Hangzhou Olympic Sports Center Grand New Century Hotel

Attending Shen Shen's concert, I wanted a hotel close by, so I picked this one. Overall, my stay was quite satisfactory. The breakfast spread was very generous. The only minor drawback was the absence of delivery robots. This meant drivers had to personally deliver orders to each room, which, given the hotel's size and number of rooms, must have been quite a chore for them. Fortunately, every delivery person I encountered was kind enough to bring the order directly to my door, saving me a trip downstairs to a locker.

I booked this hotel because it's conveniently located near the Olympic Sports Center (Big Lotus), where Zhou Shen's concert was held. Reviews also mentioned it was relatively new, so I decided to book an executive business room for one night, even though it cost nearly 1300. First and foremost, as soon as I stepped into the room, there was a really strong, unpleasant damp/fishy smell that lingered. After a while, it was so bad it almost made me feel sick. I immediately called housekeeping to send up an air freshener. I initially wanted to switch rooms, but during a major concert event, you know how it is – hotels are almost always fully booked. Secondly, the coffee table in the room had some unidentifiable stains, which made it look dirty and unkempt. Finally, after the concert, at 11:30 PM, while I was taking a shower, there was persistent, annoying knocking on my door. What's more, the elevators didn't require a room key to operate, which left me feeling that the security and protection measures were seriously lacking. From housekeeping to breakfast service, all the staff were cold and unsmiling, completely lacking the welcoming demeanor expected in hospitality. I hope they improve their staff training.

The hotel's overall condition was quite average. My room was really far from the elevator, and dragging my luggage across the carpet was a real struggle. On the second day of my stay, I found a centipede on the curtains. The hotel staff did help me switch to a different room. The replacement room, however, was even more bizarre. In the middle of the night, the lights inexplicably turned on. Being half-asleep, I initially thought it was morning. When I finally fully woke up at 4 AM, I realized the lights were on and couldn't be turned off. Even after calling hotel staff, they were unable to switch them off, resulting in a completely sleepless night. The hotel really needs to upgrade its facilities and cleanliness!

I searched for hotels for a concert and finally settled on Kaiyuan. From Hangzhou East, I took Line 6 to Olympic Sports Center Station. After exiting from Gate A, it was just a short walk of a few hundred meters to the hotel. The hotel is incredibly close to the Big Lotus Stadium. My booked room didn't include breakfast, but I bought it separately through a group deal on Dianping, which was great value. I also connected with the hotel's concierge via WeChat, and their service was excellent. They even gave me a canvas tote bag for the concert.

The twin room we booked reeked of fresh paint the moment we opened the door. It also had an interior window that overlooked discarded items and building materials, causing the odor to waft directly back into the room. We immediately contacted the front desk, and the staff were very helpful, arranging a switch to a king room for us. However, the bathroom in the new room seemed to have a poorly designed drainage system, as it constantly emitted a sewage smell. With no ventilation fan, this odor was impossible to get rid of. Overall, the experience left much to be desired.

Despite being a newly opened hotel, the carpets in the hallways were quite dirty, which made it not feel new at all. We were assigned a basketball-themed room on the first floor, but unfortunately, the bidet in the bathroom was out of order. The electric vehicle charging stations downstairs were also non-functional. Our booking for two adults and one child was short one breakfast; the front desk suggested we could purchase an additional voucher on **. On a positive note, the front desk promptly arranged for an extra set of toiletries and some fruit to be sent to our room, which was much appreciated! The breakfast included freshly cooked noodles, which were quite decent. As we were visiting for a concert, the hotel thoughtfully provided a simple map at the front desk.
