Otohime-No-Sato

Simple guesthouse with basic furnishings. We wanted to have dinner, but the gentleman at reception told us it wasn't possible, without giving any explanation. The futons were unfortunately very old and soft, making them quite uncomfortable. The only good thing was the onsens, which you could use privately.

It's a traditional Japanese hot spring inn with free parking at the entrance. It's a bit old, but still quite clean, and the tatami mats are very comfortable. The highlight is their Japanese cuisine, which is very rich and delicious. The only downside is that you have to share a bathroom, which is a bit unusual.

The accommodation is a ryokan-style inn with a private onsen (hot spring bath) and a choice of breakfast or dinner. We chose dinner, and the meal was huge! We had horse sashimi, traditionally grilled fish, grilled meat, side dishes, and fruit at the end. Yukata robes were provided. The owner/staff only spoke Japanese but was very lovely. The onsen baths are open from 7 am to 9 am. There are shared bathrooms, but many are clean. You have to make your own sheets and bedding. The accommodation should have instructions on how to make ryokan-style bedding in the room (because I didn't know how!). But the beds were very comfortable and warm. The accommodation has a countryside feel, and there are cute dogs that greet guests. Parking is available at the property free of charge.

It's a traditional Japanese-style hotel, located a ten-minute drive from the Aso volcano crater. I chose the option that included dinner and breakfast. There was a charcoal stove for making soup, a traditional Japanese specialty.

A special kind of overnight stay - a Minshuku is a Japanese guesthouse. This one was really great, big rooms with a view of the greenery, delicious food, onsen and reasonable prices. There were 4 private onsen and one was always available. Breakfast and dinner can be booked optionally. Both times there were many courses, which were very tasty!
