📍 14-16 Rue Jean Trinquet, 2nd arrondissement of Marseille, Marseille
★★★★ 9.1 (131 reviews)

"First, the positives: The breakfast was fantastic, and the coffee was great, which is a rare find at this price point. The room had a kettle, and the front desk staff were incredibly friendly and helpful! The hotel is a convenient 10-minute walk to the Old Port. The lobby offered free coffee and croissants. I was really worried about service staff in France only speaking French, but everyone at this hotel spoke excellent English. Now for the issues I encountered: Initially, I was given a room on the fourth floor. When I pulled back the covers, I found a significant amount of hair on the pillows, which seemed to be a mix of human and animal hair (this hotel is pet-friendly). Lifting the duvet revealed even more hair, making it seem like the cleaning staff hadn't changed the bedding at all. The front desk immediately offered me another room on the same floor. After moving my luggage, I still found a small amount of hair when I pulled back the covers in the new room. I then asked the front desk for a fresh set of sheets and duvet covers. They offered to move me again, this time to a room on the 6th floor. This room was much better, but the pillowcases had yellow stains on all four corners. I requested new pillowcases from the front desk and changed them myself. One minor concern: The hotel isn't on the main street and is a bit close to the train station, which made me slightly uneasy walking around at night."

"A more than unpleasant welcome that is at odds with the standard expected for a hotel of this type. As an example and to start the stay badly, the hotelier asked us upon arrival to cancel our *********** reservation to avoid the taxes incurred, without explaining things to us clearly and thus leaving doubts about the legality of the request and the intentions. Breakfast is excessively expensive for the quality of the service! Again, on the subject of welcome: the hotelier pointed out to us that we were two minutes early on the opening time of the buffet (of insufficient quality - frozen products) and explained to us that we had to take a tray, not eat more than one egg and croissant because otherwise there would not be enough for the other customers, before bluntly asking us to put said tray on the bar when we had finished! To end our stay, the hotelier tried to charge us for a lamp that we had damaged, under the pretext that we had signed a commitment on the goods present in the room (which was not the case upon our arrival, no such document was presented to us) and that a visit to the room had been carried out in the presence of an employee (which was also not carried out). Insulting tone, lack of professionalism, interested and abusive manager! If the hotel does indeed benefit from an exceptional setting and the experience of staying in this type of building is interesting - the value for money is clearly not worth it! Defective bathroom with flooding in every shower, poor cleanliness, no service or service at the level (no shower gel and soap in the bathroom), thermal and acoustic insulation problem linked to the building! In short, it is preferable to plan to carry out the visit of the premises which is worth the detour but avoid this hotel which, given these manners, should not succeed in lasting over time!"

Grand Hôtel Beauvau Marseille Vieux-Port - MGallery ★★★★
"Sharing a less-than-pleasant experience. I had an incredibly difficult night at this hotel in Marseille, even though I just slept there. I booked a standard room, room number 525. After checking in, I found that the air conditioning, safe, and refrigerator were all broken. The room was extremely stuffy, several degrees hotter than the hallway, and the AC was blowing hot air. I reluctantly went to the front desk to ask for a room change, and the manager offered me a fan, stating there were no other rooms available. Later that night, I couldn't bear it anymore and went back to the front desk. Another staff member said there was another room, but it was just as hot. The room's window faced a sort of air shaft and had no screen or safety device, so opening it at night to sleep wasn't practical. With the fan on and the old AC blowing hot air, the noise level in the room was 72 decibels, louder than an airplane, making it impossible to sleep. I eventually suffered through the night and left directly in the morning without breakfast, just to get some cool air. The only way to cool down was by taking cold showers... Please choose this hotel with extreme caution..."

"Fine hotel with a nice Greece theme which gave it a timeless look. The rooms were clean and modern. The only negative point were the elevators and a emergency stairwell where you can’t get out if you get in but the hotel was doing it’s best to fix it."
