I chose this hotel for the convenience of my IELTS exam the following morning, and it truly is very close to the test center, less than a 10-minute walk away. Since I only needed a place for one night, I booked a small room. To my surprise, even this compact room had a small desk, perfect for studying. It really lives up to the saying 'small but perfectly formed'. The room overall was also spotlessly clean. Although the bathroom facilities were a bit dated, they were very clean and had no unpleasant odors. The soundproofing wasn't the best, as I could hear people talking outside the door, but thankfully it was quiet at night, so it didn't disturb my sleep. The air conditioning worked wonderfully and kept the room very cool. Overall, it offers excellent value for money. The only minor drawback was the lack of disposable slippers.

A budget accommodation near Huaqiangbei. The location allows you to experience the lively atmosphere of Huaqiangbei even late at night. The best part was having a washing machine and detergent available for personal use. However, since there’s a washing machine, many long-term foreign workers also stay here. Around 5 a.m., I was woken up by men—possibly South Asian or Middle Eastern—shouting and talking loudly in the hallway. That’s partly their fault, but the rooms also have no soundproofing at all. On top of that, cigarette smoke kept drifting in, which was unpleasant.
If you just need a place to crash after staying out late, it’s okay for that purpose. But don’t expect real comfort beyond that. Oh, and you’ll definitely need earplugs—though even with them, you’ll still hear a lot of noise.
