"Staying at Shazhou Wild Luxury Camp in Dunhuang was an amazing experience. Tucked away on the edge of Mingsha Mountain, it offers private access to the vast desert. Unlike the crowded Crescent Lake scenic area, this place is tranquil and relaxing. In the evenings, we played cards in the cool shade of the terrace, watched the sunset, and then the sunrise in the mornings. At night, we could step out anytime to gaze at the starry sky and the Milky Way. It was a truly unique experience, highly recommend! Just a couple of suggestions: 1. It would be great if you could recommend a few spots and paths for sandboarding. Otherwise, kids with sandboards run around everywhere, and some dunes are too hard to slide down, wasting a lot of energy and time. 2. Could you consider installing a rope ladder to the highest dune, similar to Crescent Lake? It would make climbing much easier. Otherwise, the women and children in our group couldn't make it up, which was a shame given the beautiful views."

"The staff and volunteers were all great! I am truly impressed by how helpful they were. I think the young boss should take credit for this - staff seems to have autonomy to make decisions and therefore were confident and sure of what they could offer. My two favourite persons from the hostel in the pictures : ) But this morning there were another staff and a volunteer who really went out of their way to consider and advise two travellers regarding hitchhiking. I wasn't disturbed by the smell of the camels. Location wise, it's really convenient to visit the oasis and sand dunes. Downside : food in the area is limited in choice and quite costly. Plus: it's really not that far from the city. There's a bus #3 that takes you for ¥2 to the city and back. Didi rides are also mostly under ¥10 to the city."

"My wife and I just stayed at the Dunhuang Hotel. We were incredibly impressed by the beautiful architecture, excellent service, and profound cultural heritage of this place. The hotel boasts an exceptional location near Mingsha Mountain, offering panoramic desert views from its upper floors. The entire establishment resembles a desert castle, standing majestically amidst the vast Gobi Desert, overlooking the ancient Silk Road. In the lobby, three colossal murals depict themes of the Silk Road: its people, treasures, and architecture. These murals, soaring three stories high, transport guests through ancient history, creating a truly awe-inspiring experience. The hotel's Chinese restaurant is grand, designed in the style of a traditional three-courtyard mansion. Every brick and tile, every intricate eave, exudes a Han and Tang dynasty grandeur. Yet, the wooden beaded curtains at the entrance, the exotic carpets, and various decorative details remind you that this is the empire's frontier, a vital gateway to the Western Regions. As dusk falls, red lanterns beneath the eaves and landscape lights on the lawn illuminate the castle-like rammed earth walls, casting a warm, reddish glow. The distant blue sky and tranquil desert beautifully complement each other, forming a serene and picturesque scene where beauty can be found at almost every turn. The guest rooms are equally distinctive, seemingly a fusion of Central Plain and Western Regions cultures. Most of the furniture is Chinese in style: the grand chairs, round tables and stools, stacked cabinets, and the bird-and-flower paintings on the walls all evoke an antique charm. Upon closer inspection, almost all tabletops are covered with brightly colored, exotic-style tablecloths, and large areas of the floor are laid with thick, soft, and comfortable Bohemian carpets. The lighting fixtures also often have a Western Regions flair, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere, as if you've entered a nomad's home. It's worth noting that the bedside and floor lamps are adorned with frescoes of the flying apsaras from the Mogao Grottoes, a testament to the cultural richness embedded in every detail. Each room also provides a collection of books for guests to read, including the 'Dunhuang City Chronicles,' stories of the Mogao Grottoes frescoes, and the handwritten notes of the late founder, Mr. Wang Mangang. These notes recount his challenging experience of investing in and building the hotel in Dunhuang during the early days of reform and opening up in 1993, inspiring a deeper understanding and respect for this hotel. In my opinion, Dunhuang Hotel is not just a place to stay; it's a heartfelt interpretation and preservation of Dunhuang and the Silk Road culture. It left us with warm and unforgettable memories. "The newly renovated room was incredibly stylish. The desk and partition were integrated seamlessly, and the sink, bathtub, and toilet were all separated, providing excellent privacy. I particularly loved the washbasin's unique material – water drops created a lovely chime. A room of this size in Japan could easily be two separate units! The mini-fridge was very handy for storing food, which was a lifesaver for our early 8:45 AM slot at the Mogao Grottoes Digital Center. The outer walls were 48 bricks thick, providing great earthquake resistance and insulation. They also had all the amenities, including a smoke escape mask, razor, and bath liner. The pick-up and drop-off service was an added bonus. The 9th-floor restaurant terrace offered fantastic views. A special shout-out to Xiaodai, who arranged our airport pick-up. After booking our flights and hotel on Ctrip, I confirmed the pick-up with the hotel. On April 2nd, flying from Chengdu to Lanzhou, then Lanzhou to Dunhuang (with a stopover in Jiayuguan), our flight was delayed three times due to strong winds. Xiaodai kept in constant communication with me, even confirming again when we were pushed back and taxing in Jiayuguan. We finally arrived 4 hours late. The moment I turned on my phone after landing, I received a message from driver Mr. Wu, who picked us up smoothly and got us to the hotel. Following Xiaodai's advice, we left at 7:50 AM for the Mogao Grottoes Digital Center, making it to the 8:45 AM first show. We then successfully got tickets for our desired special grottoes and visited all the open areas of the Mogao Grottoes. On April 4th, I went to the front desk to ask about the bus to the airport and happened to find Xiaodai on duty. She told me they could arrange a drop-off. When I gave her my room number, she recognized me from our earlier pick-up arrangements. My interactions with Xiaodai showed me the hotel's excellent service, with attention to every single detail. If 10 is the highest score, I'd give them a 12. Dunhuang is a place you'll want to visit more than once or twice."

