both Matsuyama Castle and Shimonada Station.
The room itself was quite spacious. This was my first time in Japan encountering a design where the washbasin was cleverly positioned outside the main bathroom area, which genuinely made the bathroom feel more expansive. The room also came equipped with a small table and two chairs, which was incredibly convenient.
The breakfast was a particular highlight! There was a wide variety of delicious options, and everything tasted great. The sea bream sashimi, in particular, was incredibly fresh and succulent 😋. Among the five types of orange juice available, the 'Wenzhou Orange' was the sweetest – I highly recommend anyone visiting to try it! 🥳
I had a wonderful stay at this hotel. The room was exceptionally clean and offered a great view. It was also very quiet, which made it easy for me to relax and get some work done. Overall, a comfortable and peaceful environment, perfect for both rest and productivity. Highly recommended!
This is my second time staying at this hotel and am extremely pleased to be a returning customer. I finished a big tour of Shikoku by bike in the last 13 days with a friend now just returned to the same hotel for a couple of relaxing days before heading back home.
This hotel is at the heart of the Dogo district with great amenities, very friendly staff and top quality services. I’d like to thank two of the hotel staff, Medo Shuhei and Jay whom have been very helpful to assist our stay during our trip. I have no hesitation to recommend this hotel to my friends and would be more than happy to stay in the same hotel next time visiting Matsuyama.
Nice location. It's just like an ordinary Japanese hot spring hotel, the highlight is the hot spring pool on the top floor, where you can look up at the stars at night. The dinner was average (felt like a group meal). As other reviews suggested, if you don't have a meal package, you can go to the hot spring street to eat and you might have a better experience.
The location is excellent, as it's right next to the Dogo Onsen Main Building.
I was traveling alone, but the single room was larger and more comfortable than I expected, and it even had a massage chair that helped me relieve the fatigue of my travels.
The hot springs were great, and the breakfast had a wide variety of dishes and was delicious.
The all-you-can-drink mandarin juice was a nice touch.
I was very satisfied with the hotel in every way.
The hotel is about a 500-meter walk from Matsuyama Station. Dining options nearby are somewhat limited, but there's a convenience store right across the street. Rooms on higher floors offer views of Matsuyama Castle, and it's also conveniently close to the tram line. It's an older hotel, yet the rooms are quite spacious. It reminds me of a 4-star hotel in China from about 20 years ago.
Came here for some business. The hotel is very good in the local area. The breakfast is rich and the scenery is also very good. The price is much more cost-effective than Tokyo and Osaka. It is an authentic Japanese niche place. I will come here for a trip next time.
The overall environment was great. However, there’s one thing I’m extremely dissatisfied with—the walls! The wall between my room and the next is incredibly thin, and it even shakes. I have no idea what kind of ******* is staying next door, but around 12:30 a.m., they suddenly started banging on the wall multiple times. My bed is right up against that wall, and it shook violently three or four times, waking me up in shock. After that, about every hour, they kept hitting the wall again, making it shake like it was during an earthquake. I honestly never expected a hotel room at ANA to have walls of such poor quality! Even now, thinking back to that night still frightens me.
If you're traveling to Matsuyama, I highly recommend the Candeo Hotel.
It's right next to the Okaido shopping arcade and less than 100 meters from the free airport shuttle bus stop, making it incredibly convenient.
The onsen on the 13th floor is small, but it includes an open-air bath and sauna. I used it twice daily, and it was free. The breakfast buffet was clean and delicious.
The tram stop is right in front, so you can catch a cabanas anywhere.

GGuest UserThe place to go to try Japanese fine dining, kaiseki. I was grateful for the kaiseki throughout my stay, and the hot springs were clean and nice. Room conditions will vary depending on the price, but overall it seemed like an old facility, but it felt like a really neat model of traditional Japanese lodging. The location is reasonably quiet and close to Dogo Onsen Station.
