⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ We had an amazing stay at +81OTARU Homestay! The property is exceptionally clean, beautifully maintained, and located right in the heart of the city, making it easy to explore all of Otaru’s attractions. It offers all the amenities you could need for a comfortable stay, and everything was thoughtfully arranged. Considering the quality, location, and facilities, it is also very reasonably priced and offers excellent value for money. We would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Otaru!

Pros: Staff were friendly and helpful. Villa was very well kept, with excellent views of the ocean. Pleasantly surprised by complimentary puddings and drinks. Manual grinder and coffee beans were a nice touch. Cons: Unable to drive directly to the villa due to safety policy. This made loading/unloading luggage very inconvenient. The walk to the carpark required negotiating a slippery gravel slope, which was even more dangerous in low-light conditions. Recommend to improve this with proper stairs or paved pathway.

March 21, 2026 This is a stunning little seaside hotel. It's about a 20-minute train ride from Otaru Station to Shioya Coast. There are really no restaurants nearby, so when I contacted the hotel in advance, they highly recommended I book their special Japanese-French dinner. The basic price was 8,800 yen per person. Since I was already there, I decided to go all out and ordered the premium set with two extra appetizers for 14,300 yen. I also added two glasses of wine, one Hokkaido-produced and one American, for a little over 2,000 yen. The restaurant, with its breathtaking ocean views, truly delivered an amazing emotional experience. The wind and waves were incredibly strong and it was super cold that evening; the weather was a bit overcast. Our room had a small balcony where we could open the door and sit to watch the sea. The room itself was quite spacious, with a sofa. The pillow was half soft and half buckwheat, so I ended up only using the firm buckwheat side. The mattress was just right, not too soft and not too hard, which was great for my back. Since it was my birthday month, after contacting them in advance, they gave me a beautifully handwritten birthday card. It was a truly touching experience.

The location is quite nice, just a 10–15 minute walk to the main shopping street. The hotel uses a self-service check-in system, but the process is straightforward and not difficult at all. The room is surprisingly spacious, with a kitchen and laundry area, which was very convenient. However, the bed sheets and bedding are quite old, so it would be great if the owner could consider replacing them with new ones. The main issue during our stay was the gas canisters stored right in front of the entrance. I understand that they may be necessary for heating or other purposes, especially during the harsh winter. However, unfortunately, the gas smell got into our room, which made it uncomfortable and difficult to sleep. We had to keep the window open throughout the night to reduce the smell. I would strongly recommend that the owner consider storing the gas canisters somewhere else, away from the entrance and guest rooms. I think this would significantly improve both the comfort and safety of the stay.

This was truly an unforgettable experience: staying in a traditional Japanese ryokan. The moment I saw the entrance, I was amazed – it felt just like something out of an anime! The elderly hosts were incredibly kind. We happened to visit during Otaru's Snow Light Festival, so other ryokans in the area were quite expensive. This place offered good value for money, especially since my two friends and I shared a room. Inside, it's a standard Japanese inn. A nice touch was that the hosts provided a bucket of hot water daily, perfect for tea or instant noodles. The public bath closes at 11 PM, but if you return late, the hosts will kindly keep the door open for you until you've finished bathing. Coming back from sightseeing to a hot bath was absolutely blissful! The heating in the room was also fantastic; I felt like I could do laundry and it would dry overnight. Breakfast was a little different from what I expected. I'd seen reviews mentioning seafood bowls and such, but during my two-day stay, it was more on the simple side. It gave me a taste of what a traditional Japanese breakfast is truly like, and it was quite hearty. Overall, it was a very satisfying experience!

A small place to stay Not far from tourist attractions The host was very nice and came to welcome when I arrived. Various appliances are provided I really like the soap and shampoo here. If possible if I visit Otaru I will stay here again. But about parking, I'm not sure if there's only one parking space. If interested, you can inquire with the owner of the room.

Bathroom facilities on trip.com description there's towel so I thought like the usual 1 free but on the site, the staff said no free towel at all and need to pay 200 yen. You should update Bathroom facilities (scratch the towel amenity) Other than that, it is very great hostel, biggest shared bathroom I ever see (all 3 toilet, wastafel and shower room in one) And very good facilities, though it's a bit inconvenience if you have room at 2nd floor (elevator will stop at 3rd floor if going up, so you will go to 3nd then 2nd)

I chose this guesthouse for its proximity to the train station and great value for the money, and I'm so glad I did! Even though it's a bit far from Sapporo city, the short 2-minute walk to the train station made getting around a breeze. The unit had everything I needed, including a washing machine and cooking essentials, which really made my stay comfortable. I definitely plan to book this guesthouse again for my next winter trip!

Advantages: The natural environment is good, the surrounding green waters and green mountains, the air is fresh, and the stars can be seen at night. Disadvantages: far from the city, there is a large hotel around the hotel that can provide catering services. There is no hair dryer in the room, no pot for boiling water (the hair dryer is shared at the front desk, and there is a water dispenser for boiling water in the corridor). There is no table in the room, it is not convenient to put things. The room type provided is different from the description of Trip.com (no sofa).

Pro: Nice looking apartment, spacious for family of 4. Carpark lot was provided for the guest. Easy to check-in Walking distance to the otaru canal Cons: There was urine stench inside the toilet. I had to clean the toilet seat and around it unfortunately the smell still remained. Secondly, we can smell cigarette at the living room in the morning as we believed that there was a guest smoking g from upstairs or downstairs.
