"The Dunhuang Hotel lives up to its reputation! It's located right next to the Shazhou Night Market and offers a wealth of dining options. The hotel's facilities are first-class, elegant, and beautifully appointed. I originally booked a king-size bed room without a window, but the hotel proactively upgraded me to one with a window, which was very thoughtful. The room was comfortable and cozy, and the front desk and housekeeping were attentive and helpful. I stayed four nights, and while the room was quite expensive, it was a great value!
The only downside was the breakfast. While the breakfast setting was pleasant, the service was friendly, and the food looked plentiful, it was almost identical every day and not particularly tasty. The hot dishes tasted like leftovers. The cantaloupe wasn't sweet at all, and there were several canned fruits on display. It's harvest season, so why not have more fresh fruit?"

"The hotel is well located in city center and provides complimentary pick up/drop off service from train station. There is a direct bus which goes to mogao caves right in front the hotel- making self transport a breeze. Room is spacious and nicely designed with a large bath tub.
Apart from the hotel hardware, what really stood out was the extra mile services offered by the staff. There are 2 staff who really shine.
Firstly, Ms tong tong （彤彤）was very patient in explaining all the touristy sites around and how to get there. She helped us book performance tickets so we could enjoy some discounts. When we enquired about transfer to liu yuan, she not only checked for all the information online for us but also personally went to the bus station to find a driver who goes to liuyuan. We're so impressed with her extra mile service!! Really kudos to her great personality and service.
Next staff to mention is Mr li (李师傅）who picked us up at the train station. He suggested some dining places to us and offered to drop us off at mogao caves when we bumped into him at the hotel lobby.
Overall, highly recommend to stay at this hotel."

"It was a completely unexpected state guesthouse-level experience. Since its construction in 1979, the hotel has received many dignitaries and VIPs as a state guesthouse. The murals in the lobby of the north building and the flying fairy in the lobby of the south building are definitely national treasures, and can be called the first cave of Mogao Grottoes. Although the rooms of the old four-star hotel are small and the equipment and facilities are a bit old, the hygiene is very good and the service is very considerate. The breakfast alone is 40 per person, which is a little expensive, but the quality is beyond reproach, especially the fried dough sticks, which are absolutely state banquet-level, and the beef noodles are the standard answer to Lanzhou beef noodles. In the off-season, you can enjoy the state guesthouse at a relatively low price, which is great value!"

"We got free upgrade to the suite so that was nice. Very pretty river view and not as noisy as some of the reviews I've read. Probably because the weather was getting chilly.
Room was very spacious, even for just the size of the bedroom alone. Bed was comfortable and not too soft. But I will say that the light switches in the rooms and also the smart toilet seat were very confusing. Strangely, it had a large bathtub area, but a separate and very squished shower closet. The water didn't quite drain properly also.
Breakfast was okay. But considering how the city really is just a town in the desert, I'd say it's actually pretty good. The local restaurants are also options, but we had to get up super early for day trips, and didn't feel like freezing outside to look for food when it's still dark. Side note, the night market in town is nice but not much going on outside of that area.
The hotel is not in the city centre, but since the city is small, taxi is the way to go. We actually end up just getting the phone number of one of the taxi driver, and called her whenever we planned to head out.
I chose the hotel based on aesthetics and was not disappointed. But our suite was in the end of a very long hallway, so get ready to walk if you are not near the elevator."

