My family and I recently enjoyed a stay at Angsana Teluk Bahang and found it to be the perfect choice for a relaxing staycation. Located on the quieter side of Penang, the resort is about 40–50 minutes from George Town, which may feel a little far from the city centre, but that's exactly what makes it special.
If you're looking to escape the traffic, crowds, and bustle of town, Angsana offers a peaceful beachfront retreat with plenty of space to unwind. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, with beautiful sea views, and the beach is not crowded at all.
The infinity pool overlooking the sea was a favourite spot for our family, especially in the evenings when the sunset painted the sky over the Straits of Malacca.
The staff were consistently friendly and attentive, helping to make the stay smooth and enjoyable from check-in to departure.
Although the resort feels secluded, it's still only a short drive from Batu Ferringhi if you want to explore local food, night markets, or nearby attractions. For us, however, the best part was simply slowing down and enjoying the calm surroundings.
Overall, Angsana Teluk Bahang is an excellent option for families seeking a relaxing beachfront staycation. While it is some distance from the city, the peaceful atmosphere, beautiful sea views, and resort facilities make it well worth the trip, will definitely come again!
Facilities: The facilities and equipment are quite old-fashioned, like the door handles, faucets, and switches, but they all work perfectly and have a great sense of history.
Cleanliness: The hygiene was excellent. Housekeeping even came in the mornings to offer fresh towels and drinking water.
Environment: The environment is beyond words. I think it's the best and quietest area in George Town, right by the sea. The sunrises and sunsets were incredibly relaxing.
Service: As soon as the taxi pulled up to the hotel, a doorman was there to greet us, help with luggage, and check us in. The front desk staff spoke multiple languages, making check-in very smooth. Our luggage was quickly brought to our room by a doorman. The F&B staff were all very warm and attentive.
This time, I stayed in the Deluxe Heritage Wing Suite, which was incredibly comfortable. Highly recommend!
The hotel's location is excellent, and it's very clean. The rooftop pool is spotless, and the large windows in the rooms offer a great view. The breakfast is abundant, and the service is excellent. Definitely recommend staying here. I'll choose this hotel again when I visit Penang.
Located in the heart of Penang, a bit far from the Old Town, but the living environment and surrounding amenities are excellent. The living conditions are much better than in the Old Town, and the area is very vibrant.
Environment: The hotel isn't very big, but it's small and exquisite, with direct beach access. There are three pools, two large and one small, with the smallest being a 0.5-meter kiddie pool, which is quite tiny. I booked a deluxe sea view room, but apparently, all rooms of this type have a side sea view. I'm not sure what makes it 'deluxe' – I really disliked it 👎. If a direct sea view is important to you, don't book this hotel.
Service: Everything else was pretty good, except for the Indian front desk lady at the Chinese restaurant.
Beware: If there's a private event, it will take over the best public areas of the hotel. Honestly, the thing I disliked most throughout my stay was that the 'sea view room' didn't have a proper sea view at all.
Layout is nice and comfortable. The kids love it. I like the drawers provided under the beds. Initially I was worried about lack of a cabinet for clothes. Water dispenser is very well used by us. Plenty of power sockets near the bed.
Swimming pool had a great view. Chlorine taste was crazy strong though. Kids thought the water was salty.
Biggest gripe is that this place is too popular. 4 lifts serving the 30+ levels of patrons are not sufficient. During peak periods like meal, arrival or checkout timings, we waited more than 15mins to get into the lift.
Overall very pleasant stay.
The room size was decent, and even though I was on the 19th floor, it was surprisingly quiet – a huge plus for a light sleeper like me. Getting to Georgetown by taxi was also very quick. It's a great spot for families, as they provide amenities like kids' toothbrushes and slippers. The toothbrushes were really soft, and the slippers were comfortable.
We always stay in this hotel or the next one every time we visit Penang. As usual, beautiful and nice and clean room. We got a cake for our anniversary. Breakfast is good and not crowded like the other hotel. Best location next to 2 shopping malls. We went for seafood buffet in the other sister hotel and at senior citizen price. Fantastic offer.
Will definitely be back. We requested for late checkout because don't want to go too early to airport. They gave us 2 more hours which was fantastic.
The breakfast offers local specialties. While the selection isn't huge, the food is delicious, with both buffet and à la carte options. The bathroom is sealed off and the door is quite heavy, so you need to push or pull it firmly to open and close it. The room itself is very comfortable, with a street view, and it's surprisingly quiet. It's also within walking distance to the Clan Jetties and the street art area.
Our stay in Penang exceeded our expectations. The hotel's location is incredibly convenient, right next to Gurney Drive, perfect for an evening stroll by the sea. Finding food nearby was absolutely no problem. We booked a sea-view room, and waking up to the ocean view in the morning was a pleasant surprise. Sitting by the window chatting in the evening was also very atmospheric.
