Capella Sydney

9.6/10
Amazing

They say Australian hotels have bad service, and I experienced this first-hand. Even at a 5-star hotel, the mini-bar was constantly forgotten during daily cleanings in both rooms I booked, which were on different floors. Also, during breakfast, genuinely friendly staff were few and far between. Out of all the days I stayed, only two female staff members greeted guests with a smile. On April 5th, the front desk was manned by a male attendant in a brown suit, with a brush cut and a beard. My parents arrived before me, so he gave them three English menus. When I arrived, I asked him for a Chinese menu. He said 'okay,' but I waited for a very long time, and he never brought it. During this time, I asked two other staff members about it. I told them I needed a Chinese menu, and they both said 'okay,' but none of them brought it to me. I waited for a very, very long time! I couldn't wait any longer, so I took an English menu myself and went to the front desk to exchange it. As I walked towards the front desk, the same male attendant with the brush cut and beard also walked over. I then told the female attendant at the front desk that I needed a Chinese menu. The male attendant then came over and *actually said* he was also looking for a Chinese menu 🙄. In reality, menus in various languages are usually available at the front desk. And normally, when they check guests in, they ask what language they prefer and provide the appropriate menu. The staff on duty that day hadn't placed Chinese menus on the counter and then delayed providing them when guests asked. I don't want to bring up 'discrimination against Chinese people,' but the attitude of prioritizing foreign guests while neglecting Chinese guests is unacceptable. I will absolutely never choose Capella again!

The hotel's location is fantastic, right above Wynyard Station on the airport line, making it a quick 20-minute journey. It's also within walking distance to famous attractions and great restaurants. The decor is modern and stylish, and the place is very clean. The service was exceptional; Crystal at the front desk checked us in and thoughtfully informed us about the complimentary water, coffee, tea, and co-working space available upstairs. Our room was tidied promptly and kept clean daily. My only minor gripe is that getting in and out of the bed was a bit inconvenient for the person sleeping on the inside. Overall, highly recommended!

Sofitel Sydney Wentworth

I stayed at two Sofitels in Sydney during my Australia trip, and because I was so satisfied with the Sofitel Darling Harbour, I decided to book this downtown Sofitel after returning from Cairns. However, this turned out to be the biggest mistake of my two-week trip. The hotel mainly uses self-check-in, with two counters in a corner for manual service. Check-in went smoothly enough, but the moment I opened my room door, I was stunned. The room was not the standard type I booked; it was tiny. I wasn't expecting a fancy view, but at least they shouldn't have given me the worst room in the hotel – the only internal-facing room on each floor, facing a large exhaust fan, and on the lowest floor! I couldn't help but wonder if I had offended someone. I called to request a room change and was told that the room type I booked was fully occupied for the night, with only a 'special room type' left on the 11th floor (a room designed for guests with disabilities). I said, 'Alright, at least it's a standard room.' So I started waiting for someone from the hotel to show me the room, but after nearly 10 minutes, no one came. Meanwhile, I noticed that the room type I originally booked was available on various platforms. So I went directly to the front desk to change rooms, and this time it was resolved smoothly. Finally, I was assigned the room type I had reserved. Although the room wasn't large, it certainly looked like a standard 5-star room. Another thing I have to complain about is the hotel's front office service (excluding the concierge), which was practically non-existent. The so-called 'brand standard' clearly didn't apply to them. 1. There was no apology whatsoever for assigning such a bad room, and no genuine effort to resolve the issue. 2. I called for two forks, but by the time I checked out the next day, there was no sign of them. I've stayed in many 5-star hotels globally, and the housekeeping service here was arguably the most disappointing. The breakfast, however, was quite good. While it's true, as other guests have mentioned, that there's often a long queue, we were seated quickly on the day we went. The breakfast selection was rich, and although the overall service efficiency wasn't very high, I considered it quite good for this hotel.

Stamford Plaza Sydney Airport Hotel & Conference Centre

I chose to stay here because I had an early morning flight the next day. I arrived at the hotel close to midnight, and the staff said I could pay $50 for early check-in. I felt $50 was a bit steep for just two extra hours, so I declined. There's a large supermarket and a food court about a 15-minute walk from the hotel, and the Thai food there was pretty good. The room was reasonably clean, but the facilities were old. The biggest issue was the lack of complimentary bottled water. A bottle of water that sells for $2 at the supermarket costs $5 in the room, which is really unacceptable for a hotel of this caliber. Also, you can walk to the hotel from T2 and T3 terminals in about 20 minutes, but it's further from T1 (international terminal), requiring a shuttle bus. The $12 per person fee is a bit expensive; if it were free, I think more people would choose to stay at this hotel.

Sydney Harbour Marriott Hotel at Circular Quay

I booked a room with a view of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, but when I checked in, all I saw were buildings right opposite my window when I opened the curtains. I had to stand to the side of the window to barely catch a glimpse of the bridge. This was completely different from the photos when I booked, and I feel scammed and very disappointed. Also, the breakfast selection was extremely limited; I almost didn't want to eat there on the second morning.

The room was spotless and very comfortable. The hotel's location is excellent, with easy access to transportation, making getting around a breeze. The most pleasant surprise was the night view from the window – the wide-open vista and sparkling city lights were delightful, day or night. The overall environment was quiet, and the service was attentive. It was a very satisfying stay, highly recommended.

The hotel is great overall, this the really good location that you just 1 mins walk to Green Square Station, 2 stop by Central. Hotel is really convenient, they having washing machine and dryer, microwave and most of the thing like a small apartment. Recommend this hotel

The hotel ticks a lot of boxes, clean modern rooms, pool and steam room, and in the best location, very central over looking the beach. The hotel has just had a refurbishment, very tidy with a good bar and restaurant on the ground floor. Only slight negative, front dest - check in could be better and a bit more friendly. If you want to stay in Manly, this hotel is your best choice, the other main hotel is way down at the end of the beach.

The Langham, Sydney

We had a brilliant experience at the Langham for our wedding anniversary! I forgot how much I like the Langham brand. From the pink ribbon around the toilet paper to the sleep ammenities (we asked for the sleep pillow mist and the room diffuser) to the suggested third eye massage technique and the chamomile tea before bedtime, we felt totally pampered and taken care of. Reservation was made for our celebratory dinner with fine steak dinner over the fantastic view of the Opera House. In room breakfast was delivered on time and the quantity copious. The Spanish bell boy was helpful and friendly. We were also upgraded to a harbour view room to our delight. Location was convenient to walk either to Barangaroo or the Rocks, for ferry ride or metro. Very pleased to have chosen The Langham, it was absolutely the right decision for us!

Very nice view from our room widows. There are full of different types restaurants on the ground floor. But If you close the window, the sound proof is excellent which I typically want to recommend. Stuffs are friendly and helpful, willing to give you recommendations if you are first-time visitors. They even wrote a welcome card. They have a ballroom here just opposite the reception, holding different personal events every night. I like the vibe which means it's popular place and safe. The hotel is friendly to those who travel with dogs. They have special bed and food for dogs. But we didn't need it and the dog net door barked very early in the morning. We were OK with it. At the other aspect, the hotel goes too much. The breakfast is allllll for vegetarians. Yes, all. As a guest, you are left with no choice. This is the only point that I particularly hate. Be whatever you like, just don't push others to do the something, especially when you are running a business.
