Review: Stay Home This trip was like an encounter with prehistoric man and a case study of a failed business combined. If you book a standard room, you will be taken away from the five star reception area to another building which has the decor and standards of a thirty year old hotel. Faded carpets, peeling walls, smelly interiors, uncleaned floors and rooms which are impossible to heat. But it was just about liveable, in that it had a bed and hot water. What totally failed to impress were the amenities. We'd come for the children's stuff, the little zoo, water park and others. The price of these are not included in the hotel, and for each experience they charge adults and baby to the tune of 80rmb, meaning you will spend quite a bit to use it all. As soon as I saw the children's rides I became depressed, they were rusting and looked murderous, as if the nuts and bolts would be dislodged and explode fatally in all directions if a kid shook too heavily on the things. To even use anything suggested you'd become unclean as well. Then you attempt to ask staff something but stop when you realise how futile it would be to address someone with one eye in its forehead and the other in its chin, with their peers boasting similarly fascinating facial misalignments. An hour of that and we wanted to leave, including our baby. She would have been much happier at home playing with her toys, or rather just happy at home doing anything than being at the Nirvana resort. Anyway, the swimming pool is not free either, they will charge you 58 a person including child. When I went to ask about a swim, staff were downright stunned I'd walked in to ask such a question, watching as I entered and left with hillbilly intensity and incomprehension. You can see the park had a lot of money invested in it before, way back in the misty past, but I can't see them recouping their losses. The resort is a grab money scheme with separate interests taking care of, or neglecting, what is on offer. I can't see them attracting a moneyed middle class without a total overhaul. On the plus side, my wife and I did have a good laugh about how bad it was and the fact we'd packed for a few days in expectation of a holiday, but found ourselves cancelling after an hour. The reception was helpful with this and refunded our money. The staff are well meaning in a vacuous kind of way, going about their duties as the whole place drops about them, broken lifts, falling plaster, water leaks and all. But to be sincerely positive, the gardens are pleasant along with the lake and ducks.

Beijing Wtown
A big compliment to this establishment. This whole place makes sense from A to Z. It has to be said that we are both trained hospitality people, with many years of experience in 5 Star properties, so our eyes are often over critical. Here, near to nothing which is missing, which is in wrong places or what we could complain about. The design and the function of the room is near to perfect, very clean, well furnished, all necessities available. It is just a joy to stay in that room, from the bed, daybed, hot water spring bath, really thought of everything. A perfect nest for a romantic stay. As we went in winter as well the room temperature was very agreeable, and there were a second heater, in case it would be too cold. There were some comments that you could walk up to the wall within 20 minutes, we took about the double and were pretty much out of breath, arriving there. But the walk is just wonderful and you have the nature all for yourself, only up the wall we met two other people. This place is highly recommendable. The staff is doing a fantastic job, and the overall quality is well worth the price. Btw the dinner we had was as well delicious.

♡ A Magical Experience ♡ We had an incredible stay at the Beijing Wtown Resort (古北之光度假酒店), a luxurious property nestled in the scenic Gubei Water Town. The hotel’s unique W-shaped design added a modern yet elegant charm to the resort. The property was impeccably spotless, spacious, and offered 5-star service throughout our visit. Our room was a highlight, offering a direct view of the Great Wall of China—a breathtaking sight that made waking up each morning truly unforgettable. Another standout feature was the free access to the nearby hot spring, conveniently located just steps from the hotel. It was the perfect way to unwind and relax after exploring the town. The staff at the hotel were outstanding, and a special mention must go to Ms. Yang LiJun (杨利君小姐), who went above and beyond to ensure our stay was seamless and enjoyable. She assisted us with every aspect of our visit, from ensuring our accommodations were perfectly arranged to organizing a memorable Christmas Eve dining experience. Ms. Yang even went out of her way to help with our transportation back to Beijing City, which was particularly thoughtful given the distance from Gubei Town. Her warm hospitality, attention to detail, and professionalism truly stood out, leaving us with a lasting impression of her exceptional service. In summary, the Beijing Wtown Resort exceeded all expectations with its stunning design, luxurious amenities, and dedicated staff. We are deeply grateful to Ms. Yang for her efforts in making our stay truly special. This resort is a gem, and we look forward to returning in the future.

