The Japanese traditional Ryokan with large garden.Renewed in 2016.

We absolutely loved this ryokan experience! Stayed for 2d1n as a couple and absolutely loved the place! We booked the room with the private onsen and it was a lovely small space on the 2nd floor we could enjoy privately. The onsen is not too big, maybe 1.5 x 1.5 meters, but it was spacious for the two of us. We also found out that you can book a 45 minute slot for a separate private onsen for about ¥2200, which we may have done instead, had we known about it before booking. The japanese-style room was comfortable and had the usual amenities provided, alongside other nice additions like lotions and creams. The staff helped us to set up our futon (japanese-style bed) after dinner, and it was overall a very comfortable experience. The staff are super friendly and service was incredible.
We got the dinner and breakfast package and the food was excellent. We had to choose both the dinner slot in advance, and it is first-come-first-serve. Dinner was served to us in the room over 1.5h and was a really amazing 12-course meal with instructions on the eating order. Breakfast was more standard, but still nice, we took it in the dining hall.
The lounge is open till 10pm and we could take drinks and refreshment freely, including some small snacks and soft drinks. But they stop serving beer at 9pm. The onsens also have mini-fridges with free popsicles. There is also an outside area you can access from 3pm - 9pm that serves hot coffee and wine, with free marshmallows you can roast on the outside firepit. It was really nice.
The garden is by far the nicest part of the hotel, it is really big and well decorated, with many nice places for photos and to enjoy a hot drink from the lounge. The space is quite large and might take about 20 minutes to fully explore.
The only downside I can think of is that the location is quite hard to access. We chose to get to and from the ryokan by taxi, but there is also a shuttle bus service, from what I understand. When we arrived, the reception told us that there would be a shuttle bus leaving at 10:45 to Otaruchikko station. We still ended up requesting a taxi from the front desk though, which they were happy to help us book (I couldn't get any taxis by cab in the location).
Overall a really amazing stay that we would absolutely recommend. The price tag might seem high for a ”3 star” hotel, but the ranking is deceptive, we absolutely had a 5 star experience. Cheers!

I booked a dbl room during winter trip and didn't want to haul my luggage in the freezing snow. Very convenient and literally acrosss the street from otaru station. Room is a bit old and small but I don't mind. Bathroom is clean. Towel is clean. Pillow is a bit small. Onsen was great. Lobby served fresh grounded coffee all day and night. 1 min walk to Lawson for late night cravings.

The staff at the reception speaks fluent English, which is good. Sth dramatic happened after I checked in. Somehow my suitcase cannot be unlocked, though I knew the key number. So I had to call reception for help, luckily they do have the tool to open the suitcase, but I was told to wait because someone else were using it and I was supposed to be called after the reception got the tool. Waited whole night long, with no phone call, and had to check out the next morning with my broken suitcase. So if you find your suitcase cannot be opened, go find reception immediately or u might not get the chance to use the tool, haha

This is a great hotel smack bang in the centre of Otaru, close to everything you need. The service was prompt and the hotel room nicely designed. The lights were lovely. Our favourite part was the outdoor onsen on the roof top which could get quite popular even at low season. Don't know how it would work in high season. Great value for money. Room had a good view too!

Very nice hotel, the lobby is big and nice, allow us to check in at 2 pm. There are some reception staff that can speak mandarin as well. We booked a room for 3 people with 3 single beds. The room is bigger than expected and the washroom is more spacious as compared to others I have stayed in before.
Pros is near the Otaru Canal, from the hotel just walk straight all the way will reach Otaru canal. Opposite the hotel there is a Lawson, convenient to buy stuff.
Cons is slightly far away from JR station and you will need to walk about 10 mins.

It says there is a shuttle bus and you need to call to book it, but the front desk can't speak Chinese or English. How can I book it? Did Ctrip cooperate blindly without understanding the actual situation? The room is very dark and the layout is very depressing. It is very suitable for shooting horror movies. The environment nearby is good. You can live in the city. It is cheap and comfortable. You can take a taxi to take pictures in the morning, or take the bus.

I stayed here on a trip with my girlfriend whom I hadn't seen in a long time.
We came by car from Sapporo, and it was close to Otaru city, so there was a parking lot and it was easy to access.
My first impression was that it was luxurious for the price, and for a moment I thought I had come to the wrong hotel.
The room we stayed in was on the top floor, the 8th floor, and it was clean and had a great view.
For dinner, we had the 2,800 yen sashimi set meal.
Everything was fresh and delicious.
I was impressed by the garnish (like collagen) that I had never seen before.
There were two types of hot springs, and the open-air bath was especially good, but
There was only enough space for two people to sit, both inside and outside, so it was disappointing that there was no place to relax after the sauna.
In the end, there were so many people that I couldn't sit down after the cold bath, so I just sat in the area to wash my body.
I wish they had more chairs.
My trip with my girlfriend became a good memory.
Thank you.
A space that stimulates the spirit of travel, where the romance of the Taisho era and the Reiwa era intersect.
This is the second directly managed accommodation facility by Tabist.
We welcome you to the mansion built by the second generation of shipping magnate Itaya Miyakichi of Itaya Shosen, who once served as a member of the House of Peers and mayor of Otaru.
In addition to a large public bath on the top floor, all rooms are 35 square meters in size and equipped with a bathtub with separate toilet and bath.
It is conveniently located just up the hill from Sakaimachi Street, the main street of Otaru City.
It is about a 15-minute walk or 5-minute taxi ride from Otaru Station, and offers a relaxing stay that can be used as a hideaway or a second home when visiting Otaru. From the top of the hill, you can see the Otaru Port, which stimulates your sense of travel.

