the hotel was amazing for a 3star hotel, very good service from the reception, offered free drinks, free umami soup & allowed to keep our luggage until evening the next day (5/5)
room was good for the price ($72 sgd), but the interior might look a little old, & slightly dirty but was reasonable
location was ok, close to the shopping street but a little far from the station/subway for heavy luggages (4/5)
miku & I enjoyed the stay! ありがとうございます!
This hotel is at a very convenient location in Takamatsu. Walking distance to JR station and Castle Park, the airport bus is also just across the street. This breakfast of this hotel is optional but its of goof quality with both Japanese and Western Option. Will recommend
The hotel is basic, chosen based on price (there were no decent options left in Takamatsu on Friday).
It's easy to get there by car - there's a large parking lot and a shopping mall nearby.
Transportation is a bit of a hassle - the only bus runs every two hours on a circular route from the station, so be aware of that.
To get to Matsuyama, we had to walk 2 km to the highway - there's an intercity bus there (you have to look for the stop, and it's best to book a seat in advance, otherwise you can't guarantee a seat - we were lucky).
The rooms are tiny, but have everything you need (kettle, refrigerator, hairdryer, air conditioning).
The bathroom is spacious by Japanese standards, but the room is a bit cramped.
The hotel is surrounded by nothing (only a shopping mall and a stadium), and is located in a village.
Breakfast (buffet) is average (rice/sausages/omelette/curry). Juice - mango/carrot.
Yogurt, pineapple, waffles.
You can fill up if you want...
The twin room was spacious enough, as was the bathroom, and the beds were wonderfully wide—a rare find! The high-floor room offered great views. I would definitely stay here again on my next visit to Takamatsu. Note: There are no USB charging ports.
The location is very convenient, right next to a shopping street, and close to the recommended parking lot. The room size is decent, with a small living area. However, the cleaning wasn't very thorough. We stayed for two nights, and after the second day's cleaning, there were still a lot of hairs on the floor. Breakfast is until 9:30 AM, with last orders at 9:00 AM. But when we went down at 8:40 AM, there was almost nothing left, and they weren't refilling anything. While this might be to avoid waste, as a customer, the experience was quite poor.
Hotel staff at reception desk is super helpful and very patient to assist customer.
Room is super clean and breakfast is nice.
We stayed this hotel for 4 nights for a golf trip. During our stay, there were a couple issues we have with car rental companies. Staff was very kind to help in local languange conversation with call center and local police individuals to effectively get thing done. I cannot image how long it will take for us to communicate with non-Japanese lauguage... Good job Route Inn hotel.
Hotels in Shikoku, Japan, were cutting back on electricity due to the Fukushima disaster and had no air conditioning. When I arrived at this hotel, I asked the front desk if they offered any services like skinning and peeling. The novel *Red Sorghum* mentions this in the Gaomi County Gazetteer during the Anti-Japanese War.
If it's cold, you can add layers, but what about the heat? The room was over 30 degrees Celsius! A burly waiter privately complained to me. We ended up borrowing an electric fan to solve the problem.
Humorously, to combat the heat, the owner solemnly announced: everyone can get a free popsicle at the front desk every day.
The hotel rooms weren't large, but their only advantage was that they had windows, and they were so close to the station that you could practically touch the hotel building's wall as soon as you exited. There was also free breakfast and a 1760 yen buffet, which was excellent value. Borrowing bicycles was also a great experience. A few hundred meters north of Utatsu North Exit, there's an AEON, a secondhand shop selling various daily necessities, and a seafood shop to the east… all very interesting and charming experiences. Of course, here, you need a firm ”revolutionary will” to crush the poison of the decadent capitalist lifestyle.
Along the Seto Inland Sea coast, both Shikoku and Chugoku offer stunning views reminiscent of the Thousand Islands, especially the pure blue sea and sky merging seamlessly, a breathtaking sight in autumn. If Monet had been born in the Seto Inland Sea, he wouldn't have left behind ”Water Lilies,” but rather the magnificent and gentle blue sea for Impressionism!
However, the UV radiation is extremely strong, so women need a three-pronged approach: sunscreen, sun-protective clothing, and a sun umbrella! With prices soaring in Japan recently, I'm posting a few photos for comparison. It's easy to look good in clothes, but looking good in person is difficult—perhaps this is just gilding the lily.
Toyoko inn has always been a reliable stay for me. When you don’t want to do a love hotel or hostel but for whatever reason don’t find it sensible to book something more luxurious you can find a brand hotel like Toyoko at a reasonable price. Those who stay regularly know the perks (free face wash haha) - but this one in particular has a very nice view of the sunset over the bay. It’s also right across the street from the train station. Solid.
Upon returning to Takamatsu from the islands, I booked this hotel and opted for a smoking single room this time. Its location is excellent, very close to Takamatsu Port and shopping districts. The room, though compact, was perfectly equipped with everything I needed. In the evening, I enjoyed a relaxing soak in the bathtub.
Kotosankaku is located about a 5-minute walk from Kotohira Station and is very easy to find. The map shows that the post office is on the right, but it is actually blocked by buildings. There is a long straight road from the station. There is a souvenir shop in the basement of the hotel. It is a bit historical, but very comfortable and spacious. There are many cultural relics in the corridor for viewing, like a museum.
The room I stayed in was a Japanese-style room at the Zanshuikan (with an open-air bath), which can accommodate up to 4 people and only includes breakfast for 2 people. The room was generally large, with barely enough space for 4 beds. The whole room was very clean, and there were many breakfast options, but not all of them were delicious. The dinner set was average, a bit disappointing.
Very Good

