"The owner of this B&B is very attentive. The breakfast was nutritious and delicious, and we really enjoyed it. We stayed on the third floor, and the owner helped us carry our luggage up and down, and even picked us up from the station. We could see the ancient city wall from our room, and the night view was beautiful. We were also happy to have a tea area. It's very close and convenient to the ancient city attractions; you can walk there. If you don't want to walk, there's a dedicated tourist shuttle right outside, and it's easy to book a car. The only minor drawback was that the toilet seat wasn't very functional."

"Our stay was amazing. The hotel is new, spotless, with all kind of amenities and very stylish. Impeccable attention to detail. But as impressed we were with the hotel the best part is the staff! Liu made us feel at home, she is sweet and adorable, made every effort to accommodate every request, helped us with tours and lent us some bicycles to go around the city. She even organised a take away breakfast for us early in the morning as we were leaving super early!! 11 out of 10! (The cleaning lady was so cute too, going all the way to please us)"

"Staying at the Jianguo Hotel in Datong was incredibly comfortable, truly living up to its reputation as a classic, well-established hotel. The rooms, cleanliness, and service were all exceptional. During our stay, we received two complimentary bathhouse vouchers, allowing us to enjoy a five-star bathing experience. The service auntie there was incredibly attentive, even squeezing toothpaste onto our toothbrushes and handing them to us. The scrubbing auntie was professional and thorough, with skillful techniques, and even recommended some local Datong specialties. The hotel's service was a huge help to us. The hotel breakfast was rich and delicious, featuring local Datong snacks. We ate our fill every morning. The breakfast service auntie cleared tables promptly and was very observant and thoughtful, making us feel right at home. To our surprise, the hotel even offers a free shuttle service to the Yungang Grottoes, which was incredibly convenient for guests. There was also a 'green channel' that allowed me to dine at Fenglin Pavilion, which is usually very difficult to get a reservation for. This trip to Datong left me with no regrets."

"A very pleasant stay at the Pipa Old Inn. A very historical building, though the place is equipped with all necessary modern amenities save for an elevator. Fortunately the staff very helpful assisted us with lugging up our heavy luggage to our room on the 3rd floor. Very beautifully decorated and strategically located in the heart of Datong Ancient City. Very pleasant and helpful staff who helped us plan and arrange our trips around Datong though sadly, they weren't very proficient in English (but that's common in China). Free breakfast was included in our stay and there was a decent spread though the menu didn't change much over our stay there save for one or two vegetable dishes being rotated. Overall definitely worth a return trip and stay in Datong Ancient City."

In the afternoon, ordering a pour-over coffee and settling into a soft sofa with a book, with sunlight streaming through the glass windows, it felt as if time itself had slowed down. This isn't just a hotel lobby; it's clearly the study of my dreams! 🛏️ Impeccable Details, Beyond Expectations The room's design continues the overall artistic and literary aesthetic. Wooden furniture, warm lighting, and thoughtfully displayed local characteristics and surrounding information reveal the owner's excellent taste. The bedding was incredibly comfortable, ensuring a sound night's sleep. Even more surprisingly, the soundproofing in the room was exceptional. There was no need to worry about being disturbed by the sounds from the book bar or the street, truly achieving a peaceful oasis amidst the hustle and bustle. 💖 Thoughtful Service, as Warm as Coming Home The front desk lady had a sweet smile and proactively introduced the hotel's features and nearby dining options during check-in. Any questions I had were answered promptly, which made me feel very much at ease. This stay completely exceeded my expectations. It's not just a place to rest your feet, but a healing space where one can slow down and enjoy a moment of tranquility. I highly recommend it to all book lovers, coffee enthusiasts, and friends who appreciate aesthetics! The next time I visit this city, this will definitely be my top choice."

"The b&b is located at the edge of the datong ancient wall. It is a little further from all the hustle and bustle but still convenient enough to get around. The service is impeccable!! We were warmly welcomed by the staff. They brought our heavy luggage up to our room and helped us with anything we needed. The b&b is new and clean! The room is also pretty spacious. The toilet seat is heated which was super nice (it was cold out when we visited). They provide basic amenities. The drinks in the fridge are also complimentary. They’re also able to cater to our dietary restrictions for breakfast (vegetarian-friendly). Highly recommend!!"

"On an off-peak trip after school started, the hotel kindly upgraded our room to a Wyndham Cloud King Room, and everything exceeded our expectations! It's just a 10-odd minute drive from Datong South Station, making transportation very convenient, and parking is free. The hotel boasts a grand and luxurious design with extensive use of stone, giving it an upscale and sophisticated feel. The rooms are also very spacious. The breakfast spread offers a wide variety and is available until 10:30 AM, which is perfect for those who love to sleep in! Practical amenities like a TOTO smart toilet, a huge 85-inch (approx.) TCL TV, a large bathtub, and charging cables were all provided. The slippers and bathrobes were incredibly comfortable too. They provide 8 bottles of drinking water daily, and minibar drinks are complimentary. What's more, the hotel even offers a 24-hour food heating service – absolutely brilliant and incredibly thoughtful! I'm extremely satisfied and have already recommended this hotel to my friends."

"The room was spacious, clean, and bright. Although the en-suite bathroom was a bit compact, its layout was very practical and well-designed. We really liked the integrated smart controls throughout the room, and the hotel staff were wonderfully warm and attentive. The L'Occitane toiletries were a nice touch. However, the hotel's biggest disappointment was the breakfast served in the basement. It was simply chaotic! The food and drink stations were disorganized, and the seating area was a complete mess, with tables and chairs crammed everywhere, even spilling into the aisles – clearly an attempt to seat more guests. The staff themselves seemed overwhelmed and disorganized, constantly rushing around to clear tables while guests stood waiting with their plates of food. This was during an off-peak travel period; I can only imagine the sheer chaos and shoulder-to-shoulder crowds during peak season. Fortunately, there's a Fenglin Pavilion downstairs serving dim sum, where for around 20-something RMB, one could enjoy a satisfying meal in a much more pleasant setting."

"Modern, clean, and comfortable room, well equipped with amenities, even a remote control for the curtains. The downside is the location: far from the old town, and the surrounding area has little tourist appeal, though there are some small markets and simple restaurants nearby."

"Spacious room, clean and comfortable. Breakfasts were more than adequate with a choice of varieties. Hotel location was ok just outside the wall though neighbouring shops were all shuttered. Taxis plentiful and inexpensive. Nightly dinner was at the hotel restaurant - good food, surprisingly very affordable prices and extremely good services from the staff. What stood out most were the very helpful, cheerful staff, at the front desk, restaurants, and cleaners!"
