Grids Premium Hotel Otaru ★★★★
"The hotel is in a great location, just a short walk from the Otaru Canal and the shopping street. There is also a convenience store right downstairs, which is very convenient. However, parking is quite limited, so it may be difficult if you’re traveling by car. The biggest downside is the bathroom. The toilet and shower are combined into a very small unit, making it feel cramped. The hairdryer is also quite weak and takes a long time to dry your hair. I also wasn’t impressed with the provided shampoo, conditioner, and body wash, so I’d recommend bringing your own toiletries if possible. Overall, the location is excellent, but the room amenities could be improved."
Otaru Kourakuen ★★★★
"An absolutely worthwhile night! The private onsen was high quality and the hotel offered great privacy. Both meals we had were delicious, and the service was excellent. The scenery was breathtaking. It was one of those places you never want to check out of. They even offered complimentary snacks upon departure, and the bar had a wide selection of food in the evening. Strolling in the snow after dinner was also beautiful."
Hotel Torifito Otaru Canal ★★★★
"The hotel is super convenient to the Otaru canal and walking distance to all other locations as well. The breakfast was great, will be better if the daily bf can be different dishes. Excellent to have a massage room service arrangement, appreciated much. And Also, they have gone extra mile to transfer my son's sweatpants to our Sapporo Hotel with an estimation delivery fee lower than they quoted as well. And we got it before check out too. We are very delighted and glad we have chosen Torifito Otaru Canal. Will come to the same hotel if we visit Hokkaido again."
Dormy Inn Premium Otaru Natural Hot Spring(Reopening on August 1, 2026) ★★★★
"The room was a bit small, and there were hairs on the towels. However, the hot spring was great; it's rare to find one like this in the city center. They also offered complimentary ramen, ice cream, and comics at night. The breakfast was quite luxurious for a business hotel, but we had to wait for a table."
Hotel Nord Otaru ★★★★
"Hotel is in an excellent location with views of the canal and the sea. Rooms are moderately big. Mechanised carpark is also very convenient. Highly recommended!"
OMO5 Otaru by Hoshino Resorts ★★★★
"Pretty hotel in otaru, good service and everthing"
Grand Park Otaru ★★★★
"Nice view and nice room"
Little Barrel ★
"This is a very clean hotel. The room we stayed in was a four-person room, but we only had two people, so the space felt huge. While everything was great, the only downside was the kitchen. Although it was small and beautiful, the ventilation after frying and stir-frying seemed poor, so the kitchen was filled with smoke, and we ended up smelling burnt from the kitchen. This was the only thing I found regrettable. However, check-in and check-out were very simple and convenient, and the room was kept very tidy and clean, making it a very comfortable place to stay. If you're only staying one night, I would recommend it."
Granbell Hotel Otaru ★★★★
"First, the cons: The room is really small, so much so that two slim people (1.6m tall) would barely fit. Once you open your luggage, there's absolutely no space to stand. Everything else is fine. The location is great, just a 5-minute walk from Otaru Canal. Behind the hotel is a shopping street, and convenience stores are just around the corner, with plenty of food and drink options. I highly recommend the rooftop bath. Don't bother showering in the tiny room; just head straight up there. You can enjoy the sauna, hot springs, and even an open-air bath. Watching the snow fall while you soak is truly beautiful. My child spent a long time happily building a snowman up there."

Otaru Asarigawa Onsen Hotel Musashitei
"Overall good. The breakfast is rich and recommended. Remember to book the hotel free bus in advance. It runs once a day at 9:30 in the morning to Otaru JR Station, which is very convenient. But I suggest that the first floor hot spring ♨️ would be more perfect if it provided facial cleanser, moisturizing water and body lotion."
Hotel Neu Schloss Otaru
"very impressed by their restaurant dinner service. old hotel with old times vibes but that’s the charm and we love it. private onsen was amazing. great hotel all around."
