Scenic Hotels in Datong

"Ive just left the Inn and on the train to the next destination. I wish I could stay longer as this was such a pleasant stay. The boss lady was so nice. I booked just a basic room but got upgraded to almost a studio flat with separate bedroom in the mezzanine and lounge downstairs. Everytime I come back from sightseeing, all hot tired, the boss lady gave me a bowl of delicious melons. It was sweet and juicy. The best melons I have had. The second time she also gave me bananas. It was so much needed. The hotel is in the perfect location. Thank you for a wonderful stay. 1. From Datongnan station there are buses 608 or 61 which takes you directly to Huayansi stop, less than 1min from the hotel. However, the hotel frontage is a jewelry shop, I didn't know so ended up walking up/down the street for 10mins before the boss lady realised and came out to tell me I have arrived. 2. If you want to go to Yungang Grottoes. From the same bus stop take bus 38, then change to bus 3 to get to the Grottoes. Journey time about an hour in total. And cost 4RMB (2RMB per bus). However, you have to set up some kind of public travel app from Wechat to get the QR code to pay the bus fare. I didn't know this. Fortunately, some nice people helped pay my fare, then another lovely girl helped set up the app enabling me to use the bus from then as when I arrived and took the bus from the train station to hotel Wechatpay didn't work. Fortunately the driver let me ride for free as I guess he realised Im foreign and don't have this app. Only when I took the bus to Yungang Grottoes, the girl told me I need to set up the travel app etc and helped me set it up. 3. The hotel is also right opposite to the Huayan temple. A beautiful ancient temple. Deffo can't be missed. "My partner and I visited Datong Ancient City, and choosing 'Boyuan' was the most delightful part of our entire trip!. The guesthouse is tucked away in the heart of the ancient city, making it incredibly convenient to explore Huayan Temple and the city walls. It offers a tranquil escape amidst the bustling streets; stepping into the courtyard instantly shields you from the urban noise. The overall design is a new-Chinese-style courtyard, with blue bricks, wooden windows, lanterns, and greenery creating an elegant and refined atmosphere. Every corner of the courtyard is a picturesque scene, perfect for traditional-style photos. Spending leisure time sipping tea and enjoying the cool breeze in the courtyard truly immerses you in the slow-paced life of an ancient capital. The room's cleanliness was impeccable, the bedding soft and comfortable, and the amenities complete and thoughtful. Given the dry northern climate, they even provided a humidifier. The soundproofing was excellent, ensuring a peaceful and restful night's sleep every evening. I must particularly commend the butler and staff; their service was warm, attentive, and discreet. From check-in guidance and recommendations for local sightseeing to promptly addressing any daily needs, their attention to detail was exceptional. The daily breakfast was authentic and delicious, a comforting start to the day, reflecting their meticulous care in every aspect. Staying at Boyuan was incredibly comfortable and relaxing, completely free of the usual constraints of being away from home. It felt like owning a private courtyard in the ancient city. I left with a heavy heart. I highly recommend Boyuan to couples and travelers visiting Datong, and I will definitely choose it again on my next visit to Datong!"

"What a pleasant surprise this stay was! (´▽`) The location is excellent, right next to the district government and very close to the ancient city, making it super convenient for getting around. There's a delicious knife-cut noodle place nearby that opens at 6:30 AM, and the Tangjiu convenience store next door also opens early. The first floor has a lovely book bar where you can borrow books for free, and they serve coffee and cocktails – perfect for enjoying a drink while reading. So many interesting books too! I also really loved their decor; the tatami mat rooms have a dedicated reading table, and the mattress was incredibly comfortable. The disposable amenities were comprehensive, and that horse oil toiletries set left me feeling moisturized inside and out (in a good way!). What really stood out during my stay were the front desk ladies. They were all so wonderful, always greeting us warmly when we returned. Their service was incredibly attentive and so heartwarming! 🥺 Any request we had was met quickly. Thanks to them, I've been sleeping so well these past few days 555. I really don't want to leave! I'll definitely stay here again next time I'm in Datong. I've already highly recommended it to all my friends! (￣∇￣)"

"The hotel's service and environment are absolutely fantastic! The room was spotless, and it had all the amenities you'd expect from a five-star hotel. During our stay, we received complimentary fruits and snacks, and every evening they even brought us pear soup, which was a lovely touch. There are free self-service drinks in the hotel lobby. The hotel price was excellent too! The breakfast spread was incredibly rich, making our stay with a child completely hassle-free. One night, after visiting Hengshan Hanging Temple, my child fell asleep in the car and I couldn't wake them up. The staff member on duty that night was incredibly kind and helped carry my child back to the room! The service here is truly outstanding!!"

"The hotel is located in the southeast corner of the old city, close to the attractions. The room is not big, but the facilities are new and very clean. There aren't many breakfast options, but the taste is decent. The only downside is that the bathroom has an odor. This is because the floor drain uses a gravity-flap cover, which doesn't seal tightly and has gaps, allowing the smell to come up. I suggest replacing it with a water-sealed type."

"My child absolutely loved this room! Besides being spacious, it was incredibly well-equipped. They even provided free earplugs and makeup remover wipes, not to mention complimentary tricycles and bicycles for exploring the ancient city. It was very quiet at night, making for a peaceful sleep. And the front desk staff? Their service was exceptional – truly made our stay comfortable and pleasant. The breakfast, served on a street in the ancient city, was just a few hundred meters away."

"I came to Datong to book a small courtyard homestay. I originally planned to stay for one night and transition. After the experience, I didn't hesitate to stay for another day and I was completely reluctant to leave. "The staff were so so friendly and super nice!!! Told them it was our honeymoon and there was a handwritten note with fruits and snacks waiting for us on the table. They didn't have to, but they did ☺️ when we left, we were rushing for the train and didn't have time to eat breakfast. The staff were so concerned we were skipping breakfast she quickly packed some food for us to go and even ran after us to pass us cutlery because she forgot to pack some. Would recommend staying here 10/10!"

"The hotel's location is excellent, within walking distance to the center of Datong Ancient City. Fahua Temple, Nine-Dragon Wall, and Huayan Temple are all nearby. Kailu Restaurant inside the ancient city is quite good, while Fengling Pavilion is just okay. The room is spacious and very clean, and they even provided 2 complimentary drinks in the fridge. There's an underground parking garage with free parking; just scan a code when you leave. I personally really enjoyed the lamb offal soup with rice noodles for breakfast, ordered it two days in a row. The fruit was fresh and tasty. If you like street food, there's plenty right across the road, and it seemed quite popular. Overall, highly recommended."
