This is my 2nd stay at this hotel. Location is superb with easy access to subway station, Nanjing Rd walking street, restaurants, shopping malls, to the Bund & more. We stayed at the family room with breakfast for 3 adults and it was spacious enough for 3. Breakfast spread is very good from western to local - yummy! Our room includes the access to the executive lounge which was very nice - had afternoon and even drinks and snacks there. We enjoyed the gym very much, it was a properly equipped one with a super cute and friendly cat that comes in every now and then to say hello. The best gym mascot every :-)

I’ve lived and traveled around China for 6 years and have been to Shanghai countless times trying many different types and levels of hotels. The Fairmont Peace Hotel is by the far the best I’ve ever experienced in Shanghai thus far. The service at check in was fantastic and friendly and so accommodating. The lady spoke perfect English which helped me a lot and went so far as to walk us to our room and explain some key points. All staff are wonderful and smiling and so willing to help. The room was clean and quiet and had all the modern finishings to make life easy while blended into a beautiful and traditional style. The Jazz Band is a must see and the small museum is lovely. The Phoenix Restaurant produced some delicious food. Overall I cannot stop singing the praises of this hotel. Also location is fantastic for tourists. Right on the Bund and close to subway stations and taxi pickup points if needed.

Very nice hotel: staff are quite friendly and helpful. Facilities are not brand new considering the overall age of the hotel but well maintained. The living environment is decent and comfortable. You can tell the hotel is recognized but local and international travelers. Cost-effectiveness is high considering the conditions & location. Will come again!

We celebrated a birthday in Pudong and picked Shangri-La as an impromptu destination. It was a Perfect location for leisure and nice dining. The staff was also kind enough to offer a complimentary birthday drink and fruit. The room had a Nice open view balanced between the city and the river. The Cozy bedding was good, too. The final visit to the jazz bar was really nice. The bar had THE VIEW, and the staff were very friendly. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. We enjoyed the stay. We Will definitely come back next time.

We had an amazing stay at this hotel, thanks especially to Jackie at the front desk. Although we arrived early, she kindly checked us in and let us know our room would be ready in about 1.5 hours. She offered to store our luggage free of charge so we could explore comfortably, and when we returned, she even surprised us with a gift bag full of drinks—such thoughtful service! The location is unbeatable: right across from Nanjing West Pedestrian Street, directly connected to New World shopping centre, and just a short walk to People’s Square and the metro. The Bund is also within walking distance—about 30 minutes if you’re up for a stroll. There are so many food options around. Our room was clean, spacious, and located on a high floor just as we requested. Facilities were excellent, and every staff member we interacted with was warm and helpful. We’d absolutely stay here again on our next visit to Shanghai!

Elena was very good, and nice. The location of the hotel was perfect for us – right in the heart of downtown, downstair have a lots restaurant and a Aldi supermarket. Getting around was easy. We particularly appreciated the little touches: The complimentary two toy for kid, the delicious cookies at reception in the afternoon, the fast and reliable free Wi-Fi throughout the hotel, the well-equipped gym.

Very helpful and friendly doormen who welcomed us everytime we stepped in and helped with our luggages etc. Cleaning lady was honest— we (deliberately) left behind a powerbank that is spoilt and she returned it to the luggage collection counter. Central location near Nanjing Road where there are plenty of shopping and food options.

My biggest issue with this hotel was the inconsistent level of service from the staff. The reception team lacked efficiency and struggled with fluent English, which was surprising for a hotel of this caliber. Room service was equally underwhelming, the food I ordered fell far below expectations. To their credit, one senior manager handled my complaint professionally, apologizing and offering a complimentary dinner at one of the hotel’s clubs as compensation. Unfortunately, I didn’t catch their name, but they were the only staff member who truly met the standards of a 5-star establishment. However, the next day, another member of staff, one who doesn’t typically interact with guests, raised their voice at me, which was completely unacceptable. Overall, my experience was far from satisfying and not what one would expect from a luxury hotel. While there were brief moments of proper service, the inconsistency and unprofessional behavior significantly impacted my stay.

