"This is one of the best hotels I have stayed in. The service at the buffet breakfast was impeccable while the breakfast varieties were acceptable. The service provided by the staff with the employees' tag below was superb during my breakfast. The room is huge, a truly international 5 star quality. Daily cleaning service was great while I didn't manage to get their name, but kudos to their services. All in all, my experience here was great, and I would recommend anyone who stay at this hotel."

"Spacious room, clean and comfortable. Breakfasts were more than adequate with a choice of varieties. Hotel location was ok just outside the wall though neighbouring shops were all shuttered. Taxis plentiful and inexpensive. Nightly dinner was at the hotel restaurant - good food, surprisingly very affordable prices and extremely good services from the staff. What stood out most were the very helpful, cheerful staff, at the front desk, restaurants, and cleaners!"

"When we arrived we were given the wrong room in B tower with single beds, we had to go back downstairs and show the booking again to request the correct double room in A tower. The rooms and amenities are old, and the fridge is broken. I called reception who told me to bring any items I want to cool down to the reception and use their fridge, when I asked if we can swap the broken fridge for a working fridge, they said all of the fridges are like this. They won't admit the fridges are all broken, but all of the fridges in the hotel are warm and won't make your food / beverages cold. The hotel is in dire need of an upgrade, and they need to replace the fridges."

"I highly recommend the Datong Hotel VIP Building. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, the service is professional, and its location is convenient for getting around. We booked an Executive View Room, which offered stunning night views of the ancient city. The front desk staff also kindly helped us arrange transportation for our outings, which we truly appreciated. Initially, we were hesitant to book this hotel due to some negative reviews on Ctrip. However, on our second night, we decided to give it a try, reasoning that it's an established and trustworthy brand. We were absolutely delighted with our stay after checking in! There were a few minor shortcomings, which I already discussed with the front desk during check-out. I hope the VIP Building continues to improve! I look forward to my next stay. The three books provided in the hotel room were incredibly informative. They offered a deeper insight into Datong's rich culture, landscape, customs, cuisine, and beautiful sights, truly enriching my experience after exploring the city. The hotel might consider setting up a dedicated shop or counter to provide a way for interested guests to purchase them."

"A very cost-effective hotel! Although the hotel is far from the ancient city, it is very close to museums and art galleries. Wanda Plaza is across the road, where there are two famous old restaurants in Datong, which are very convenient for eating, drinking and having fun. It is suitable for self-driving travel, and the underground parking lot is large. The hotel's buffet is great, especially the knife-cut noodles, mutton offal noodles and mutton dumplings, which are very authentic. The hotel room is well soundproofed and the whole hotel is very quiet. Of course, there are some shortcomings. For example, in the early April weather, the hotel room was extremely hot and dry, and the air conditioner did not provide cold air. It could only open the window 24 hours a day to dissipate heat, and the temperature control was not in place. The curtains in the room are behind a whole row of sofas. There are no smart facilities. You can only climb up the sofa to open and close the curtains, which is very inconvenient. The hotel twin room only has a single bed of 1.2 meters, and the double room is only 1.8 meters, which is not friendly to families with children. I hope to add a parent-child room with two beds, one large and one small."

We booked two rooms, one of which was adjacent to the inner courtyard, and our elderly guest noticed a slight odor, so the housekeeping manager immediately arranged for a replacement. The hotel is located within Datong Ancient City, within walking distance of several major attractions. The room was quiet and clean, with comprehensive amenities and smart controls. The breakfast was exquisite and promptly replenished. The staff was attentive and courteous. The front desk representative, Cheng Zipo, was especially patient in handling all inquiries and invoice requests. The service was excellent and highly recommended!"

Western choices include bread, ham, fried eggs, and coffee, all of which are of excellent quality. They also offer freshly squeezed juices that are crisp and nutritious. Whether you prefer Chinese or Western breakfast, you'll find something you love here to kickstart an energetic day. While the hotel's pool isn't huge, the water is crystal clear, and you can often see staff regularly testing and maintaining it. The area around the pool is also very clean and tidy, equipped with comfortable lounge chairs where you can relax after a swim. A refreshing dip here is perfect for both exercise and relaxation. Finally, I must commend the hotel's thoughtful attention to detail – they provide L'Occitane toiletries. L'Occitane's bath products are renowned for their high quality, fresh and pleasant scent, and rich lather. After using them, skin and hair feel clean and comfortable, which truly adds a luxurious touch to the stay. Overall, Wyndham Grand Shanxi Datong excels in both its facilities and service quality. The next time I visit Datong, I will definitely choose to stay here again, and I highly recommend it to anyone traveling to Datong for leisure or business!"