"Can't be more satisfied! The sister at the front desk is so beautiful. If you are not married, you must turn one home, hehe. "The hotel parking lot is large and convenient, and the breakfast is also good. However, the room window I saw when booking online was large, but when I moved in, I found a small window, almost the same as the bathroom window. I have never stayed in a hotel with such a small window in many years. It was really uncomfortable to live in. "A family booked this hotel for a trip to Dunhuang during the Spring Festival. The high-speed train arrived at around 7:00 before dawn. We called the hotel and a special car came to pick us up immediately. Thank you, driver, for your hard work. As soon as we checked in and put our luggage away, the waitress brought us steaming snow fungus and red dates soup. It was so delicious! We booked the Mogao Grottoes tickets for 9:30 in the morning. Manager Shi Caixia also drove us to the digital center in person. Thank you so much. When we left the hotel for the high-speed rail station early in the morning, Shi Caixia also drove us to the station. Thank you for your hard work. You also prepared breakfast for us in advance. GGuest UserWhile there are limited parking spots directly in front of the hotel, there's a spacious parking lot around the back, complete with EV charging stations! We had booked a king room but were pleasantly surprised with an upgrade to a family room. The room also came equipped with a humidifier, which was a nice touch. We had a pretty good stay overall! On the 6th floor, there's a laundry room with nine washing machines, though no tumble dryers. However, they provide a drying area. I'd heard clothes could dry in just over an hour; being from the humid south, I was naturally skeptical. But I gave it a try, and to my surprise, it actually worked! This place is truly incredibly dry!

The front desk service is warm and thoughtful, and they are responsive to every request. They also provide local specialty apricot peel tea, which is sweet and sour. The coffee in the lobby is very delicious. The breakfast is very varied and delicious. The staff are all very nice, from the receptionists to the waiters at the restaurant. Conveniently located about 1 km to Shazhou Night Market. Overall, excellent value for money. If I had to stay in Zhangye, I would book this hotel again.

GGuest UserFuguo was so new when we visited in April 2025 that it was still being constructed around us! The staff made great efforts to minimize disruption and noise, and the room was very clean since it was basically new! Special thanks to Xiao Tian and the others at the front desk for going above and beyond for helping us locate a lost item, including contacting the business and arranging a courier to retrieve the lost item. Breakfast was great, too, and the breakfast staff very accommodating! The only caveat (especially for Western guests un-used to the ubiquitous smoking habit in China): we had a wonderful time at Fuguo hotel partially because this was the only truly non-smoking facility we encountered during our trip to China. Because it was so new, the hotel did not have the smell of smoke in its general areas or within the non-smoking rooms. However, while leaving on our last day, we noticed that a large group of guests took up residence and immediately started smoking in the elevator and lobby. We recommend the hotel reinforces its non-smoking policy - as stated on the lobby signs - so that all guests can breathe comfortably.

MM449306****I've never experienced such a wonderful desert hotpot in my life! After gazing at the majestic rolling sand dunes during the day, I sat in the open-air courtyard in the evening, the copper pot bubbling with steam, and I ate lamb rolls wrapped in sesame sauce. The evening breeze, carrying the coolness of the sand, blew past, and I looked up to see the sunset painted a vibrant orange-pink glow—the contrast was incredible!
The most amazing thing was the starry night sky. Lying on the lounge chairs set up by the hotel, the Milky Way was so clear it looked like a handful of diamonds, and even the twinkling stars were visible. The waiter said that on clear days, you could even see a shooting star, and sure enough, I saw one shortly after waiting, and quickly closed my eyes and made a wish.
The room was also very comfortable, completely unlike the desert. The hot water was plentiful, the bedding was soft, and when I opened the curtains in the morning, I could see the sunrise, painting the sand dunes a golden rim. Next time I visit the desert, this will definitely be my only choice!

KKevan KeeganReally good location only ten minute walk from Night Market, airport bus drop, Dunhuang Museum and great choice of local food. Tremendous coffee shop Lucky Box serves Illy and great small cakes. Dunhuang Museum is free and really worth a visit. Taxis and Didi are plentiful.
The room was very big and comfortable with great shower, A/C and huge TV (but very complicated w subscription cable channels - I couldn’t find a way to get regular TV!).
Breakfast was disappointing - a basic Chinese offering only available 7.30-9.30 and no fresh fruit.
Front desk staff very friendly and helpful.

NNikky_zNew renovate hotel, this hotel just open (new renovate from the old hotel) 2 weeks. Overall hotel is fine and nice facilities but some amenities is missing. we need to request for shower cap and others from the front desk as they not arrange in the room. This hotel claim as 4 star but not provide any tea bag in the room when we ask the staff they said that hotel just open and the vendor still not sent T_T. Hope this could preparation in the future. I booked this hotel with free breakfast privilege's trip.com . The breakfast is very simple, free is ok but not worth if need additional charge.
