We had a great stay at Balgownie. Staff were always friendly and helpful. Room was beautiful and spacious. We enjoyed the food and definitely recommend eating dinner here and wine tasting during your stay.

The hotel is a bit old, but its location is a big plus – super convenient for shopping! The bed was comfy and soft, and the in-room facilities were well-equipped. No one offered to help with luggage, and the hotel has two entrances, but the staff didn't tell me which one was easier for catching a ride. When I came back by taxi, they didn't open the door for me, but when my friends dropped me off, they were very enthusiastic, opened the car door, and greeted us!

The location is decent, with plenty of restaurants nearby. However, the hygiene is a major concern. There was hair in several spots, and used disposable items like shower caps weren't replenished. When we switched rooms, the front desk told us the new room was ready and they'd move our luggage for us. But when we returned in the evening, our luggage was nowhere to be found. We eventually tracked it down ourselves in the luggage storage area.
Nice modern hotel
Disappointed with the customer service
The checkin experience was robotic, unfriendly and did not show any interest, care or effort to deliver a welcome.
The hotel itself is very nice, quality finishes and large rooms.
The property has a dedicated service elevator however the housemaids use the guest elevator for transit between floors without any smile, hello or care towards guests. It's also obvious the damage to guest elevator from cleaning carts.
Great views,
It's a shame this beautiful property is let down by poor customer service and poor management oversight.
The hotel staff were welcoming and ready to help. The hotel ammenities and location itself were perfect, from the pool there was a magnificent view of the sunset overlooking the city buildings. The charging ports in the room were practically placed, the beds were comfy, and the bathroom was modernly designed and spacious. The overall atmosphere of the hotel was calm, inviting, clean and modern, making its shared spaces comfortable to relax. Its convenient location allowed access to ”The District” on Docklands with a range of restaurants and shops alongside public transport. We really enjoyed our stay and definitely would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a comfortable, modern and enjoyable stay in Melbourne.

For my 21-day trip to Australia, I stayed in 11 hotels across Sydney, Melbourne, and Adelaide. Here's my ranking of the best to worst experiences (with value for money considered):
1. Capella Sydney (low value for money)
2. Park Hyatt Melbourne (high value for money)
3. InterContinental Melbourne The Rialto (medium value for money)
4. Crown Towers Melbourne (high value for money)
5. Le Méridien Melbourne (medium value for money)
6. Hilton Adelaide (medium value for money)
7. The Langham Melbourne (low value for money)
8. Citadines on Bourke Melbourne (best value for money)
9. Meriton Suites Waterloo, Sydney (high value for money)
10. Best Western Plus Travel Inn Hotel Melbourne (low value for money)
11. The Hotel Windsor Melbourne (worst value for money)
Now, let's talk about the InterContinental Melbourne The Rialto. Like The Windsor, it's a heritage hotel, and its beauty is undeniable. It truly looks like a 19th-century Neo-Gothic Venetian castle! Located in the heart of Collins Street, it's one of InterContinental's most luxurious heritage hotels worldwide. When you stay here, you can't help but spend time exploring, as both the exterior and interior decor are magnificent, and the room facilities are top-notch. It's definitely worth a stay.

The ultimate luxury experience in Melbourne! The lobby on a high floor is grand and spacious, while the guest rooms are incredibly comfortable, with luxurious bedding and bathroom amenities. The infinity pool on the 64th floor feels like it's suspended in the clouds, offering stunning city views while you swim. The service is professional and attentive, with incredible attention to detail. The dining and lounge options are top-notch. It's a peaceful oasis in a bustling location, with convenient access to everything. Truly a Ritz-Carlton level experience. I'll definitely stay here again on my next trip to Melbourne.

The hotel is quite large with many rooms. Its location is good, about a 5-minute walk to the tram's free zone, and there's a convenience store right opposite, which is very handy. Standard check-in is at 3 PM, but you can pay for early check-in.

The location is excellent, within walking distance to the Royal Arcade, State Library, Flinders Street Station, and the Royal Botanic Gardens. Plus, tours pick up just 500 meters from the hotel, which is super convenient. The Hilton's interior is exquisite. We got a great deal during the off-peak season, though the price was a bit higher during our stay due to Melbourne's carnival and racing events. Some toiletries aren't provided, but you can always ask the front desk. Daily housekeeping was spotless.

