"You’ll need taxi or car to go to Rakuten Stay if you bring suitcase, as Nikko don’t have a well pedestrian walk and it’s a bit hard if you pull your luggage by yourself.
The check-in process quiet confusing as there’s no reception and the easiest way is to call the Rakuten Stay straight away and ask room number and door passcode and you can do the check-in process inside your room.
The room is really nice and it’s huge, we even get our own onsen which is really nice. The price also not that expensive, compare to hotel room if you’re more than 2 people.
Overall really enjoy my stay despite the confusing check-in, but the help center really assist me patiently"

"The hotel is rather old but well maintained. It is a classic hotel from the 70s-80s (i think) era. The room are large by Japanese standard.
The dinner spread is good but breakfast is disappointing.
There is a 150yen Onsen tax per person which should be stated in the details eventhough the amount is small."

"This is a hotel where famous people such as Einstein stayed in the last century. There is a history gallery and museum in the hotel. It is clean and the service is very good. They will personally lead guests to the door of the room. The room is relatively large compared to Japanese hotels. However, the disadvantage is that the facilities are relatively old, with a small TV and two small beds, and there is no socket next to the bed, so you can only charge on the table. It is suitable for a short experience of one or two days, not for long-term stay, but no one comes to Nikko for a long time."

"I had an exceptional stay at Nikko Stay House Arai, and I would rate it a perfect 10/10. From the moment I arrived, I felt right at home. The accommodations were incredibly comfortable and had a warm, homely atmosphere that made my stay so enjoyable.
The attention to detail in the design and decor truly made it feel like a home away from home. The staff were friendly and attentive, always ready to assist with a smile. The cleanliness and upkeep of the facilities were top-notch.
Overall, my experience was nothing short of fantastic. If you're looking for a place that feels like home, Nikko Stay House Arai is the perfect choice. Highly recommended!"

"We spent three wonderful nights here. The host is very kind and attentive, cooks an excellent breakfast (which he can make vegetarian if needed), and offers a shuttle service to the city center included in the reservation.
The rooms are very clean, spacious, and well-equipped.
To top it all off, you can even enjoy one of the many private hot tubs.
In short, I would have gladly given it a sixth star if I could!"

GGuest UserThe room was spacious, the bed was comfortable, and the view was great. The free cocktail and coffee services in the lobby were nice, as well as the free drink bar (including one beer per person) near the entrance to the hot spring. The paid massage service was also good. The meals were decent, especially the grilled beef, which simply melted in my mouth. The restaurant staff welcomed us warmly and provided friendly service.
Cons: The variety of hot springs was lacking, and the view from the hot springs was almost blocked, which was disappointing. The lockers for valuables used combination dials, and foreign guests often didn’t know how to use them, locking their room keys inside and struggling to reopen them. This was a major inconvenience. They should switch to a key-and-wristband system like other onsen hotels.
The room itself felt like an old, once-grand mansion that had seen better days. The furniture had many scratches, and the surfaces were worn and peeling. It made me think it must have been impressive in the past. Still, the room was definitely more spacious compared to other hotels.

CcckentThe hotel is great! The room was clean, comfortable, and well-equipped with many facilities like karaoke, a game center, and more. I visited with my family, a total of 14 people, and they were able to arrange a private room for us for both dinner and breakfast. Both meals were buffet-style and absolutely delicious.
The onsen experience was wonderful, and the view from the onsen was fantastic, with a beautiful view of the Kinugawa River.
However, there was one issue: when we checked in, the reception took our passports for photocopying. Unfortunately, they missed returning one of the passports to us. It wasn’t until after we checked out and reached our next stop that we realized one passport was missing. We had to go back to the hotel to take it.
Despite this, the overall experience was great, and I would still recommend the hotel.

GGuest UserMany things were great about this hotel - I stayed in the dorm for 10 nights and you're basically getting hotel level service and amenities for dorm price, very value for money. New towels provided everyday, library and lounge were great (free alcohol and snacks, plus lovely hammocks and view of the lake), onsen was a good size with indoor and outdoor pools.
The one thing I didn't like was the material they used to construct the dorm capsules - thin wood that was very hollow, resulting in a deafening amplification of sound whenever your neighbours moved around you. If you're a light sleeper you might want to reconsider.
But otherwise, it was awesome, I would go back again!

SShanghai CNPros: Direct access to the station, friendly staff, an onsen (hot spring bath), rooms are spacious for Japanese standards, and a simple Japanese breakfast is included.
Cons: The bathroom fan was noisy (though it can be switched off), and you could sometimes hear fans from neighboring rooms. Also, a bed sheet was stained and needed to be replaced.
Overall: It's decent for the price paid. Generally, accommodations in Nikko are quite basic, and there's not much nightlife or many dining options in the evenings (it can be hard to find a restaurant). Tip: A short train ride to the next station will offer more restaurant choices in the evening.

JJCtravellerThe hotel is equipped with an open air parking block of around 15 spaces, which I assume it's first come
first serve basis. When we arrived on a monday night (Mid august) around 9pm to check in there was only one parking space left.
Check in -and out are done in a compartment next to the parking spaces, self serviced on a tablet with quite a few language options (english, chinese....).
Our room was spacious and even came equipped with a projector (poppin Alladin) which the kids enjoyed for watching movies.
There was a laundry machine inside the room, with laundry detergent provided, and drying rack.
Enough clean towels were provided for our family during the stay so we did not need to wash the towels.
However as there was no in room housekeeping service, the litter processing was done by ourselves (perhaps the only inconvenience we found in living in this motel).

But who wants to eat vegetarian food in a hot spring hotel... After returning, I contacted the Ctrip platform to ask the reason, whether it was a problem with the agent's order or the hotel's problem. The feedback speed was very fast. I made several calls in two days to report the progress and was willing to bear part of the refund, but I never told you the reason we wanted to know. What was the problem?

GGuest UserThe location is really good. 10 mins away from the station. Easy to find. Big hotel, about 11 floors. The room is quite spacious, part in western style with beds and part in japaneese with tatamis. There is sink in themiddle of the room, quite comfy. Good view to the mountain and forest from the window, 9th floor. Nice yukata to wear, i liked the outerpart. Breakfast and dinner is buffet, quite big choice, free beer for dinner, not so many fruits, no cakes for breakfast (dinner only). There is sushi and sashimi choice, delicious food. Onsen is quite good, clean, big. Will recommend to stay here

玩玩转星球-KevinThe most important buffet dinner during the stay was served very late, and the dishes were often empty, which is very rare in Japan.
Because it was less than 700 yuan and included two meals, although the hotel had many flaws, it was understandable, but the faucet in the room seemed to be broken, and the water flow was not smooth, which should be replaced.
Overall, this room was acceptable.
