It got me thinking I may as well have gone for a more expensive hotel for the overall cost. In spite of this, Nijmegen is a place very close to my heart and this hotel is very well located with comfortable rooms (although a little chilly as the air con is without a warming function - being a winter visit). As a frequent visitor of hotels, at least once every 6 to 8 weeks, this hotel will meet your needs and I do like the catering for business such as a desk in each room as well as the fridge and kettle provisions. The unadvertised charge of 54% extra (out of pocket) being the main gripe, which is in no relation to City Tax or Service Charge which is ok. This overall would otherwise be a reasonably 'ok' stay.

Business travel accommodation, good value for money, clean, good environment, very quiet, you can sleep beautifully, the bed is OK, breakfast has not been tried, no evaluation.

Stayed 1 night on a Leger Holidays tour. Before arrival our guide phoned ahead to book our group of 26 people into the restaurant for dinner. We were told this would be fine and there would also be porterage for our luggage. Plus as we had an early start in the morning a take away breakfast would be supplied and we would be given a list to select our choices. However on arrival the receptionist knew nothing of the conversation stating that her colleague had gone home and no one knew anything about the prior arrangement. So no porterage and no take away breakfast list. The issue of porterage was quite a problem as there was a fair number of elderly people in our group and some of the rooms had no lift access. (In fairness the receptionist did carry one elderly gentleman's case to his room) Our group was told to go to the Restaurant at 6-30pm for dinner which we did only to be told we weren't dining in the restaurant but in the bar area. We had no proper menu to look at and on complaining we were given a hastily prepared sheet of paper with limited choice and no prices. Once again we complained about this and another sheet of paper appeared with prices. We noticed that we were being charged the same price for our limited choice menu as the Ala Carte menu so why couldn't we be given the Ala Carte menu in the first place and sit in the proper restaurant? By now it was 8pm and a couple of our group had given up on the idea of eating and had gone to bed. The service we received was also third rate. Soup arriving after the main course and no spoon to eat it with, table water was requested which arrived but nobody thought about giving us glasses to drink it, food arriving luke warm/cold. Another 2 members of our group gave up with dinner and decided to eat bar food at the bar. They ordered their food together and one arrived an hour after the first. When we finally managed to track down a duty manager and brought all the above to her attention she was unsympathetic and quite obnoxious in the manner she responded to an elderly person who raised the difficulties the hotel were obviously having in catering for a group. You would think a hotel would welcome a group of 26 into their restaurant with open arms and provide a better service. The chaotic feel also extended into the rooms. Although they were of a fair size they were a little dated. The bathroom had a very deep bathtub that was quite hazardous to get in and out of even for a tall person like myself and there was no safety grab rails. There was a kettle in the room but no English breakfast tea and paper cups. (The kind of thing you would expect in a budget hotel) In fairness the take away breakfast was good and so large it also sufficed for lunch as well. Sadly any plus points were outweighed by the appalling treatment our group received the previous evening.