We were going for a 4D3N trip for my birthday. The room was nice in a comfortable size and with a great view. The location is perfect to me and very convenient. It is walkable distance to the Bund along with many popular shops. It will be nicer if more amenities would be provided, eg. comb, toothbrushes. The water overflowed in the shower room while I was taking shower the next morning of our arrival unfortunately. I called the Service Center and the act quickly. The technician came right away checking. In another 5 mins, staff Dylan came for a room change with an upgrade. Dylan is professional and considerate. He checked my preferences of room even for the upgrade.

TTugrnv.olVery nice hotel, we would like to come one day back. We had a big room, it was great for us after small rooms in Japan. However I noticed one minus - we had early check out and didn’t have time for a breakfast. They packed breakfast for us, but it was just bread, apple and yogurt. I still don’t understand for what we need three bread 🥖. Otherwise it was nice stay

SSoloTravelAnnaI had a lovely two-night stay at this hotel over the weekend! It’s super convenient, just a short walk from Changshu Road station on Line 7 and Line 1, and only about 10 minutes to Shanghai Library station on Line 10. When I arrived at 11 PM, I found it a bit tricky to locate the entrance, but then I noticed a big lemon 🍋 outside the building—just hop in the elevator there! The room was cozy and inviting, perfect for a good night’s sleep. It was dark and peaceful at night, which I really appreciated. The bathroom was clean and well-kept, and there was always a friendly staff member around to help out. They provided shampoo, conditioner, and body wash, which was a nice touch! You can do laundry on-site, and they have hairdryers available during the day—just keep in mind they’re not out at night. Overall, it was a great experience!

จารุวรรณDisappointing Experience at The Ritz-Carlton Shanghai I stayed at The Ritz-Carlton Shanghai for two nights, and unfortunately, my experience was far from the luxury service I expected. 1. Discrimination at Flair Rooftop Restaurant On my first night, I visited Flair, the hotel's rooftop restaurant. Before going, I was told at the lobby that the restaurant operates on a first-come, first-served basis, with no reservations. However, when I arrived at around 5:50 PM, the restaurant was only 20% occupied, yet the host told me it was ”fully booked.” Then, the host questioned my intent, asking whether I was there for drinks or dinner. When I said ”dinner,” he suddenly mentioned a 1,600-yuan minimum spending requirement. I agreed without hesitation and ended up spending over 2,200 yuan. But what truly bothered me was the initial rejection and the selective enforcement of the minimum charge, implying that I was being judged based on my appearance or nationality. If the restaurant was truly full, why was I offered a table once I confirmed I would spend a significant amount? 2. Misleading Room Upgrade Offer & Hidden Promotions When I checked in, I had already booked a suite with a city view for around 4,000 yuan. However, the receptionist tried to upsell me a Pearl Tower view for an additional 3,300 yuan, which is an unreasonable price just for a different view. What’s worse is that she failed to inform me about an existing hotel promotion: (cant remember the amount exactly) If I pre-purchased 1,000 yuan, I could use 1,400 yuan at Flair rooftop restaurant. I only found out about this the next day and when I asked whether I could retroactively apply this promotion to my bill (which was charged to my room), I was told it was not possible because I had to buy the package in advance. Had I known about this offer beforehand, I would have gladly used it. Instead, the staff prioritized upselling me a more expensive view rather than informing me of real benefits available to hotel guests. 3. Concierge Service & Taxi Nightmare The service at the concierge was another major disappointment. I had a reservation at a Chinese restaurant across the river and asked the concierge to arrange a taxi for me. Knowing that taxis in Shanghai can be unreliable and tricky (as I had experienced the night before with an airport taxi taking me to three wrong hotels and turning off the meter), I was relieved when the concierge used Didi (a ride-hailing app) to book a ride. However, when the car arrived, the concierge instructed a bellboy to walk me to the car, but he never confirmed whether it was actually mine. Just as the door was closing, a woman with luggage rushed in, claiming it was her ride to the airport. It turned out the car was not for me but for an entirely different passenger! At this point, I was already late for my dinner reservation. When I walked back to the concierge to ask what happened, he seemed irritated and dismissively said, ”Don’t worry” before reluctantly walking me to the correct car. This lack of professionalism and carelessness was incredibly frustrating. If you’re arranging a ride for a guest, ensure they get into the correct car. Final Thoughts This all happened in just one night—I can't imagine what else could go wrong during my stay. I sincerely hope no other guests have to go through such an experience. The Ritz-Carlton brand is known for its luxury and top-tier hospitality, but what I encountered was discriminatory treatment, misleading sales tactics, and poor service coordination. I hope management takes this feedback seriously and improves their service, ensuring all guests receive fair and professional treatment, regardless of their appearance or nationality. Ps: nice swimming pool by the way!!