The room wasn't overly luxurious, but it was clean and tidy, the bed was comfortable, and the soundproofing was decent – we weren't disturbed by hallway noise. The staff were very friendly and proactive in helping with any issues. Breakfast offered a good variety; the taste was standard, filling but not particularly outstanding.
If I had to point out any downsides, some of the facilities show their age, lacking the pristine details of a newer hotel, and elevator waits can be a bit long during peak hours. However, considering the location, room view, and overall price, we felt it was definitely worth it. If we come back to Penang, we'd very likely consider staying here again. It made for a relaxing and enjoyable couple's trip.

GGuest UserAbsolutely the best! From check-in to check-out, the service was truly exceptional. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful with everything. During breakfast, there was a huge variety of delicious food – so much that I didn't know what to choose! The cleanliness was top-notch. There are plenty of great places nearby, and it's easy to find food. The 8th floor has a playground with lots of games for kids, so they won't get bored. Will definitely repeat again.

YyuleimorrisPros: Although the decor is a bit dated, the overall service and facilities are still up to par. The rooms in RaSa Wing are generally spacious, with a separate walk-in closet, and a large living room. The TV on the desk can be pulled out and rotated. There are also daily welcome snacks (dried fruits). For breakfast, you can choose the mainstream buffet at Garden Wing, or for a more unique experience, order à la carte at the RaSa restaurant on the second floor – their Hokkien Mee and Curry Mee are very authentic! The overall service level is also on point; you can take a shuttle from the concierge at the entrance to Golden Sands' swimming pool, and the staff are very friendly and greet you warmly. The overall facilities and service meet Shangri-La standards.
Cons:
1. The parent-child facilities are not extensive enough, not as good as many domestic hotels: Basically, only the pool is available for play. Even at Golden Sands' water park, there's only one small slide, and there's always a queue, so it's not particularly impressive. There is a kids' club, but it requires an extra fee (though not expensive). Other parent-child activities are limited and not available daily, and it feels like we didn't receive schedule notifications on the RaSa Wing side. The parent-child experience is a minus.
2. The Concierge informed me that RaSa Wing guests could order free soft drinks at the pool bar (including Golden Sands), but when I actually went to Golden Sands, I was told that RaSa Wing guests couldn't enjoy this benefit there.
3. The food options provided during Happy Hour are more Western-oriented, with very few Chinese dishes, and the taste is mediocre. It's fine to try it once on the first day, but don't have high expectations.
4. The beach has been eroded, which is a major drawback for a beachfront hotel to not have a beach.
Suggestions: You can walk to Batu Ferringhi beach; taking a taxi might get stuck in traffic. I don't recommend the durian stall at the RaSa Wing hotel entrance; instead, go to the durian stall at the Golden Sands entrance (only available at night), the quality is much better!
GGuest UserI arrived at the hotel an hour early, and even though check-in was officially at 3 PM, I was able to get into my room smoothly at 1 PM. The front desk staff were incredibly thoughtful and efficient – definitely a thumbs up! Overall, my stay was great. Just a small suggestion: there were some long hairs left on the bath towels in the room, so I hope housekeeping can pay more attention to detail cleaning in the future. I'll still choose to stay here again. I also tried the massage service at the hotel, which was pretty good.
GGuest UserExceeded expectations! Very good location linked to Gurney Plaza and lots of food options along the streets. Room was spacious, clean and comfortable. Basic amenities are provided including bedroom slippers, toothbrush, cotton pad, etc. Buffet breakfast has good variety. Would be returning to this property the next time I’m in Penang.
SSyafiqa yusufHotel sgt cantik ya ada vibe2 bali. Byk tempat ootd & byk facilities best2. Bilik bersih & luas. Buka tingkap mmpk view kolam. Breakfast buffet byk pilihan & sedap👍🏻. Last but not least, staf mostly ramah & very welcoming. Boleh repeat.
GGuest UserI didn't pay close enough attention to the details when I booked, but for two of us traveling, the Stuart Suite was absolutely massive, spread over two floors, with an atrium and a plunge pool. It could easily sleep a family of four, making it fantastic value for money. The hotel has a charming, antique feel with a lot of character. The front desk staff were very welcoming, and the breakfast was quite unique. I'd highly recommend it to anyone looking to experience a Nanyang-style stay!
GGuest UserStayed for one night. We originally booked a Deluxe King room via trip apps but were upgraded to an Executive Deluxe King room.
The hotel has a nice indoor saltwater swimming pool located in the center of the 2nd floor. Unfortunately, the steam room/sauna was broken during our stay.
Our room was clean, spacious, and equipped with a cool air conditioner, a bathtub, and a separate shower. It also came with a free minibar, though the lighting was a little dim. Breakfast was standard and cost around RM50 per person (not included in the room rate).
Location is excellent—situated near many Michelin Gourmand restaurants and only about 500 meters from KOMTAR.
The service was excellent.
Highly recommended for couples and families!”
