As a solo traveller I was surprised it is actually a love hotel which I did not pay attention when booking. It does not matter though. Very good condition and big space. Good breakfast included. It is also very nice having a massage chair. It is over 1km from train station which is slightly inconvenient from people with large luggage.   I did see a 1cm long bug on my pillow on the second day but I would think it is accidental considering the general cleanness is significantly better than most other hotels I stayed.

This is my second time staying at Sotetsu, and the facilities are very professional and well-integrated. The room was spotlessly clean, and I made sure to keep it that way. The hotel is conveniently located near Shijo Station, with a convenience store right next door. There's also Sanita Seimen nearby, and their tsukemen (dipping noodles) are absolutely delicious! The service was very professional, and the breakfast spread was fantastic.

Good location. Hotel right opposite the Toji station. There are convenience store nearby and Toji temple was 10mins short walk away! Friendly & helpful staff ~ Comfortable room & good ameneties. Shaver, comb, rubber band, & night wear can be taken as needed before heading to the room on the first floor ! There are even curler & straightener for rent. During tea break timing or dinner timing, small snacks are available as well. Room is cosy size. Able to watch Live TV channels and Netflix etc. Only feedback would be that the toothbrush can be pacakage seperately from the toothpaste. Each toothpaste is good for max 2 use, but since we stayed more than 2 days, we keep opening new set for the toothpaste. Feel is a bit wasteful..😭 Otherwise, everything is great and will definitely stay here again!

Decided to visit Kyoto with my parents last minute, and the price for this hotel was quite good for a last-minute booking. It's very close to Kyoto Station, just a 5-minute walk. Plus, it's near the airport limousine bus stop, which was super convenient for our departure; we took the bus directly to Osaka Itami Airport and arrived in just 50 minutes. Check-in was done via a machine, which was very easy – just grab your room key and breakfast vouchers. The staff were also on hand to offer assistance. The room size was decent, not cramped for three people, and it was clean and tidy. The breakfast had a great variety, and my parents were very happy with it. We'd definitely stay here again.

The room is big and it has all the amenities eg. TV, Big bed, jacuzzi, well equipped toilet, etc. All the toiletries are beyond our needs. Movies are free and breakfast are really cheap. The only drawback is the nearest metro station is 1 km away. But the room is value for money. Highly recommended.

The hotel offers luggage storage, which is convenient for dropping off bags before check-in. You just need to pick them up by the end of the day after check-out. They even let me bring my folding bike into the room, even though they initially suggested parking it outside. The biggest highlight is the complimentary drinks and water available in the lobby – both hot and cold. I only had the iced yogurt drink and hot onion soup, as I don't drink coffee. There's also a microwave in the lobby, which I imagine is well-used since the hotel's location is a bit out of the way, making dining and shopping less convenient. The room itself has a safe, fridge, and TV. The bathroom provides bath towels, and toothbrushes and combs are available for self-service in the lobby. (You can see photos of the self-service drink machine in other guest reviews). The room is small but charming. The first floor has very high ceilings, with another level above, but the ladder has been removed so I couldn't see what was up there. The bedside table was very clean, but the desk was a bit dirty (perhaps just faded from age), and I spent a long time cleaning it. For a while at night, there was a strange sound in the room, like running water, but no one was using water in the middle of the night. It went on for quite a while, which slightly affected my sleep. Perhaps because it's the off-season, I got a much better deal than usual this time, significantly boosting the value for money. I hope I can find such a great price again if I have the chance to revisit next year.

The room with tatami mats has a traditional Japanese taste! It's a pity that the soundproofing is not very good, so I can only use the air tones to talk to my friends. You can hear the sound of talking next door and even the alarm very clearly😂

This hotel offers incredible value for money! I saw some reviews mentioning no windows, but I found that if you pull back the curtain behind the bed, there's a window that allows for ventilation! The location is excellent, with a bus stop right downstairs and the subway not far. It's very close to Sanjusangen-do Temple and convenient for visiting Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine! The hotel is also connected to a 7-Eleven, making it super easy to grab anything you need. In the common areas, there's hot water and a microwave available, and a simple breakfast is provided in the mornings. There were a lot of foreign guests, and the front desk staff spoke good English, giving it a vibe similar to the youth hostels I've stayed at in Europe. I went on a weekday and paid less than 200 for a single room. I didn't have high expectations, but I was pleasantly surprised – the decor and details are adorable! Highly recommend! I'd definitely come back if I have the chance!

This is the biggest Toyoko Inn outlet I have ever been to, with a big dining area and 3-person room which is spacious and comfortable. However, having to change room in a two-night stay was inconvenient and customer-unfriendly (it was because I requested for smoking room on Day 1 and non-smoking room on Day 2 - this was simply because I didn't have a choice at the time of booking as they are always full); I tried asking to stay in the same room but was told all rooms are full. I totally understand it's a very popular outlet and fees are reasonable; however, some quick fixing to give the customers convenient they deserver wouldn't harm/take much efforts.

