This hotel is perfect for foreigners since the lady at the front desk can speak English. Also she gave us lots of tipps and helpful advices of how to visit the grottoes and the city itself. The room is spacious and very beautiful. There is a cozy lobby with delicious coffee.

Staff were fantastic- they helped me to find a former colleague/student in Datong after 40 years ! Great location and comfortable room in a hotel with character. Breakfast was good - fruit, eggs, Chinese millet porridge and accompaniments, toast etc with a good coffee machine for latte, espresso …

Basic accommodation w excellent location. Walking distance to Old city wall, Nine dragon pew. Many choices of traditional noodles are nearby. Liked the corner stall near to Museum ( a few units away), noodle w clear soup & chicken shreds, which was not heavily laden w chilly oil. Good restaurant food at ” 3 Dish Menu”. Commendation: The lady boss was extremely attentive & warm. Help us with reliable transportation arrangements to Wooden pagoda, Hanging monastry & Yungang Grottoes. Appreciated her help - booking tickets to a cultural show & going the extra miles to fetch us back in the rain.

Shanxi, a province that left a particularly good impression on me, is full of human touch everywhere. Our first stop was Datong, where we chose Laochenggen Inn. We encountered a sudden snowstorm on the way, and arrived at the inn almost in the morning. The owner was still waiting for us and even helped us with our luggage. Because I was traveling with a dog, there were many restrictions on travel, so the New Year's Eve dinner could only be arranged at the inn. The owner warmly and thoughtfully provided the venue, and I also got to know my aunt and her family from Hebei who were living with me. In the evening, the two families made dumplings together, and during the conversation we actually found people we knew in common. It was truly an acquaintance across thousands of miles. The service, temperature, bedding and environment of the inn were all very comfortable, allowing us to spend an unforgettable New Year's Eve! Next time I come to Datong, I will choose Laochenggen again!

1. It is newly renovated, and you can smell the decoration as soon as you enter the door. First of all, it is recommended that pregnant women and children not come for the time being. 2. You can park at the door, and there are many places to park casually, which is very convenient for self-driving. 3. The hotel offers breakfast, there are many types, praise. 4. The new hotel, the facilities inside are very new, the laundry equipment is also new, you can wash and dry, very convenient. 5. Hygiene is still a bit lacking, there are dirty spots on the sheets, and I found it when I checked in, because at the end of the bed, I didn't ask the waiter to change it.

On of the most beautiful hotel in town, modern with old decoration spirit. Great for city trip travelers. People nice and helpful. We loved our stay !

The rooms are of normal standard, belonging to the luxury hotels of the last century, but they are now in decline, but overall they are very good and the price-performance ratio is suitable. However, there are no extra quilts in the hotel, which seem to be the same in Datong. The front desk service is very friendly.

Very good value for money. Near the railway station. Classy, modern and well maintained facilities. High tech rooms. Classy interiors. Courteous and nice hotel staffs. Excellent service.

My wife's favourite hotel. Exceeded expectations in many areas. I feel like going back now. The room is new, big and really comfortable. Lots of little things made us feel so good: e.g. free snacks and dessert, books for browsing, free laundry, dining table, huge TV, big window. Now the down sides: There are not many eateries within walking distance. But I guess you can order delivery. They deliver to your hotel room here. It is so new that many cab drivers do not know the place.