It seems that there is no cleaning service. We stayed for 3 days and saw a pack of replaced towels at the door every day. Breakfast is also relatively single, breakfast for three days is exactly the same...

LLee Lei LengThe hotel is very conveniently located, just across the canal, just a short walk across the street, and close to Otaru Pedestrian Street. There are private hot springs that can be rented for 2,500 yen each time, and reservations must be made in advance with the hotel. The private hot spring is indoors and fully equipped. This time I booked a Japanese-style room with a private bathtub. It is worth mentioning that the water in the bathtub is all hot spring water, so you can soak in the hot spring in the room. The hotel staff provided very good service, and also helped with luggage and taxis, etc. The service was very good. Next time I come, I will choose this hotel to stay.
YYUKA.JUnwind Hotel & Bar Otaru is a boutique hotel renovated from a historic building. It combines a classic atmosphere with modern comfort. The unique design and atmosphere will soothe your fatigue. The rooms have high ceilings and are equipped with amenities such as refrigerators and wine glasses. Organic amenities and cotton pajamas are a great touch.
You can enjoy free wine at the bar from 17:00 to 18:30. The Niagara wine was sweet and delicious. The wines available change depending on the season, so we enjoyed Niagara, Otaru, and Chilean wines.
The breakfast menu is also high quality, featuring local ingredients. Everything was delicious, but the croque monsieur and scones were especially recommended. You can have as many scones as you like. The coffee and tea are also high quality and delicious. The hotel staff are also very friendly. It was a very comfortable hotel, not too formal or too relaxed. The hotel is close to Otaru's main tourist attractions, making it a convenient location for sightseeing.
AAlexxMixxFantastic location overlooking the canals in Otaru.
Best thing about the hotel was having a separate bathroom and a separate toilet… Especially useful when travelling with families!
Gorgeous stained glass window and you can see the amazing sunset from the top floor as well
Reception was large and the front desk folk were very friendly and helpful.
Overall would highly recommend this hotel

KKangsterGood location next to Aeon mall, inter connected so as not to walk in the open in harsh weather. Nice, clean room with lovely Ocean view. Good breakfast spread and friendly staff. Will stay again if in Otaru.
ZZLStayed at Sho Inn for 1 night in Otaru. It’s a little out of the way from the Otaru station if you do not drive, but they offer shuttle service to the Otaru Canal and Otaru station when you check out! The host Hideshi was incredibly kind, even going the extra mile to bring my neck pillow, which I had accidentally left in the accommodation after check out, to the Otaru station at my preferred time that evening. It was a gesture testament of the great hospitality of the Japanese. Would definitely recommend this place especially if you’re a solo traveller / prefer your own private space instead of going to those hostels with double deckered beds and curtains!
SShek LunWe love this hotel, overall everything was so good. Everything is digital and chic.
I believe Hoshino Resorts is really setting up a good standard.
The only thing I would complain is the car park, limited space right outside of the hotel only. There is a car park next door but it was very icy and during our stay so we had a rough time moving the luggage to the hotel. It would have been nice, if we know this in advance.
LluxbabyYou can stay cheaply during the peak season in Hokkaido.
Parking is free, which is especially good for those traveling by rental car.
You can think of the interior as a caravan without a kitchen.
It's a bit cold on winter nights.
However, if you keep the heater on, it's fine.
GGuest UserThe room is very clean and convenient to check in. The bedding is all baby-grade, soft and delicate. The Japanese pajamas prepared for guests are especially comfortable and authentic. The toiletries are all Japanese Pola brands. Simple Japanese meals can be prepared. It is only 150 meters away from a 24-hour supermarket. Shopping and food are very convenient, and all kinds of seafood are discounted after 8 pm every day. Highly recommended!
GGuest UserWe used it for 4 women. It was an apartment type room, so I was able to taste the feeling of living together. The room was clean and large and very good.
I went in mid March, but the beetle came out of the room, and four women were unable to catch anyone and asked the delivery person to take it.
It was great except for the beetle. Now it is also an interesting memory. laughter
It may be difficult on the traffic side because it is on the slope, but if you have a car, you can afford it at all. It may be lost because there is no receptionist for check-in out, but it was okay to confirm the contents sent.
CclumsyEAWe were given another place called second house green with private bath and kitchen due to overbooking. However, the first floor was a bit and the shower wasn’t that good. Water was not hot enough even adjusted to 60 degrees and was rather weak.
It’s hard to find the house green as well and was only informed the access code after a while. But check out time was good. Beware of the snow as our car was buried in snow the next day.