DDr.p3pp3rI stayed here in a double room and overall had a pretty good experience. The room was clean and comfortable, and both the air conditioning and heater worked very well. One thing that really stood out was the bathroom — the bathtub was much larger than what you usually get in Japan. I’m a tall person, and I could actually sit down and lie back comfortably, which is rare. Most hotel baths feel very small, but this one felt closer to around 1.4m in length, which made having a bath genuinely enjoyable. The bed was comfortable, and housekeeping did a great job — the bed was made every day with fresh sheets. Wi-Fi was also very fast, which was a big plus. Amenities were decent, and you can pick up extra items if you need them. Check-in is a bit late at 3pm, which I didn’t love, but that’s balanced out by an 11am checkout. Having that extra time in the morning made it feel worth it overall. I did have a couple of negatives. The strangest one was finding an old sock behind the TV when I arrived. It was very obvious and not hidden, so I’m not sure how it was missed during cleaning. It was a bit gross, but I just left it. Another downside was the mini fridge — it’s more like a cooler than a real fridge. It keeps drinks from getting warm, but they don’t get properly cold. In summer, this really wouldn’t be good enough. Replacing it with a proper mini fridge would be a big upgrade. The other major issue was the lift. It is painfully slow, and there’s only one lift for the upper floors. On checkout day, I left my room about 10 minutes before checkout time, and I almost didn’t make it downstairs in time because of how slow it was. That part was honestly pretty ridiculous. Location-wise, this hotel is excellent. It’s very easy to get to from Kyoto Station — just head south and you’re there in about 4–5 minutes. It’s also very convenient when leaving Kyoto by train. A tip for using the subway: instead of going back to Kyoto Station, walk right from the hotel to Shijō Station. It’s on the same subway line, you’ll get on before Kyoto Station, and the train is empty — so you’re almost guaranteed a seat and can ride comfortably to your destinations. For food and shopping, there’s a shopping mall just across the road toward the station with a Don Quijote, McDonald’s, and other options. The hotel is also right next to a Coco Ichibanya curry house, which is fantastic and open late. Overall, despite a few odd issues, this was a solid stay with a great location, good comfort, and very easy access to transport. I’d happily consider staying here again.

GGuest UserAlthough it was short, I loved my stay here. Had great quality of sleep. Good base for Kyoto, near enough to key locations, but expect a lot of walking unless you use the bus. Nearest station is Kyoto Kawaramachi which is great for day drips just outside central Kyoto and if you are coming from Osaka or Kansai airport - see my tips below. Pros: great bathroom and toiletries, good water pressure and temperature, smart toilet, TV with streaming services, fridge, desk/stool, coat hooks (handy for winter time), semi-full length mirror, luggage rack, various lights to adjust to your preference, very clean, super comfortable firm mattress and pillows, good soundproofing for light sleepers, great air conditioning (room warms up pretty quickly in the winter), you can also open the windows which is nice, felt very safe as a solo female, can ask for more water bottles in reception, lift was never crowded, outlets next to bed, has luggage storage if you need, near the river and traditional streets for scenic strolls, close to bus stop, family mart otw from station for late night snacks. Cons: can hear police cars or cars with loud engines at night sometimes but not frequent, walking from the station with a suitcase was a bit longer than expected, my double room was a bit cramped for opening suitcase (could not open the front or bathroom doors fully to avoid hitting my suitcase) and I am one person (two suitcases would fit but you wouldn't be able to walk around the bed properly). Tips: If you are coming from Kansai airport (KIX), I recommend you take the airport limousine to Namba (bought a return ticket since it is cheaper). It drops you outside JR Namba station, you can go inside to get to the metro station, follow signs for the red Midosuji Line. Board the train to Umeda. Stay inside the station and follow signs for Osaka-Umeda or the brown Hankyu-Kyoto line. This line goes directly to Kyoto Kawaramachi station. When stations, always look for the lift signs if you have luggages. I think I took the lift closest to Exit 4, and it brings you up to a department store. You kinda have to walk through and get out. If you walk out the front entrance, there are a few steps, but if you go to the side doors, it has a slope to avoid carrying suitcases. It's a straight walk from the station. Unless you are doing day trips, Kyoto city buses are a lot better mode of transport in my opinion.

GGuest UserThis hotel offers incredible value for money! It's super convenient, just a 5-minute walk from Kyoto JR Station. The streets on both sides of the hotel are lined with small restaurants and pubs, and there's a medium-sized drug store (Don Quijote) at the corner. The room was clean and tidy, and we could see Kyoto Tower right from our window. I especially recommend the hotel's shampoo – it's really good! 😊 The room was spacious enough for two adults and two 28-inch suitcases, with plenty of room to spare. There are USB charging ports by the bed. There's no kettle in the room, so you'll need to bring your own and an adapter. The breakfast on the first floor is a set meal, costing around 60 RMB per person. Highly recommended!