We had an amazing staycation at this hotspring resort. I was very impressed with the customer service we recieved. Everyone was incredibly kind and went out of their way to help. The staff has clearly had 5 star training. I would like to make particular note of Mr. Lee at the front desk. Upon check-in, he served us and acknowledged that not all the staff spoke English and that we should contact him directly over Wechat if we needed anything. On several occassions I contacted him and he was prompt and curtious. He was a great ambassador for the hotel. For example, room service forgot chicken on on salad, and he promptly pologized and arranged for two new compelmentary salads to be sent (i believe this was an oversight as the hotel was very busy with a special chiristmas dinner that night). It is common in Beijing for hotel staff not to speak English, however we did found several memebers of staff that did. For example. when we went to the dining hall, they sent an English speaker over to help us. Further, the dining hall manager checked in with us and personally cleared plates away. Buffet breakfast was above average with western and chinese food. Also, when ordering room service, though they did not speak English, they sent someone to our room with a menu so that we could point to the items we wanted. Overall, the hotel is new and to Western standards of cleanliness and quality. Beds and pillows were comfortable. We were with my 2 month old baby and my 85 year old father, all generations enjoyed our time. The hot springs were very clean (not always the case in China) and they were alongside swimming pools with kids climbing apparatice and water ball pit. It was also nice that there were complementary refreshments (snacks and drinks) at the hot springs. In the winter air, the outdoor hotsprings were great. Finally., though it wasnt a huge attraction, its nice to see the lammas, chicken and horses. Overall, I could not recommend this place more. I will defintely stay again.

I spent a weekend with my friends and their families. The hotel and the hot spring are connected, which is very convenient. The advantage is that there are not many people in the hot spring, there are many pools to choose from, it is very relaxing to soak in a bath, and the swimming pool is big enough. The service is very good. Whether it is the breakfast restaurant or the hot spring, I met very warm people. The breakfast restaurant manager prepared a meal package for the children. Wang Fang, the manager of the hot spring, and the staff Zhang Suli and Miao Shikuo are all very caring and friendly to the children. Big thumbs up! But there are still some dissatisfactions. The overall facilities are relatively old, and the wallpaper, tables and chairs in the house need to be renovated. The bathroom is big enough, but the sewer, shower head, and hair dryer are not perfect. Replacing them is definitely a cost, but it will make the guest experience better. The breakfast pancake is a highlight, but the details are still lacking. For example, the noodles come out of the completely tasteless clear soup, and you have to add the stew yourself, but the stew is cold, and it is full when it comes out. Where is the stew added? Coffee and milk, these middle-aged breakfast essentials, can be upgraded to a higher level. The fitness center has a large gym and the table tennis table is new enough, but the table tennis rackets are hard to describe. If the details are done well, I might consider going there again in the future! Overall, it was a great weekend!

Love this resort! We stayed for one night to visit Mutianyu Great Wall - definitely recommended doing it this way than driving in one day from Beijing. Resort is beautifully designed to blend with the surroundings, photos don’t do it justice! Our room had a view of the Great Wall which was amazing! Rooms are nicely furnished with great little touches (eye mask, extra heaters, fruits, roasted chestnuts:). Breakfast was a al carte in their bistro and it was very well prepared. You can also have drinks or free tea/coffee during the day. We had a dinner in the Vietnamese restaurant in their sister resort next door, another beautifully designed place, food ok. Hotel service was great (esp. Stanley), they offered free drop off and pick from the Mutianyu entrance (use WeChat to call for pick up). Also, they gave us free tix for art & architecture museum in the village - 5-10 mins walk, do visit if you can, museum is very contemporary, again great design, but still somehow sits nicely in this sweet village. Getting to resort with DiDi was painless, about CNY230 one way (premium car), about 80mins.

My husband and I had a lovely stay at the resort as it was our wedding anniversary, the hotel provided us a big bouquet which was very gentle. The communication was quite challenging as they only speak Chinese but Feng Bo, which was the person doing our check-in, was very patient and tried his best to understand and please us. He showed us few options as we were considering upgrading to another room and there are some huge ones, in the end we decided to stay with the ”mountain view” and just asked for an upper floor. Breakfast was quite good, many Chinese options (fried noodles, fried rice, a variety of Chinese buns, porridge, vegetables) also toast with jam, fruits, juices and iogurt, we liked it. There are reduced hours for lunch and dinner so you should plan in advance and menus in Chinese (which again Feng Bo offered to explain and translate if we needed help). We felt very welcome, the hotsprings are great and both resort and hotsprings are fully staffed with caring and friendly people. Nanshao subway is maybe 15 minutes from there, you can get a Didi. The room is just like the pictures.

The location is very good, 200 meters to the entrance of the scenic spot.

This hotel is a small germ if you consider your stay at Beijing. Yes, it is a bit outside of the main city but the traffic connections towards the inner parts of Beijing is still reasonable. It is a rather quiet place to have a couple of days with the focus on relaxing when you have only a few things to do in Beijing. The set-up with a kind of traditional house structure - only two floors, square shaped outlying of the building, provides a rather friendly and easy to go feeling. The facilities are well maintained and the fountains in the central yard provide a nice addition together with the hot spring tubes. The surrounding of the artificial lake provides a nice atmosphere. Some visitors may regret that the area surrounding the hotel does not offer much. The stuff are well trained and carry out their tasks with the friendliness expected from a hotel at this level. I summary, I do not hesitate to recommend this hotel for a couple of relaxing days if you have to stay in Beijing and do not have a busy schedule at the same time.
