I arrived at 9 AM and was immediately checked in. After a good sleep, I headed out to explore. No deposit was required, which was a nice touch. The staff were all smiles and made me feel right at home. Next time I'm in Kota Kinabalu, I'll definitely choose this place again. The privacy is excellent, and the capsule rooms are great. It's also conveniently located near the Central Market and Gaya Street, making it easy to get around.

I booked Margo hotel for groomsmen, bridesmaids and friends. It was perfect for solo travelers and a simple stay. Location is great and the rooms are exactly what you want; a soft clean bed, a bathroom, and safe lock. The only problem was the service, the front desk is closed until 9am so checking in early after an early flight is impossible. Checking out can be confusing too. Without anyone around to help out you will need to be clever and worldly to get what you need. So this place is ideal for solo travelers and simple trips.

My trip to Kota Kinabalu was unplanned and I bought my tickets only two days before flying. With such a last minute plan, I decided not to spend much on accommodation. I looked through a few hostel options online and this one stood out mainly because of its central location, so I went ahead and booked it. The hostel is very easy to locate. Just follow the signs and you will find it without any issue. It is on the first floor, which means you only need to go one level up from the ground. When I arrived, the staff were friendly and check in was fast. The same can be said about check out. Everything was simple. The bed was okay and quite standard for hostel stays. My bed was comfortable enough, had a window and came with a charging port which made things convenient. The bathroom was also fine. I only wish guests, especially ladies, would throw their hair into the dustbin instead of leaving it on the wall. It would make the bathroom nicer for everyone. All in all, it was a reasonable stay and matched what I expected for the price. Everything was generally good and okay.

What I love about this hotel: (1) Spacious room (2) Iron and iron board provided in the room (3) Complimentary tooth brush (4) Sofa in the room (5) Clean and bright (6) Walking distance to restaurants and supermarket (more shops across the road) What I am not happy about: (1) Loud noise from the bar/pub from the adjacent building My personal rating: 8/10 for comfort

Stayed here for a short trip. The location is excellent.. right opposite Centre Point Sabah and within walking distance to many eateries like Welcome Seafood. The room is basic and a bit old, but clean and comfortable enough for the price. Staff were very friendly and check-in was smooth. Perfect for budget travelers who want to be in the city center

When I first saw the reviews, I genuinely was so worried.. but upon arrival, it wasn't as bad. Parking was a bit hard to find around the area since it was a jokey parking.. a lot of shops, massage parlours & restaurants around. Located in the middle of Centre Point, Imago & Suria Sabah so we went to all three places LOL Cleanliness wise, the toilet is pretty decent, had a few bugs around though. On the first night, we had no problems with baby cockroaches but on day 2 & day 3, there were like 3 baby cockroaches roaming around 💔 Bed had stains on them, room was small & they have no refrigerators in case you need a place for cold stuff. Uhh all in all, I'd say it was a 6/10. Cheap & affordable but comes with downsides

I stayed on the 7th floor in room 71X facing the main road. The room was generally fine, but being next to the main road means you can clearly hear traffic noise throughout the day and night. Another issue was that every time I turned on the water heater for a shower, there was a noticeable smell coming from the bathroom. I’m not sure what the smell was, but it was quite obvious whenever the hot water was running. Overall, the stay was okay.

GGuest UserVery clean, wide corridor, lovely mattress, the view is breathtaking and the supermarket downstairs is handy. Not too great as Nest Cafe doesn’t serve alcohol, perhaps to get alcohol license and surprisingly the supermarket downstairs doesn’t sell even beer! What a disaster!! We enjoyed our one night stay there though. Please maintain the cleanliness as it is now. We will be back!

QQaaa AmrrThe journey to the hotel took a very long time because it's quite far. The road leading to the hotel wasn't great, but once we arrived, the view was absolutely stunning. Mount Kinabalu was clearly visible; we could see it distinctly in both the afternoon and morning. The bed was a bit noisy, it creaked a little when moved, and there were other faint noises, but we just ignored them. Breakfast was decent. Their fried banana fritters were delicious and crispy – perfect for an early morning breakfast. I chose this hotel specifically for the view, and it certainly didn't disappoint.