Let me start off by saying: if you are looking for a nice area for walking and cycling, this hotel may be worth it. The surrounding woods are quite nice. Other than that, don't expect much. As others have already mentioned, it's not a typical hotel but more of an outdated holiday resort. It's not even close to being worth 4 stars. There are two rooms per building, using the same main entrance, and you have to pay extra if you want the ground level room - which is apparently also the only one with a kettle and coffee machine. The stairs to the first-floor hotel room are quite steep and not accessible to everyone. The vibe it gave was 'sleeping over in your 70-year-old uncle/grandpa's attic'. The rooms are very old-fashioned, with no clock, an old radio you can't plug in because of the lack of outlets, and a bit of a musty smell. The 'two-person bed' is just two single beds pushed together, so if you want to be intimate with your partner or just sleep close together you will most definitely end up in the gap in between. The beds don't sleep great, either. There is no airconditioning so it gets quite hot in the summer with no way of cooling down, and the wifi is not too stable. There is also some mould in the shower, as well as rust, and the window in the bathroom does not open. The toilet sometimes refused to flush properly. Breakfast was standard, don't expect any vegan options except for bread and peanut butter. You are allowed to take some stuff for lunch, though, which is nice. There is no fridge in your room however, so keeping things cool is not an option. Also bring your own cutlery, plate & cup if you plan on buying breakfast/lunch at a local supermarket, because the room only comes with two plastic-lined paper cups. There is only one vegetarian main course on the restaurant menu, but the chef was very kind and made the vegetarian lunch options dinner-sized for us. Vegan would definitely be impossible, though. The restaurant and pool are also not that easily accessible for people in a wheelchair or with a walking impairment. Definitely get some sort of voucher or discount deal, otherwise the prices are way too high for what you get. You're not allowed to order food from Thuisbezorgd etc. The pool is... well, it's not much. It's small but barely anyone goes for a swim there, so chances are you will have it all to yourself. Bring something like a diving game or a ball if you want to have anything fun to do. The showers don't really work and half of them only have cold water. There is a tennis court but it will cost about 12 euros per hour to use it, and the 'sports fields' that are on the map they give you have become overgrown and cannot be used. You're not allowed to park your bike next to/close to your building but there is an old shed-like building in which you can store your bike. This was our first driving tour to The Netherlands from the Uk. We selected this hotel based on it being in a convenient location for visiting the Arnhem and Oosterbeek Operation Market Garden historic places of interest. The hotel was clean and comfortable and the staff were very friendly and welcoming. Our room was bigger than expected and was very quiet even though the hotel was very busy. The selection of fresh food available at the buffet breakfast was excellent and the lunch and evening meals were good quality at reasonable prices. Overall the standard of accommodation and quality of food and service exceeded our expectations for the price paid. We would certainly recommend this hotel and will also look at other hotels in the Van der Valk chain based on our experience at the Arnhem hotel.

High-end hotel. The room is large and the facilities are new and the living is very comfortable. The front desk is very good. Because there are various activities in the hotel from time to time, there are more people coming and going. I don't know why the room suddenly broadcast loudly in the early morning of the middle of the night, we can't understand it, broadcast three times. Parking for in-house guests is free.

Room condition is satisfactory. Breakfast is satisfactory.

Not bad, I went to the concert. There is a mountain over there, and if you are in a town, you have to do a bus to go below. Nijmegen is a small city in the five-line area. I feel everyone knows it. The hotel is also good, there are smoking areas outside the window, it is quite good.

We had a lovely holiday staying at this hotel with Shearings. The staff were excellent, nothing was too much trouble. The room was lovely, looking out on to the pond at the back of the hotel. We had two evening meals which were very nice and the breakfast was help yourself. I would recommend this hotel to anyone.

Nice hotel, located just 10' outside of Nijmegen. We stayed there for 1 night while enjoying a concert in Nijmegen. It's nice to stay a bit outside of the busy city. Prices were more than half of the prices in Nijmegen. So don't expect the same quality or experience. Room was clean and all you need for 1 night. Breakfast was served in buffet style and was plenty for us. Located close to the German border it also offers some amazing walking close to the river 'Waal.

This hotel is completely understaffed. It's ran by one front desk person who's never there, and a guy who's not in hotel uniform at night who plays poker with his rowdy friends in the lobby who doesn't want to help with anything. The AC does not work unless the outside temperature is above 18'C (for ”eco” reasons which is just a trick to save money of course). Meanwhile inside it's 25'C and you can not cool the room. There's no water bottles in the room. If you want to buy water, there's a vending machine, but you can't pay with bills or card. You need to pay with coins. If you ask the front desk for coins, he doesn't have coins of course. The cleaners did not clean for 2 days when we stayed for 4 days. So half the time there was no cleaning. Even when we explicitly asked the cleaners and front desk for cleaning and put the door sign up to clean. The gym has no weights, dumb bells, barbell. Just treadmill, bicycle, rowing machine. That would be okay, but it's not even cleaned once during our stay. It looks like this hotel chain is ran with the minimum staff and costs possible to maximize profits. But it's not a great experience. The building is functional and renovated and good though.

Lovely hotel. Great location right next to the train station, 4 mins on the train into the centre of Nijmegen with trains every 30 mins. Helpful and friendly staff. Free car parking, easy to get a space in the multi storey car park attached to the hotel. The breakfast buffet was incredible! Crepe/ omelette live cooking, extensive hot and cold buffets and even Prosecco if you fancied it.

