Hot Springs Hotels in Kyoto

We took a taxi to this location because it was a little too far by bus, and we had all of our luggage with us. The location is beautiful. If you're only staying for one night like we did, then you should check in at the earliest (3:00 pm) so you can explore the local area. There are some really nice shrines nearby. We were only able to do this after breakfast the next morning. We also had to be out by 10:00 am, which surprised us because it was listed as 11:00 am on Trip.com. You will be served traditional Japanese cuisine for dinner and breakfast. They do an excellent job of presenting all of the dishes, and the service is also incredible. But if you're not used to eating raw fish, or traditional Japanese cuisine in general, you should definitely bring your own snacks to eat in your room! We stayed in the Garden view room with tatami mats. The staff will actually rearrange the room for you during dinner and set up your beds if you select this room. That was a very nice touch, so make sure you don't leave your room a total mess before dinner! I have added a picture of the beds after they were set up. The garden view was well worth the money we spent for it. Very relaxing and beautiful. And surprisingly enough...the tatami beds were super comfortable and warm!

The only minor issue was getting a room with a really bad view due to traveling with a baby, which was a bit disappointing. Other than that, everything was perfect! Every room has its own hot spring, and they even provided medicinal wine for the bath. Plus, there were daily snacks delivered to the room. The absolute highlight, though, was how incredibly delicious the hotel food was.

Located in the heart of Kyoto. Staff were very friendly and could speak perfect English.... Easy walking to different scenic places and Nikishi Market.. There is a taxi stand right outside the hotel and train station of two different lines is just steps away... Our room was on the 8th floor. It feels so wonderful waking up to a gorgeous view every morning and soaking ourselves in the private onsen was the perfect way to start and end our day. Nothing to fault at all. We would definitely come back in the future. A big thank you to Sora Niwa Bettei..

This is a budget hotel aiming for something more—and they’ve genuinely succeeded. The room was probably the smallest we’ve ever stayed in (think sleeping on a boat or in an RV), but it was spotless and well designed. Every afternoon from 3:30 to 5:30 the hotel offers a complimentary sake bar in the lobby.  They also offer an impressive selection of amenities: toothbrushes, razors, face masks, serums, bath salts, and more. Breakfast is excellent, with plenty of variety. The onsen is O.K. and alternates between men’s and women’s use. We used the laundry and it is conveniently located and inexpensive.  It rained while we were there and they offered us umbrellas. The staff are friendly and helpful, without exception. The location is fantastic—just steps from Teramachi and Nishiki Markets, an easy walk to multiple train stations, and close to both the Gion and Pontocho districts. There are countless restaurants in every direction. On one of the afternoons during our four‑night stay, the hotel even hosted a free maiko (apprentice geisha) performance in the lobby, which was beautifully done.

We stayed here for a family trip over Children's Day in May. Banyan Tree is such a renowned brand even in Korea, so I had high expectations when I booked our stay. However, we were hoping for a mountain view, but instead, we got a cemetery view – and on a dark, rainy night, it was quite enough to give us nightmares. If you're looking for a relaxing experience, like soaking in a Japanese cypress (hinoki) bathtub, you'll be satisfied, but I have to say the view was extremely disappointing. On the positive side, the Japanese tatami room vibe was very pleasing, and the aroma oil program at the spa was really interesting.

Hotel in a great location, short walk to main train station Kyoto where you can connect to all train system. A step away from bus station which very convenient to travel around the city. Convenient store and food easily find, hotel room is bigger then all usual hotel in Japan and cleanliness is spotless. The Onsen is very clean and big, even is crowded you will still find a spot to enjoy.

This is a pleasant onsen ryokan, and you can visit the onsen even if you're not staying at the hotel, which means it can get quite crowded. The spa facilities close at 11 PM, which isn't ideal; I wish they'd stay open until at least midnight. Massages are only available until 9 PM, so it's impossible to get one before bed if you prefer to explore the city beforehand. I visited the spa late, closer to closing time, and everything was comfortable, except for the early closing. Around 9 PM, the spa gets very busy. There are two floors for the spa, with both an indoor and outdoor onsen. The sauna is excellent and very hot. The hotel isn't centrally located. It's quiet around the hotel, and the hotel itself was also peaceful. You'll need to take the metro or a taxi to get around. Taxis from the city center are reasonably priced, costing around 1700-2000 yen. The room has tatami mats and is a medium size, but the bathroom is small. All necessary toiletries are provided. Free water, tea, and coffee are available. There's also a luggage storage room.

We loved our stay at Hotel the Mitsui. Super nice and zen design . Absolutely adore their lobby area, which I think is designed by Andre Fu. Always drawn into his work somehow. Breakfast food was okay, but the view really made up everything l. Super relaxing & beautiful Service was great. Most of them were able to speak English proficiently. There’s a thermal spring at their basement, which you have to call the reception before you go to ensure there’s enough space. Everything was well prepared, including swimwear, disposable underpants, towels, water, etc. Since they control the # of people, everyone has their own space and it still feels very private. Room is nice with many details. Love their huge selection of pillows available for guests. It’s not huge, but the space is well used. Location wise, I wouldn’t say it’s the most convenient, but if you take a cab, everything is reachable in 20 mins max, so it’s not too bad. There are still good restaurants and touristy places to go that are in walkable distance, so it’s not middle of nowhere. Overall, fantastic experience which I will recommend for others!

The bus stop is right outside the hotel, and the subway is just a few minutes' walk away, making transportation very convenient. There's also a large Aeon supermarket about a 5-minute walk away, with a great selection of beef and sashimi. Staying at this hotel is very convenient.

This Japanese-style guesthouse is very authentic. It has an open-air hot spring bath and the meals feature a delicious miso hot pot with plenty of vegetables. We visited during cherry blossom season, so it was crowded, but the customer service team was very helpful and actively assisted us in finding a better room type, which we really appreciated! It's surrounded by forest, and we heard that in autumn and winter, there are bear families around, but the owner seems quite used to it!
