"Small compact room with modern interior. Comfy bed and well ventilated with mini fan provided. They provided extra bedsheet so that the sofa bed is converted to another single. Big enuf for a teenager to sleep on. Space big enough to open just one huge luggage. Somehow the room feels damp but we just stayed for two nights so did not bother changing rooms. Lots of free parking available. Near Aso milk factory which is a must visit for delicious pastries and snacks."

"We stayed in a twin bunk bed room. Very clean, toilets and showers were great (about 6 toilets, 4 showers). Common space was very inviting and cozy with a nice wood heater. A bit of noise until midnight with creaky floorboards but aside from that, very quiet location. Not much open around for food on a Monday night in mid March but we went to Coffee Plaza for dinner and had food from Lawsons for breakfast. Highly recommend!!"

"The room was really clean and modern feel. Loved it the moment we stepped in! Pillows and bed was so comfy that allows us to rest well on a road trip. Pls note they do not have kitchen, they do offeted 24hrs free coffe, tea and miso at their mini meals area where you can buy your own food and enjoy there with families. Seriously no complaint about the hotel. But if you are heading there on sun like us, pls do note you will have limited choice for dinner as most restaurants closed on sun"

"This cozy family-run inn is run by a friendly and welcoming owner from Taiwan. He's come all the way to Japan to retire and start his second life, handling everything himself. He's always ready to help with any questions about accommodation, transportation, or sightseeing. The traditional Japanese wooden house has a charming, old-fashioned feel. The rooms and bathrooms are in the Showa era style, but have been renovated to be very comfortable, with complete heating and air conditioning. Even in spring, temperatures in Aso can sometimes drop to 0 degrees Celsius at night, but the bathrooms are heated, so there's no need to worry too much. The entire building has three or four suites, making it perfect for family trips or solo road trips. It's about a 1-1.5 hour drive from the inn to Mount Aso, or you can walk to Aso Shrine and take a bus to JR Aso Station. There's also a shopping street near the shrine where you can eat and shop; you can borrow a bicycle from the owner to get there. There's also a specialty Aso natural ice cream shop nearby – give it a try! Cycling through the nearby farmland in spring, summer, and autumn is a wonderful experience. The only issue is that from other major stations, you can't use IC cards, credit cards, or mobile transit cards to exit JR Miyashita Station; you must buy a ticket at the departure station first. Buses are also relatively infrequent in the vicinity. However, this isn't a problem if you're driving through Kyushu. I genuinely think this place is suitable for: 1. Those who have visited Japan multiple times and want to escape the hustle and bustle of tourist areas and enjoy natural scenery. 2. Those who enjoy tranquility or hiking in the mountains. 3. Family trips, or people who need a kitchen. "The room was a bit small, and the towels had a really unpleasant, sour smell – it was honestly unbearable. I wasn't very satisfied. The room view was decent, but overall, the place felt quite old and outdated. The transportation wasn't convenient. Overall, it was just an average experience."

"We had a nice and exciting stay at Kamenoi hotel Aso. The view is a picture perfect. The Mt. Aso is so a perfect view. It looks like a wallpaper . The room is so clean and comfortabe. The buffet dinner and breakfast is absolutely perfect and delicious. The nice is also nice and accomodating too. Were looking forward om our future stay again.Its a very recommended place👍👍👍"

"As the first stop of my birthday trip, I chose Aso. Having previously worked as a hotel management professional, I had high expectations for the hotel’s facilities and services. My stay at Kakuman Hotel, along with my traveling companions, was thoroughly enjoyable—from check-in to the overall amenities, everything exceeded our satisfaction. The staff we encountered were exceptionally friendly, whether at the front desk or in the restaurant. Additionally, experiencing hot springs for the first time left us feeling deeply relaxed. Thank you to Kakuman Hotel for adding color to my journey.🙏🏼 While every aspect was highly satisfying, there was a minor shortcoming: the majority of diners in the restaurant were Korean tourists. On my second night, a small incident occurred during dinner. The server assigned me a seat where only tableware and a departure-time notice were placed. After I retrieved my food, I found three Korean guests (two elderly individuals and a middle-aged man) preparing to sit there. I was confused whether I had taken the wrong seat or if there was another reason, so I asked the guests. Unexpectedly, the man loudly called over the female server who had arranged the seat and sharply questioned her in Japanese. The server later found me the correct seat, which was at the table adjacent to the three guests. I felt deeply sorry for the female server being unjustly scolded, and I also did not understand why the Korean man needed to accuse her in such a loud tone—I would have been happy to apologize for my misunderstanding. Regarding the above incident, I would like to offer a suggestion: the tables in the restaurant are each equipped with a bucket of tableware and wet wipes, but there are no numbers or markers to identify the assigned seats. Guests can only rely on placing their own items or memory to remember their seats. I believe I am not the only one who has encountered a similar issue, and the hotel may consider adding markers to each table to make it easier for guests to recognize their assigned seats."

"To be expected in such a small town, the hotel is quite old and dated. The tatami room can accommodate four futons for a family of four, but there is almost no room left for anything else. The public onsen on 1F and roof are included with your stay. This hotel is great value for money if you know what a traditional Japanese onsen hotel is like."

"It was very good. It was my first time staying in a traditional Japanese ryokan with tatami rooms, so I wasn't used to it at first, but I slept well and it was very quiet. The public and private onsen baths were both excellent, and the meals included with the stay were also well-arranged. Recommended!"

"Great dinner that you much purchase together with room stay! Private hot springs on first come first serve which we enjoy very much. As tourist, we also enjoyed the Japanese room. Also very good breakfast with fruits choice from the region. Will definitely stay again in next visit to ASO. P.S. we missed the Mount ASO Smoke Observation Park on the first day as they stop visitor from 4pm. We went again the next day morning (JPY1000 per car driving up) and finally made it of Mount ASO."