DDaily happyDuring my recent trip to Japan, I had the pleasure of staying at a hotel that also serves as a wedding venue — and from the moment I arrived, the level of service was simply impeccable. The staff were not only gracious and professional, but also went out of their way to assist me at every turn, despite my lack of Japanese language skills. Their warm hospitality left a lasting impression and made me feel truly welcomed and cared for.
Though the room was compact, it was exceptionally clean and thoughtfully arranged. As a solo traveler, I found the space more than sufficient — cozy, comfortable, and a fantastic value for the price. It truly struck the perfect balance between affordability and quality.
A special mention goes to the amenities: the hotel provides a well-stocked amenity station at the reception, where guests can freely pick up whatever they need — a detail that reflects the hotel’s attention to guest convenience.
While the location is a little removed from the city center, this wasn’t an issue at all for me, as I had a rental car. The added bonus? Free parking on-site, which made my stay even more convenient and budget-friendly.
Overall, this hotel exceeded my expectations in so many ways. With its blend of elegant ambiance, exceptional service, and thoughtful touches, it became a peaceful and comfortable base for my journey — one I would gladly return to and wholeheartedly recommend to fellow travelers.

DDaochuzoudeshuThe hotel is probably the largest in Guanyinji City, but it is old, the bedding can be seen to have been used for a long time, and the air conditioning exhaust fan is very loud. But the transportation is convenient and the location is eye-catching.
TtorinessThis little guesthouse is simple but so well priced and met all our needs - mostly its close proximity (15 minutes walk) to both Honnura port area and the start of the Benesse house art zone, the main locations for the absolutely amazing art installations on Naoshima. Room was well sized, clean, secure and warm. The host was very friendly - he even gave us a lift into the Benesse area to give us a great head start on our day, and securely stored our luggage for the day. I would definitely stay here again. For those coming to Naoshima I would recommend staying 2 nights so you are not rushing your time on this beautiful serene island and make sure you book various galleries well in advance, they sell out even in off season!!
DDG_88Stayed here for one night on our second visit to Naoshima in almost 10 years.
The lodge is quite close to the main port, but it’s up on a hill — so if you’re travelling with heavy luggage, the walk up can be a bit of a workout. That said, there’s a luggage delivery service about a 5-minute walk from the port. We paid around ¥2,800 for two large suitcases (pickup and return), which made things much easier. Bike rental was about ¥1,500 per day.
The lodge itself is clean and fairly spacious. Being on top of the hill gives you a really nice view over the island and out to the ocean. AC worked well, everything was straightforward, and nothing really went wrong.
Simple, comfortable stay. Would consider staying again.
IiamzouzouI stayed in this hotel 7 years ago. I stayed there again this time. The facilities and environment are very good. Although the hotel has a sense of age, it is still well maintained. The tatami rooms used to be changed to Japanese and Western styles. The tableware for the hot spring dinner was changed to disposable lunch boxes. The tempura was cold. I guess it was to save labor costs! This is a bit regrettable!
It feels great to enjoy the sunset and soak in the hot spring!

GGuest UserEverything was as expected and the room was a comfortable size for solo travel, even allowing to open a suitcase properly which is sometimes very difficult in average Japan hotels with limited space! The location was amazing just a five mins stroll to the main train station, where you can do shopping conveniently, and also the ferry port for island hopping during the Setouchi Art Triennial. I was asked to stay in the 2nd building for the hotel which didn’t create any issues, just a small block away, the hotel/staff were very helpful in allowing to store the luggage even before and after check in for a full day!