"My positive impression of this hotel started with the complimentary airport pick-up service, and after having dinner here, I decided to give it a glowing review on the platform. Regarding the pick-up: Master Liang was very friendly and punctual. The car was exceptionally clean, and perhaps because it was the off-season, it was just our family of three. He patiently answered all our strange questions about Dunhuang on the way from the airport to the hotel and even recommended many restaurants (though we didn't end up trying any). Regarding the accommodation: Xiao Gao, Xiao Shi, and Xiao Qin at the front desk were incredibly helpful. The tatami in our room offered direct views of the Dang River, which was a huge bonus for the room. The only slight oddity was that the shower gel and shampoo were placed on the vanity, not directly in the shower stall. Regarding the food: The breakfast on the second floor was very ordinary, but the restaurant on the first floor offered incredible value for money! For our family, the dinner we had at the Hexi Corridor Hotel restaurant was the most satisfying meal of our entire Northwest trip!!! Although the price per dish was a few yuan more expensive than restaurants outside, the portion sizes and flavors made every penny worth it. I highly recommend the fried eggs with sand onion and the stir-fried lamb with scallions. The aunties working as servers in the restaurant were all very professional. I recommend that independent travelers staying at the hotel, who are tired from sightseeing, can just come back to the hotel and eat directly. Our family only found out on the second day that the hotel restaurant served dinner, and we regret not knowing sooner – if we had known, we would have eaten at the hotel for two consecutive days! 🤤 Oh, and the ginseng fruit sold at the small supermarket next to the hotel is delicious… don't miss it, everyone…"