GGuest UserIt’s similar to hotels/guesthouses in China, and much simpler than domestic budget hotel chains such as Home Inns or GreenTree Inn. Hotels in Sabah generally feel two stars lower than those in China. The one I stayed in in Kota Kinabalu is owned by Marriott The Le Méridien hotel is also comparable to domestic All Seasons hotels, so don’t expect too much. The sanitation is quite clean, and there are often people chanting sutras with loud speakers in the morning and evening... overall it's not bad. It is two kilometers away from the pier and takes a taxi for 6-8RM. You can go to the seafood market to bargain for dragon knives, which is quite fun!

HHernandoI loved this hotel; I thought it was the best in the area. The food is good. It's very close to the orangutan activities and the Rainforest Discovery Center. August is the most popular time of year, so all the private cabins were already booked. Only the 6-bed shared rooms were left, but I still decided to stay here because the hotel is so beautiful. In the end, there were only 3 of us in the room. The walk to the room is on an elevated dock, full of trees and flowers. You pass by all the chalets, and it's very pleasant. You feel like you're in the middle of the jungle at all times. The only detail I didn't like is that the pool is very dirty, full of floating moss.

ZZuralengThe room is okay for a small family. However, it’s not very suitable for those who are sensitive to noise because the room is not really soundproof — you can even hear the person next door showering 😂. But overall, the room is still okay and comfortable for our stay.

CCLLowI stayed in the fan dorm room at Sepilok Jungle Resort, and it was a great experience for anyone used to Malaysia’s climate. The dorm was clean, simple, and well-kept — exactly what you need after a long day exploring. Shared bathrooms were tidy and maintained regularly. The whole resort feels calm and peaceful, with beautiful ponds and lush greenery everywhere you walk. Location-wise, it’s perfect. Just a short stroll to the Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre and Sun Bear Conservation Centre, which made the stay even more convenient. If you’re okay with fan rooms and enjoy being close to nature, this dorm is a great, budget-friendly choice. Comfortable, quiet, and surrounded by real jungle vibes. Highly recommended! 🌴✨

AAnonymous UserNice place.. February is very cold month in Kundasang. I love the vibes of this property. Room are moderate. I think they should change the blanket and pillow 😂😂 The bankets are unsuitable for cold season. Washroom is quite small and water pressure is very low. But you'll find your peace staying here✌️✌️

AAnonymous UserThe hotel was very clean and smelled nice.. Only the staff's attitude was bad. Please improve your reception, the hotel is great, but with staff like that, the business won't go anywhere. I called earlier, and the staff told me the room was on the 2nd floor, but when I arrived, it was on the 3rd floor. I have asthma, and having to climb stairs to the 3rd floor felt like a complete lie. When I asked, the staff answered rudely. At that time, it was a male staff member on duty!

TTriptheuniverseSemporna is an interesting place to visit, with several islands surrounded by coral reefs for snorkeling and diving, more beautiful than many other snorkeling spots worldwide. Staying at this hostel instead of moving to an island resort is a good way to budget. And not only that, the fish market in Semporna is the most incredible one I have seen, seafood like lobsters, large shrimps, crabs so fresh, not even the one at Kota Kinabalu can be compared good as it was too. The DZ hostel lady staff was very helpful and can arrange for island trips at a reasonable price. The dorms are separated into boys and girls, something I truly appreciate. The bathrooms faced the afternoon sun, so they were dried easily and kept clean. Laundry by machine was offered free, a super plus for swimmers. The hostel also offered local Malay snack food for breakfast, and coffee or tea were always available. To be honest, it's a good budget place to stay while splurging on the island tours. It's a bit sad that no cooking is allowed here, even though there was a kitchen. Sad because the seafood mentioned above was so available. The facade of the building is nothing to boast about, and like many places, the external (streets, pavement, eyc) can be a mess. That should not deter visiting this part of the world mainly because the sea in this area is astoundingly replenished with marine life.