GGuest UserHad a fantastic stay in Shanghai! The hotel’s ambiance and amenities were top-notch, making it a truly enjoyable experience from start to finish. A special shoutout to the VIP ambassador, Charlotte—her exceptional service and attention to detail made my visit even more memorable. CClaireHotel was modern and clean. (Looks new and quite Western!) Amenities are well equipped, they even provided a charging cable. Perfect layout for me travelling with elderly parents. Location is conmvenient, walking distance to North Bund and The Bund 外滩。 Staff were helpful and friendly with recommending food places nearby. It's located on a main street but there are actually a number of small local eateries in the small streets nearby. Will stay again next time I come to Shanghai!!!

GGuest UserI ended up upgrading to the Shanghai Suite with River View, and it was truly breathtaking. The view was absolutely stunning ~ definitely a 5star experience. I’m so grateful to Max, who made my stay at the hotel even better. During our trip, my child had a persistent high fever and developed a full body allergic reaction after taking antibiotics. Max recommended we visit Shanghai Jiao Tong University Hospital, and my child recovered in just two days. I’m truly thankful for Max from the Maxx Hotel. The food at the hotel was delicious. We especially loved the little robot that delivered items to our room,it was so cute! The hotel location is super convenient, just right across from The Bund. The bed was very comfortable and the environment was extremely quiet. They even provide a Dyson hairdryer ,no need to bring your own! good

Room was excessively hot even with the thermostat off. Was necessary to open a window to cool off the room to be able to sit comfortably without sweating.

GGuest UserGreat hotel and perfect location for the trains / airport. Also not that far into Central shanghai either by metro or taxi. Rooms clean and well appointed - only two things could make it better - international electric sockets in the room and can the lights operate independently in the room rather than all operate on one switch (other than bed spotlights) Otherwise all great including the excellent breakfast

GGuest UserThe hotel’s location and view were excellent—particularly if you choose one of the Bund or river view rooms. However, there was a construction site directly in front of the hotel, and the noise was quite disruptive; I could clearly hear it from the 23rd floor, and it kept me awake from early morning. The Vue rooftop bar is lovely—arguably one of the nicest in Shanghai along the rooftop at Bund 18. The staff had a somewhat aloof demeanour, and only a few spoke English, so communication often required the use of a translation app. The room quality was fairly standard—nothing luxurious—but the price was reasonable compared to other luxury hotels along the Bund. That said, the service level was noticeably below that of places like the Fairmont or Waldorf Astoria, both of which are more centrally located in the heart of the Bund, near Nanjing Road, the famous 2km shopping street. Of course, the Bund-view rooms at those hotels come at a much steeper price. The gym was quite basic—functional but nothing special—and the indoor pool was similarly standard, so don’t expect luxury in those areas. I used Didi to get around, and the hotel’s location was very convenient in that regard. If I find a good deal with one of the true luxury brands, I’d probably opt for that instead. However, I wouldn’t rule out returning to the Hyatt on the Bund—it’s a decent option if it fits your budget. I didn’t try the breakfast, as there are plenty of great cafés and coffee shops in Shanghai.
