"This was a charming hotel which had served Einstein and Helen Keller! Hotel is situated right next to the Shinkyou Bridge and within walking distance to the Toshogu Shrine. I enjoyed my stay there."

Nikko Station Hotel Classic

📍 3-1 Aioicho, Nikko
★★★ 8.9 (171 reviews)

"Convenient place. It’s just a 5min walk from the Tobu Nikko station (the station you would arrive in if you rode over from Asakusa). It’s a premium stay that has a public bath. In the rooms you have even lotions and face washes and overall the hotel feels very new. The breakfast that comes with the stay is decent. Had vege curry with rice, hard boiled eggs, salad, bread with jam, fresh milk.  It’s very near the bus station that takes you to most sightseeing areas in Nikko. You should find out about their busses at the tourist information center because the busses are not registered in Google maps!"

"Looks like a brand new hotel! You can use the kitchen on the ground floor - coffee machine, oven, micro wave, ice, and a table to eat. Just didn’t like the bathing area with see through glass door."

📍 Matsubarachō, 17-4, Nikko
★★★ 9.2 (237 reviews)

"Choosing this hotel for our trip to Nikko was a great decision. The price was perfect for someone on a regular budget. The hotel was clean, and its location near Tobu Nikko Station was fantastic, about 300 meters if you follow the right navigation. My navigation kept changing directions after I got off the train, so I had to ask a local shop owner for directions, and then it was easy to find. Just walk a few steps down the small road past the post office, and you're there. The hotel offers free breakfast to all guests, and it's quite good! The room was clean, and the view from the window was lovely, with mountains and clouds, very picturesque! There's also a large supermarket across the street where you can buy delicious and reasonably priced sashimi."

"Do not ever stay in this hotel! I will give 0 star if 0 is available. 1stly, the hotel is far from station and the surroundings are in pitch dark if you check in abit later or go out to eat dinner. There is practically nothing in the vicinity. Super super unsafe. Secondly, the check-in is a big joke. Tried the given PIN number, didn’t work. Had to call the hotel hotline, got the PIN number, also didn’t work. And they expect us to stand there in pitch dark to wait to retry again. Seeing how unsafe the vicinity is, we gave up n went to check in another hotel, Nikko Park Lodge Hotel - abit old but just opposite the station, so convenient. Sorry but Rakuten stay is huge no no."

The Ritz-Carlton, Nikko Hotels in Nikko

The Ritz-Carlton, Nikko

"During the recent three-day autumn foliage season, rooms in Nikko were extremely difficult to book, especially balcony rooms with views of Nantaiyama and Chuzenji Lake. This time, I checked in at noon and requested an upgrade to a lake view room, and luckily, one became available on the 5th floor, the top floor. The balcony of the room offered a breathtaking lake view! Although the price was high, it was truly amazing! Environment: Prime location near Chuzenji Lake, with its own dedicated station. The pier, lakeside, and Kegon Falls are all within walking distance. Service: Top-notch. From check-in to introductions, turndown service, and breakfast the next day, the staff were impeccably at home! They now offer twice-daily shuttle service from Nikko Station. Truly fantastic! Facilities: Complete with all amenities, including a private onsen (hot spring), and state-of-the-art bathing and skincare facilities. Cleanliness: Spotless, and the public areas are impeccably beautiful. Staying here is like living inside an oil painting, except for the price. But this is just one example! The purpose of making money is to achieve Ritz-Carlton freedom."

"Most tourists who go to Nikko either come back and forth on the same day or stay in a hot spring hotel. If you have had enough of hot springs, then try this one. It is definitely a rare designer hotel in Japan, very special! Unlike the Ritz by Lake Chuzenji, where there are many tourists outside the window, here you live in a natural park, and there are only continuous mountains, green trees, waterfalls and streams outside the window. It is so beautiful and quiet. The dinner is Michelin-level French food, exquisite and delicious, and the wine selection is also good. It is strongly recommended to include a meal. It is very close to the train station, and it takes less than ten minutes to get there by taxi for 1,600 yen. The hotel has three free shuttle buses to the station in the morning. The employees have multiple roles. The designer is also the owner, the restaurant DJ, the waiter, and the driver. If there is anything, everyone shares it together. Whoever is free will do it. This kind of team feeling is very good. There is also a resident painter. You eat here and he paints there. He creates a work every night. It's wonderful."

Kinugawa Park Hotels Hotels in Nikko

"This hotel was close to the train station and had a 7-11 nearby. My stay included dinner and breakfast, which served local ingredients. Staff was friendly. The room had all basic amenities and was very spacious. It had Japanese tatami sleeping and sitting area, another western sitting area, ofuro, fridge area and a toilet room with a separate sink area. All furniture had seen better days (stitchings on sofa are wearing out) but were kept surprisingly clean. Would definitely stay here again if I visit Kinugawa Onsen."

"This was my first time using this hotel. I was a bit worried because the exterior looked old, but the interior had been renovated and was clean, with the atmosphere of a resort hotel. There was an open-air hot spring bath on the balcony, which I enjoyed."

"It was amazing! They really had everything. The dining room was huge and they gave us 90 minutes. There was a huge variety of delicious food and drinks, including alcohol. There were also several onsen baths, both indoor and outdoor. It was definitely worth a visit for relaxation. It was mostly Japanese families; there weren't many foreign tourists, which was nice and peaceful."