The rooms are really nice and comfortable and everyone is incredibly nice and welcoming. They also do a great job at being eco-friendly. They do not do a great job with dinner / drink service and the food was only average. Definitely would not eat dinner at the restaurant. And things like getting water, ice, or even a coffee was not easy during the day. Could all be a lot better. And they charge for parking in an area that really shouldn't.

This hotel was a major letdown for me. Considering the price, I had at least expected a clean room. Although it had a nice-looking, old-fashioned style, my room was unfortunately filthy. To be honest, it was truly disgusting. I discovered a dozen human hairs on the bed sheets, the bathroom was stained from the previous guest, and the toilet had traces of feces(!!). Adding to my disappointment, the reception was closed when I arrived around 9:30 pm, so I had to call a phone number to gain entry (they only answered after my second call). I found my key card at the front desk, with nobody available to address my concerns about the dirty room. It felt like I had no choice but to reluctantly accept it and sleep in already-used bed sheets. Absolutely revolting! I will never stay here again!

As others have said the hotel entrance was fine, the lift wouldn’t pass uk health and safety and the walls move, and the walls are scabby. The room was small. Being British I wouldn’t normally complain, but this was below what I was expecting, even for a budget hotel. See the photos. They were full so couldn’t move, and I was told I was in one of the bigger single rooms. Thank goodness for the internet that I could escape into Netflix, although there wasn’t many place to put the computer as there was a chair and a sink (see photo). The water didn’t drain quickly in the shower, which in the eve I g went from cold to scalding. Not much positive I can add I’m afraid. The staff were ok, although I didn’t really put them to the test. I ate out as, after seeing the rooms, was not inspired to stay there. I thought it was less expensive as it’s not central- I was wrong, it’s not central but totally uninspiring.

The hotel in the forest, the hotel with the most beautiful surrounding environment I have ever stayed in; the inside of the hotel is also very warm and comfortable! Every time I drive my partner to Holland we look for a Van der Valk hotel whatever our destination because we know exactly what to expect .. High standard quality of service , amenities , food, interior design .. and above all friendly and competent staff .. Hotel van der Valk Apeldoorn is no exception...Nice pool , very large and comfortable design room , very comfortable box spring bed, pet friendly hotel , a nice park nearby to walk your dog , and above all the famous van der Valk breakfast ... Smoked Salmon , muffins, various kinds of bread , croissants, cheeses , marmalades , waffeln with cherries marmalade , cold cutts.... and of course scrambled eggs with bacon or omelette ...

Bilderberg Hotel De Keizerskroon is a wonderful newly renovated hotel with alot of history. Very professional,friendly,accomodating staff and the restaurant is definitely one you should not miss. The hotel is right next to the palace ”Het Loo” and close to many other attractions in Apeldoorn and other nearby villages. They also have a nice size heated pool.Definitely a place I would recommend.

The sports theme is everywhere in this hotel and it's great to see, a nice change from all the anonymous hotels out there. The room was comfortable and well equipped. Breakfast was fantastic and I would strongly recommend it if you're staying here, though there is a bit of a walk from the rooms to the restaurant. Parking very close to the hotel entrance outside was free, with plenty of space. The hotel appears to be in a calm and beautiful area. Unfortunately, the booked rooms did not match what we received when we arrived. Even though a suite was included in the booking - and pre-paid for - we only received normal twin rooms. Upon raising this with the front desk and asking for a partial refund they promised to get back to me via e-mail, which they never did. I raised the issue with the booking agent who also contacted the property, but they refused to refund the partial cost. I'm afraid this cast a shadow on an otherwise pleasant stay and I'm upset that the hotel was not be willing to compensate for their mistake, even just the cost difference.

We came here for an offsite event but this is a location I’d happily bring my family. Beautifully appointed and maintained. We had dinner and paired wines - also really nice. Breakfast had options at the level of an average European 5 star hotel incl. champagne (or some other sparkling wine - I didn’t manage to check unfortunately as it was a full working day ahead). Business Lunch was a lot of food but really well prepared. Bedrooms had drinks, snacks and the bathroom was really nicely done. I stayed in the annexe building but did not have the complaints some of the others had …quite the contrary! My only complaint was that the air conditioner stopped working middle of the night - still don’t know if it was a setting or just a machine that needs repair! All in all, a great experience and a much better bet than staying in Arnhem city.