SShivvyWe had a great stay at Balgownie. Staff were always friendly and helpful. Room was beautiful and spacious. We enjoyed the food and definitely recommend eating dinner here and wine tasting during your stay.
LlymaWe had multiple issues with our 7 nights stay. Which some has been addressed and fixed immediately. One thing we do recommend to confirm check upon arrival or when booking.
Lack of view - we’ve booked the 1 bedroom premium room. From the pictures it looked like floor to ceiling big windows with open view but we were assigned to a room situated in the heritage floors (2nd) which the windows are 1.5m high so have to tippy toes to see the view. Limited sunlight also, bathroom has no window.
Issues we encountered
1) hall way light - wasn’t working on the first night when we checked in at 11pm. We couldn’t even find our room number cause it was so dark, we used the torch on our phone. Wasn’t a nice first impression if you are scared of dark hallways. The sensor was fixed the next day.
2) phone wasn’t working - so we couldn’t contact the front desk. We got in late with a toddler, so we put on ‘do not disturb’ sign but someone banged the door at 8am, to reach us to ‘fix the issues’. Not sure why can’t they just slip us a note under the door.
3) so many flies - the breakfast restaurant have serious pest issues. There were more than 10 flies flying around the buffet and the tables. We didn’t feel comfortable eating there after one visit. The whole duration of the meal, we were waiving off the fly. Major hygiene concern!
4) housekeeping was very average, barely cleaned the room daily. Only made the bed.
5) overall the staff were all friendly, special appreciation to the male staff at the breakfast room. The lady duty manager didn’t seem friendly, carries an attitude and likes to talk over you.
Location is great, round the corner from the tram line.
Will I stay again, most likely not. Feels more like a 4 star hotel, definitely not 5 star.
GGuest UserDear Hotel Management Team,
I am writing to express my extreme disappointment with my recent stay at the Pullman Melbourne on the Park, and I wish to lodge a formal complaint.
During my stay, I encountered the following issues:
1. **Inadequate Room Preparation**
* The mini-bar in my room was completely empty.
* I had booked a twin room, but was provided with a king room, which did not match my reservation.
2. **Unprofessional and Unhelpful Service from Front Desk Staff Member Chris**
* When I reported that the QR code for in-room dining was not working, she merely suggested I go to the bar to order, without attempting to resolve the QR code issue or offering an alternative. Upon going to the bar, I was informed that food service only began after 12 PM, and it was approximately 9 AM at the time. This meant I was unable to obtain any food or beverage service.
* When I reported that the TV in my room was not working, she simply responded with ”ok.” She did not inform me that maintenance would be arranged, nor did she provide any timeframe. Consequently, a maintenance person entered or knocked on my door without prior notification while I was showering, which made me feel very uncomfortable and disturbed.
The aforementioned issues severely impacted my stay and fell far short of my basic expectations for your hotel brand.
I look forward to your response.
XXieyinghuaI'm not entirely sure, but it definitely felt like a five-star hotel. The facilities have a classic charm, and the decor creates a wonderful ambiance. All the amenities, including the bed and sofa, are of good quality, and the room itself is very spacious. They also provide better complimentary in-room items than most hotels, such as cookies and beverages. However, perhaps because it's a traditional, century-old luxury hotel, the bathroom has an older-style design without a floor drain. This means you need to be careful when showering or using water, as it can easily lead to puddles on the floor. Additionally, there's a large, well-maintained lawn right outside the back door of the room. It looks especially beautiful in the morning and truly reinforces that traditional luxury hotel feel. The staff's overall service quality is excellent, though it's a bit of a shame there isn't a 24-hour front desk. I also found it quite challenging to reach the hotel online; emails went unanswered, and calling the official website number didn't connect me with anyone. Ultimately, I had to use the specific phone number they provided at the door during check-in.
YYuxiaojieThe breakfast was very rich, especially the vegetables, which were fresh and delicious. The staff were all very kind and friendly, and actively helped me with my difficulties. Even when I couldn't speak much English, they still tried their best to understand the situation. The room type was also very good, solving the awkwardness of a family of three ordering food.

Very Good
GGuest UserUpon first checking in, I found the hotel to be quite ordinary. However, after staying for a few days, I realized how convenient and comfortable it truly was. The hotel breakfast was also delicious! A special shout-out goes to a Chinese waitress in the restaurant who was incredibly polite and provided exceptional service – absolutely 10/10! Unfortunately, she was off on my check-out day, so I didn't get a chance to say goodbye.
EemdubsWe stayed at the self contained villa, and it’s perfect for our family get together. Good access to golf course, nice children playground and good indoor swimming pool. However, the cleanliness of some of the areas in the bedroom can be better. Also, they don’t provide cleaning service daily like in the hotel. Overall, a pleasant stay anyway.
