Staff were friendly and helpful. Location is very convenient. Facilities are good. I did however have a cluster of ants in my room. They were swiftly dealt with by staff within about 5 minutes after reporting. I was grateful for being able to leave luggage prior to check in but a bit disappointed i had to pay 2 nzd to store luggage in a locked on departure for about 90 to 120 minutes. I can understand charges for longer periods of left luggage on check out, but under 2 hours seemed a bit unfortunate. However i would still recommend the YHA for others, although if you want a more ”party” type hostel, this isn't it.

We booked a 2 room cabin, the place was quiet that was nice but the place wasn't clean a dirty oven try left in the oven! Plates with crumbs on them! The bathroom fan didn't work so the cabin was super super damp, no soaps or shampoo dispensers were all empty! The bathroom and toilet door didn't close properly or quietly. The main bedroom must have a leak somewhere it rained on the last day and the carpet in the morning was super wet along the window. Couches were uncomfortable feels like it pushes you head forward and the TV had no Internet connection to watch Netflix like advertised. The place is very run down and needs a really really good clean! The accommodation was close to town and quiet. I wouldn't recommend this place spend an extra $100 and stay somewhere else
Had a private room which was clean and very comfortable. Cosy too. Only spent two nights but would’ve been happy there on a long trip. The shared areas were great too, especially for socialising. Staff were super friendly. Would definitely stay again.

Mākoha is Maori for Tranquil; which perfectly describes this hidden oasis. It s self-contained and provides beautiful country views in a spacious one-bedroom apartment. Mākoha is located in a quiet residential cul-de-sac but is only 3km from the center of Nelson city. It s the perfect place to relax and have a bbq on the patio after a day out exploring everything the region has to offer.The space:Mākoha Place is a cute one bedroom apartment below our own home. It's private and has its own separate entrance. The apartment is warm and has great views of the surrounding farmyard hills. It has a kitchen (fridge/freezer, bench top elements, microwave, jug, toaster, etc) which opens to the lining room (tv, stereo, & sofa that can convert into a bed). There's a spacious bathroom and bedroom (with a queen-size bed). It is furnished with quality furniture and appliances so you will be very comfortable. It has a private patio with outdoor seating and BBQ and resident native birds.