"This was easily one of the most memorable stays during our trip to China. The camp is located right beside the stunning desert, offering breathtaking sunrise and sunset views. What impressed us most was how many activities were included for free. We enjoyed unlimited sandboarding on the dunes, a camel riding experience, and even had the chance to ride off-road motorcycles in the desert. Everything was well organized and suitable even for first-time visitors. The traditional Dunhuang-style dinner was delicious and gave us a great opportunity to experience local flavors. In the evening, we watched a wonderful bonfire party with live performances, and the spectacular molten iron fireworks show was absolutely amazing—something we had never seen before. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, making us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. The tents were comfortable, clean, and surprisingly well equipped considering the desert location. If you’re looking for a unique desert adventure that combines natural beauty, local culture, exciting activities, and excellent value for money, this is the perfect place. Out of our 9-day trip along the Qinghai-Gansu Loop, this homestay was our family's absolute favorite. It's a place with real heart and soul, where every detail is thoughtfully considered. Even our five-year-old said he'd give this hotel 30 stars! The homestay has a great design aesthetic, and the rooms are spotless, perfectly matching the tastes and ideas of younger travelers. We always bring our own disposable toiletries when we travel, but here, everything was already provided in the room. I also really loved the landlady – she's just one of those people you instantly like, and it was so comfortable interacting with her. From the moment we checked into the homestay in Dunhuang, we had such a positive impression of the city. Even though our stay was brief, it's full of beautiful memories. When we were leaving, she found out my child liked apricots and even gave him some from her own yard, which was incredibly touching. The breakfast offered a wide variety, and it was all very enjoyable. I truly recommend this homestay if you're coming to Dunhuang. I hope everyone gets to experience the genuine warmth and hospitality during their travels here. Their raisins are also highly recommended!

After a trip to Northern Xinjiang with friends, we stopped by Dunhuang. I booked the Dunhuang Zhongzhou International Hotel based on Ctrip's hotel rankings. After checking in, I just had to praise the hotel's service; it feels like every staff member embodies a service-oriented mindset. The hotel offers airport/station pick-up service, and after making a reservation a day in advance, a hotel staff member quickly got in touch. Upon arrival at the airport, I easily connected with the pick-up vehicle and arrived smoothly at the hotel. During check-in, a staff member thoughtfully offered us tea. On the evening of our check-in, we could enjoy a complimentary bowl of noodles at the hotel restaurant, which was perfect for dinner since we arrived quite late. Additionally, the hotel offers a free 'Late Night Porridge' supper from 9 PM to 11 PM for guests who need it. The room was clean and tidy, with plenty of bottled water. Each room comes with a foot bath bucket, and the bathroom has two large rolls of toilet paper, unlike the smaller ones found in other hotels. Plus, the bathroom is equipped with a laundry basket and a convenient drying rack. The hotel also has a free laundry room, which is handy for travelers. We stayed for two days and happened to experience a sandstorm, so the washing machine came in very useful when we got back in the evening. The hotel's location is convenient; it's not far from nearby attractions and the night market, and taxis are easily accessible. The hotel's breakfast is also excellent. Guests can purchase breakfast vouchers for 30 RMB if needed, and staff members always greet you promptly when you arrive at the restaurant. During check-out, the front desk staff proactively helped push our luggage to the hotel entrance and waited until our taxi arrived and we got in before leaving. This guesthouse is a hidden gem! 1. The location is super convenient, right at the west gate of Mingsha Mountain, just a 1-minute walk away. It was perfect for playing in the sand and attending the concert. 2. The desert-themed decor and furnishings are incredibly photogenic, and the hotel facilities are brand new, including smart toilets. They even have cute little kittens around! ☺ 3. It has a starry sky theme, and the owner gives amazing stargazing classes. The rooftop terrace is perfect for stargazing, and the owner even has a professional telescope. It's fantastic! 4. The breakfast is homemade by the owner. While simple, it's clean, hygienic, and tastes great. 5. The best part is the owner's service. The whole family is incredibly nice and hospitable. They helped us with our luggage, answered all of my child's astronomy questions, provided airport transfers, and even recommended local itineraries. It's just wonderful!

On a self-driving tour, I decided to stay here last minute and was pleasantly surprised! As soon as I turned into the parking lot, a staff member came over to guide me. They helped with my luggage every step of the way, and everyone I encountered greeted me proactively. The front desk gave me a sand protection neck gaiter and a voucher for congee in the evening. In the room, there were welcome snacks, yogurt, and plenty of water. They also provided free chargers and a humidifier. There's even a foot bath at the self-service laundry room, with disposable bath bags for hygiene. The breakfast was absolutely amazing, definitely 4-star+! So many varieties, better than many 4.7+ hotels in the city. They also offer shuttle service. I'll definitely be back!