AAnnzhang2026Conveniently located right at the tram stop. The hotel doesn't offer breakfast, but there are several breakfast spots right next door. I tried one with noodles, and the portion was surprisingly generous! Even though it's a shared bathroom and shower setup, you need to use your own room card to access them, which felt very secure. The elevators also require a card swipe, and there's a dedicated floor just for women, adding to the safety. I'd definitely consider staying at more hotels with shared facilities like this in the future. Excellent value for money!

JJulianto Chuen+ this hotel 01 station only from Kyoto Station, using metro and stop at Koji Station , and then walking about 15minutes to the hotel + The easy way to reach this hotel is using bus, and stop at Kujo Omiya. Many bus have direct route to Gion, and other tourist spot (about 30 minutes riding). Please take a notes, this hotel is not in tourist area, very quiet and you will meet with many local people here. + this hotel have a concierge and standby staff, so you can keep the luggage before checkin. + this hotel is very new, i think maybe open early 2026, when we proceed for the check in, the hotel staff gave us some welcoming gift, and we can saw many flowers buoquet there. And the good news, yes they have an elevator, so no issue for thise who bring big luggage + Room very clean and tidy. We book for 03 persons, and they prepare room with 04 twin beds (separate 02 rooms). Inside room have bathtub, laundry, kitchen + equipment, and 01 dining table. + I think maybe this is the best hotel we stay at Japan. Very modern, all brand new, many USB port inside the room, wifi connection is strong, really quiet and really convenient for stay + around 05 minutes walking, you will find japanese ramen noodle resto, and also local mini market. - a little bit troublesome for communicate with the hotel staff, because when we want to make sure about Yamato Delivery Service to this hotel, it was so hard to reach to hotel staff throung phone / email. When we asking to the hotel staff about this, they said they not receiving any chat from the trip.com / ******* platform. I dont know where is the issue, maybe because this hotel very new or they are not ready yet for the online communication Please take a notes that you have to pay kyoto city tax. We stay for 02 night, and we pay JPY 1.600 total Overall it was a nice stay, and definitely really recomend this hotel for stay at Kyoto.

NNur NajmiNice small hotel, they give you umbrella and asked you to keep in your room throughout your stay and only give them back before check out. We came in September so its either scorching hot or raining. It wasn't raining when we were there but hotttt. So the umbrellas are our savior. They have luggage storage, so we left our luggage on our arrival (check in at 3 or 4pm) so we roamed around and came back later at night. At 12MN they will close the door and you need to use the password (they'll let you know beforehand obviously). We came back around 10 or 11pm and all our lugagges were already in our designated room, so convenient. The room is not so small neither very spacious. Just nice for us both, we took turn to open our lugagge. And we didn't shop much in Kyoto. Our iron unfortunately broke when we arrived in Japan. So day 1 in Kyoto we didn't managed to get the iron since another guest already using it (we checked in at night) but the next day the staff kindly went to the other guest room and take iron after they finished using it and sent to our room. We were so grateful. We went to the Kyoto Kawaramachi Station by cab. Since we didn't download the GOtaxi App nor Didi before arriving in Japan, we cannot register the app since they required phone number to send confirmation (we used esim) so we just waived the cab by the road and took about 5-10min to get one. We planned to transport our luggage to Osaka on the same day from Kyoto but we missed the time. You need to send the luggages to the designated (not all Yamato centers offer same day delivery service) Yamato Transport Service Center before 10am for the same day delivery service. We arrived around 10:40am so we got into another cab to the station and bring all of our lugagges with us on the Shinkasen.

GGuest UserThe location was fantastic. Super close to Kyoto Station and opposite Aeon shopping mall. The showers were hot and the hair dryers were good. My only complaint would be about the kitchen. There was no fridge to store food and only a microwave. No plates or utensils either. Also the lounge area was only available for guests at breakfast and in the afternoon till evening - not during the middle of the day. Kyoto is a beautiful city and I recommend the Kyoto Trail for those who like to walk and travel in an authentic way. The Trail winds around many of the shrines and tourist areas as well as the beautiful hills surrounding Kyoto.

AAnonymous UserThe room was bigger than typical Japanese hotels; we could open two suitcases simultaneously. There was also a small dining table with chairs and a vanity. The front desk service was excellent, and they offered free coffee on the first floor. It's a bit of a walk from Sannomiya Station, but you pass by Yakiniku Like, so it's perfect to grab a meal after landing and then head to the hotel. You can even see the street view from the window, and I think Ikuta Shrine is right next door?