Winkel Village
"I booked the most expensive room, which cost over JPY80,500 per night. It had an open-air bath, but the bathtub was too small and the water was not hot, so I didn’t know how to use it. The entire house has two floors of usable space, and it is claimed to accommodate up to 7 people, but in fact the house is very small, with a total practical space of less than 50 square meters on the two floors, and there are only two toilets and one bathroom. There were 6 adults in total, and it was completely insufficient. We had to drive to a nearby large bathhouse to take a bath. In addition, the attitude of the waiters in this hotel is extremely bad. They always communicate via email in Japanese. When I reply to them in English, I only receive responses in Japanese. It feels like they are just trying to make money and have always made things difficult for customers with their service, which affected my holiday mood during my precious trip."
Home Yasuda
"The homey atmosphere was soothing and I was able to relax overnight. The next day, at breakfast, I was told about a restaurant (Prince Shotoku) that is popular among Otaru locals, and I was able to have a meaningful lunch."
Blue Hotel Nagi-Adult Only
"Breakfast included, perfect for those driving!"
Asarigawa Onsen Hotel
"The air in the hotel smells bad."
Tabist Kaihourou Otaru
"Far from hotel station , but can walk short to street market with steep way New inside old building front nice"
The Stay Yuki
"We were very surprised by how good this hotel was for the price. It is no frills, has no front desk staff, and seems more like an air bnb than a hotel. The room was massive and had everything we needed for a one night stay; I’d recommend this hotel for a large group staying in Otaru"
Hokkaido Zhu Jin Villa
"The house has a very traditional Japanese feel and is super clean. The bus stops right at the doorstep. The owner is Chinese and incredibly nice; they told us all about the local attractions and even offered to pick us up or drop us off when they had time. Highly recommend!"
Otaru Geihinkan
"Facing the sea The restaurant requires advance reservation"
SANGO
"It was one of the best accommodations of my travel life :)"
Ginrinsou
"Best hotel of my trip. The service was impeccable and the staff were so friendly and helpful. Everything is so thoughtful. The food was excellent and the room is huge. The onsen was awesome and looks beautiful"
Guesthouse Otaru Wanokaze
"The price is not low, but it is basically the most backward and ordinary hotel I have ever stayed in. Because the room is very crowded, it can only fit two single beds, and the toilet is shared and at the door, which is very inconvenient. The bathing is also shared, in the corridor, separated by men and women. There are no bath towels, you need to go to the front desk to buy them. The price of the hotel is basically no other living services except sleeping, all of which are charged. The boss is an old lady who is not very mobile, so it is quite troublesome to check in and check out, which is quite time-consuming. It is recommended that young people who like efficiency avoid pits. The only advantage is the retro style"
Pension Shadow Classe
"Small ski resort in 5 mins walk. Great value accommodation."
Otaru Retreat Kuramure by Onko Chishin
"Thumbs up! ! ! Superb environment and service! ! We arrived at the hotel later and the driver couldn't find the door and helped us find it, but after a while, a staff member ran down and asked if we had booked a room, really running! ! Then the driver parked the car, then helped us pick up our luggage, and ran up again! ! ! The service was so good that our whole family was stunned! ! Entering the hotel, the air conditioning is very good, because the outside is -10 degrees, but the interior is very warm, and not baked, so very comfortable, the room is not big, but with all the traditional Japanese room things, the furnishings are very beautiful, However, if the luggage is larger and more, it becomes very crowded, but actually feels like home. Because one night two meals, so there is a full dinner breakfast, are exquisite kaiseki cuisine, each meal also have staff to the room in advance to lead us to the restaurant, their own room, no one disturbed. The hot spring area has indoor and outdoor, not big, but enough, we soaked twice and did not bump into anyone, chartered, great! ! After check out, the staff bowed to not see our car! ! There is a traditional Japanese etiquette! ! ! We will definitely come back to experience this one! ! !"