This was my first stop in China and I’m so happy that I stayed in Dunhuang at Baibaili Hotel. I was looked after so well, the hospitality of the staff extended many times for several necessities and I’m touched by their hospitality. This will for a very long time, be my remarkable first impression of China, its people and their culture. The location is perfect if you want to stay a bit further out from town and enjoy the silence of being closer to the desert and the stunning design of the place. Beautiful and comfortable room, all the final touches refined every day and after 24 hrs of travelling; a generous fruit and snack plate that grounded me sweetly into Dunhuang upon arrival and farewelled me just after mid-autumn with a beautiful moon cake. I loved the Courtyard B&B. The rural but very chic style. My room was generous, furnishing in the same traditional style. Clean throughout The reception area very attractive and provides nice secluded spaces for relaxing- working in my case) under Bamboo trees and mandala decorated glasses of the ceiling. Very peaceful. I very much appreciated the presence of a kittens with mum and a little doggie which I perceived like mascotte of the place. They were very well maintained and cared of. The stuff is very nice and helpful and we were able to understand each others in some way. I highly recommend this accomodation both for holiday and work.

There were a lot of people in the hotel lobby on the night of check-in. The front desk said that they had received a study tour group of 500 people, which delayed the check-in time. To express their apology, the front desk gave me some souvenirs and promised to take me to the night market in the evening. They were really sincere and I could see that the service awareness came from the heart and was not forced through training.

I chose this hotel for my trip, and the room was thoughtfully furnished. The twin beds were very spacious, and two adults could comfortably stay in one room. The bedding was clean, pure white, soft and gentle on the skin, and provided just the right amount of support. After a long day of business travel, I could fall asleep immediately. The upholstered headboard was a thoughtful touch, preventing discomfort when using my phone at night. The placement of power outlets and switches was also very convenient, making charging and controlling the lights easy. The hotel's attention to detail was evident; the throw pillows and bed runner were stylishly coordinated, not the generic hotel furnishings, but rather a comfortable and inviting touch. There was also a lounge chair by the window, perfect for relaxing in the afternoon sun or enjoying a cup of tea. Cleanliness was impeccable. The sheets and duvet covers were spotless and odorless, the floors and surfaces were impeccably clean, and the bathroom was spotless and tidy, giving me peace of mind. The staff were also very attentive, checking me in quickly and patiently answering any questions. Overall, the service was excellent, making me feel very comfortable. It's very close to the museum and Crescent Lake, making it very convenient to get around and providing a great experience. Whether you're traveling for business or leisure, I highly recommend choosing this place!

This stay was absolutely delightful! I was initially worried about the location being a bit out of the way, so I only booked one night. To my surprise, getting a taxi on the first night was super easy, so we extended our stay. While there aren't other guesthouses right around ours, we noticed a whole street full of guesthouses nearby, which seemed crowded and noisy. At night, lying in bed, you can hear the wind brushing against the walls, but it's not loud; it actually feels like being in harmony with nature. My husband and I also went gold panning – if you find gold coins, you can exchange them for prizes. We went enthusiastically, expecting a small sandbox like in a park, but it was a massive area! **Mingsha Mountain View Afternoon Tea:** The chilled apricot peel tea was delicious. **Fengmingsha Desert Restaurant - 30% off coupon for set meals:** After we landed, the butler collected our luggage and told us hotpot was ready, just waiting for us to freshen up and eat. The boss was very enthusiastic. I contacted him one day in advance and waited for us at the station early the next morning. The accommodation was close to the East Gate. We said we were going to Crescent Lake and Mingsha Mountain. The boss took the initiative to drive us to the Middle Gate, saying that we could save 20 yuan on the shuttle bus fare. The next day, we signed up for a tour group to go out and play. The boss also sent us to the boarding point early in the morning. The boss was afraid that it would be inconvenient to go back after the Crescent Lake Music Festival, so he also came to pick us up, making our travel very convenient.
