"The room was really clean and modern feel. Loved it the moment we stepped in! Pillows and bed was so comfy that allows us to rest well on a road trip. Pls note they do not have kitchen, they do offeted 24hrs free coffe, tea and miso at their mini meals area where you can buy your own food and enjoy there with families. Seriously no complaint about the hotel. But if you are heading there on sun like us, pls do note you will have limited choice for dinner as most restaurants closed on sun"

"This cozy family-run inn is run by a friendly and welcoming owner from Taiwan. He's come all the way to Japan to retire and start his second life, handling everything himself. He's always ready to help with any questions about accommodation, transportation, or sightseeing. The traditional Japanese wooden house has a charming, old-fashioned feel. The rooms and bathrooms are in the Showa era style, but have been renovated to be very comfortable, with complete heating and air conditioning. Even in spring, temperatures in Aso can sometimes drop to 0 degrees Celsius at night, but the bathrooms are heated, so there's no need to worry too much. The entire building has three or four suites, making it perfect for family trips or solo road trips. It's about a 1-1.5 hour drive from the inn to Mount Aso, or you can walk to Aso Shrine and take a bus to JR Aso Station. There's also a shopping street near the shrine where you can eat and shop; you can borrow a bicycle from the owner to get there. There's also a specialty Aso natural ice cream shop nearby – give it a try! Cycling through the nearby farmland in spring, summer, and autumn is a wonderful experience. The only issue is that from other major stations, you can't use IC cards, credit cards, or mobile transit cards to exit JR Miyashita Station; you must buy a ticket at the departure station first. Buses are also relatively infrequent in the vicinity. However, this isn't a problem if you're driving through Kyushu. I genuinely think this place is suitable for: 1. Those who have visited Japan multiple times and want to escape the hustle and bustle of tourist areas and enjoy natural scenery. 2. Those who enjoy tranquility or hiking in the mountains. 3. Family trips, or people who need a kitchen. "We had a nice and exciting stay at Kamenoi hotel Aso. The view is a picture perfect. The Mt. Aso is so a perfect view. It looks like a wallpaper . The room is so clean and comfortabe. The buffet dinner and breakfast is absolutely perfect and delicious. The nice is also nice and accomodating too. Were looking forward om our future stay again.Its a very recommended place👍👍👍"

"This is a fantastic resort! With the dinner and breakfast package, you practically don't need to leave the hotel for meals. The resort offers a wide range of entertainment facilities, including a swimming pool and a mini lazy river. The onsen (hot springs) are also excellent, with each bath providing a different scenic view. It's conveniently located about 1 km (a 15-minute walk) from Aso Station, making it very easy to get to the volcano crater."

"I couldn’t sleep well. There is a high unblocked window facing the beds. There is no curtain or blinds to cover it. So the room becomes very bright every morning when the sunrise light penetrates through it into the room. It’s very disturbing. This room design seems very odd to me."

"I have been staying in very special places in Japan: beautiful locations with lots of care and details but this one is my favorite so far! Yoshi and Myong made me feel super welcomed, comfy and happy in their guesthouse. I arrived with a BIG LUGAGGE which was right away taken up by Yoshi (thank you so much!!!) and when I left he reminded me I could ask for his help if I needed (which I did). I like to ”judge” a place by the comfiness of their sofas, and Aso Base delivered superb excellency! So many cozy corners, there's not even one futon that is not hyper soft! The bathrooms have some themes on the wall, one is the cat theme, another one jellyfish and the other is lizards, so I had fun time choosing what theme I would go to. The shower capsules have shampoo conditioner and soap and then an area to dry your hair with a great view! There's details that are just piece of art! A small corner with a table, cd player and CDs that are awesome- Japanese, international and relax music and audiobooks! I've searched many of them in Spotify and will keep listening. While you are listening there are some images, like a collage, and it's so well thought. Every image has a doll representing it live action as well, like dreams coming true. The kitchen is reeeeaallly equipped, drinking water at the tap and has lots of seasonings and teapots 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰 There's extra blankets and pillows and some of the pillows are animal shaped 😺🐶🐷🐑 so during my four nights there I slept in the company of Mr Snuggles, a grey cat that smiled with his eyes closed - there was pinky pig and hairy sheep too! in the female dorm every bed has a blue sky wallpaper like in Toy Story!!!! 🥹 I was a bit worried because the comments say there's lots of rules and that they are strict and don't open the door for people in the rain. But the thing is: there are some rules, because they are two people (+ another lady who helps with cleaning) taking care of a big house. It needs some organization and routines. They provide storage and the area has great options to enjoy while waiting - if necessary. Is a small town, many great restaurants around - the shop right next to the station that sells local products is a must trying repeatedly, the best onsen in the region is 3 minutes away, a Lawson across the street. I greatly enjoyed my time in Aso and everyday was glad to be going back to Aso Base. It is a place to come with a light and warm heart and soul ( they will certainly retribute), where you can have great conversations, play games or read a book, cozily nested and drinking tea while the fireplace and many lighting create a whole vibe. I've booked 4 nights and wish they were 8! Kamsahamnida and Domo Arigato, Myong and Yoshi!!!"

"The Golf Course with view of Mt Aso is beaitiful. We opted for dinner and breakfast and both meals were very good. Service staff were friendly and helpful. The drive in to the hotel is rather far, good to have your own car. The hotel has shuttle service as well."

"To be expected in such a small town, the hotel is quite old and dated. The tatami room can accommodate four futons for a family of four, but there is almost no room left for anything else. The public onsen on 1F and roof are included with your stay. This hotel is great value for money if you know what a traditional Japanese onsen hotel is like."

"Great dinner that you much purchase together with room stay! Private hot springs on first come first serve which we enjoy very much. As tourist, we also enjoyed the Japanese room. Also very good breakfast with fruits choice from the region. Will definitely stay again in next visit to ASO. P.S. we missed the Mount ASO Smoke Observation Park on the first day as they stop visitor from 4pm. We went again the next day morning (JPY1000 per car driving up) and finally made it of Mount ASO."

"This onsen ryokan, right in the heart of Uchinomaki Onsen town, gets a perfect score from us! We encountered incredibly thoughtful staff and a warm taxi driver. Knowing we had to catch the JR train the next day, the front desk auntie went above and beyond to help us arrange a taxi, even standing outside anxiously waiting with us. Once the taxi arrived, she repeatedly urged the driver to speed up. The driver, a kind grandpa, even used a translator on the way to constantly reassure us that we would make it in time, and expressed his longing to visit China. This was truly the highlight of our trip. As for the hotel itself, it's a well-established ryokan. The rooms are beautiful and spacious, each featuring an indoor onsen with direct, free-flowing hot spring water that leaves your skin feeling incredibly smooth. We loved the large, traditional Japanese-style decor. There are also two private onsen that require advance booking, as well as a large public onsen. We later discovered it was even a filming location for a racing manga! Additionally, there's an outdoor foot bath. Dining was a delightful surprise. We enjoyed Wagyu shabu-shabu, and the children's meal even included Wagyu yakiniku. Breakfast offered the famous local Mizunashi chicken dish, which completely won over my taste buds. On the first floor, there's also a preserved, old-fashioned Japanese-style reception room in the lobby, made with high-quality wood, which guests can visit."