"Next to the hotel is the large suspension bridge, and Kinugawa Onsen Station is a 10-minute walk away. Breakfast and dinner are all buffets, and drinks are all available. The outdoor swimming pool is open from 9 am to 10:30 am and from 1 pm to 6 pm! Very good value for money!"

Kinugawa Grand Hotel Yume No Toki Hotels in Nikko

"Compared with the hotels I stayed at before, no one helped with luggage, and there was no moisturizing lotion in the room. You can drink the tap water directly, but the hot water bottle is too big to reach in. There was no ice water prepared in the room. Maybe it was because I was more satisfied with the previous stay and the equipment was more complete, but it seemed a little shabby here. The food was okay. Some of the waiters can also speak Chinese. There are indoor and outdoor hot springs to choose from , but if I come again, I will probably try somewhere else."

"Friendly staff who speak good English. Nice breakfast of fruit, boiled egg and toast for 1500Yen. Appreciated the Mashiko pottery it was served on. Clean and quiet. Enjoyed the private onsens (2). Perfect location for temples, shrines, convenience store and restaurants."

"The hotel is quite new, and the room is very spacious. We enjoyed soaking in the hot springs at night and strolling along the Onsen street during the day. It's very close to the Yumoto Onsen Ski Resort, which was great as it was mostly locals skiing there. The only downside is that it's a bit far to get to; you have to take the bus and get off at stop number 45."

Ooedo Onsen Monogatari Hotel Kinugawa Gyoen

"The hotel is located next to the main onsen street, about a 10-minute walk from Kinugawa Onsen Station, but it's still acceptable. We stayed on the 8th floor, which offered a beautiful river view. Although the hotel is a bit old, it's spacious and you can feel its former glory. The outdoor onsen was small, but the view of Kinugawa was wonderful. The front desk staff were also very friendly. The buffet dinner was particularly noteworthy—it was incredibly abundant, and you could even make your own sushi-yaki! We only stayed one night, but it was very comfortable, except for a slight urine smell in the bathroom. Otherwise, it was quite nice."

Hotel Murakami Hotels in Nikko

Hotel Murakami

"As a transit point to Nikko and Kinugawa Onsen, it is a particularly quiet small city with many rice fields and frogs croaking at night. The location of the hotel is very good. It is between JR Imaichi and Shimo-Ima Station. Haneda takes the express train from Asakusa to Kinugawa Onsen. It is very comfortable. The hotel is quiet and clean. It seems to be run by a family. The door lock is still old-fashioned and requires a key to open, not electronic. There is a convenience store diagonally opposite the hotel, which is super convenient, and it is not far from a large supermarket. There are a few restaurants nearby, and many have relatively short business hours."

"This hotel boasts an excellent location, with stunning views of Lake Chuzenji right from the balcony. The room features both indoor and outdoor onsen baths, making it incredibly pleasant to soak while enjoying the lake view, especially on a clear day. The staff are very welcoming and helpful. The room itself is spacious, well-equipped, clean, and tidy. The hotel also provides a convenient shuttle bus service to nearby transport hubs, which is a thoughtful touch."

Nikko Kanaya Hotel ★★★★★
"The location is very good for sightseeing and quiet. We expected more proactive service in a 4-star-hotel. (We had to make up our beds on our own, even after confirmation that the room should be cleaned up. Surprising in a 4-star-hotel.) The facilities are historic, yes, but also not well cared. It is a shame that the wooden furniture or the wooden elements like window sills are not renovated."

"Having read both the good and bad reviews, I visited with mixed expectations and trepidation. I figured a few things would be ok, considering the price included two meals and it was a weekend during the autumn foliage season, but I was pleasantly surprised. The owner's service was simply wonderful. He was polite, kind, and humorous, and he even gave me information about traffic congestion and recommended local spots. The hotel itself wasn't new, but it was well-maintained, and there was an open-air bath in my room, so although I didn't try out the outdoor baths, the bath was nice. The only problem I had was that I had to walk up and down quite a few stairs to get to my room, and wearing slippers and socks made it difficult to walk. All the food was delicious, too. I'd definitely stay at this hotel again if I visit Nikko."

"Good hotel, right in front of the JR railway station and bus stop number 1 to the Nikko national park and beyond. Room was adequately sized and clean although slightly dated, which was not issue. Breakfast was quite basic. Service was warm and efficient. The availability of an onsen was a big advantage to soak away our fatigue from a long day of hiking"

"Pleasant stay. Hotel is kind of near top of the hill. There’s a pantry by the lobby and also a dining table. Coffee bean machine which is great. There is no restaurant for breakfast. Have to use coupon to redeem breakfast from reception. Japanese breakfast, cold. But there is a food truck outside the hotel which is convenient for hot breakfast like toast. So far room is cozy and water shower pressure is good. Some stains on the wall in the toilet."

"The hotel is great and very convenient, just a two or three-minute walk to the JR station. On the first day, I got bitten by mountain leeches while visiting the World Heritage temple complex. Thankfully, the front desk gave me medicine to apply and bandages to stop the bleeding. I'm very grateful for the hotel's help. On the second day, you can walk to Chuzenji Onsen and climb Mount Nantai, which takes about 6 hours round trip. It's the third-highest mountain in the Kanto region, so if you enjoy hiking, you should definitely give it a try."
