I think the management really need to work on customer service (front desk). I called to check if is it possible for me to perform early check in and I guess that the frontdesk didnt even really listen to my question properly before responding. Next, I arrived and about to check-in before I was told that the property only accepting cash. I knew there is a bank just nearby but do you know how inconvenience it is. Perhaps this info to be added in your property info to ease your guest. Being someone from customer service, I would say there is much more to improve in term of greetings, courtesy and body language. In term of facilities and amenities, all is satisfactory. The hotel design and strategic location are their selling point. With convenient store and Subway outlets, it helps if you need tp grab a quick meal. Note : a) If you travel with elderly, you may also request for a room at 1st floor (instead of 2nd floor) since the room is only accessible via staircase b) The rooftop is already closed for good. I have included to enjoy the sunset view in my list too. c) Please try the cafe next to the hotel as it is listed among the best cafe with a best coffee in town

This is an old antique style hotel and one you would not often come across. The room was clean, quiet until the Chinese New Year celebrations started with all guest invited to participate it. As it not a real big hotel, breakfast was average and could only have one drink. There is no roof top bar but you can take your own drinks up there. The location is good and use ”The Top” building as a guide to get around. Reception staff VERY helpful. Room was clean, bed comfortable, shower water pressure good. The TV only has one channel which is in Malay. I used the internet which was great.

The Below review will be based on the truth as I complained as such the person who is working for the hotel as FRONT OFFICE MANAGER so I will have bias and understand they need an improvement. 1. Check in: very slow, took 30-45 minutes to clarify the booking as they would like to charge us more during the long weekend. Actually, the booking is already confirmed with the invoice where they can prove and should be honor to the invoice even long weekend. The kept us waiting for more than half an hour to check and clarify. When we have the defense on this price discrepancies they seem not really happy and show us the negative attitude where the hotel staff should not have. 2. The room#612: the room may be used for the previous guest as I saw the spot on the bedsheet, the tissue box in the toilet is used, the smell in room is not fresh so the cleanliness of this room is ZERO. Don’t look at the room condition as you could not find it in this room. You should not compare the physical room to the picture, otherwise you will hurt yourself and blame to your self that you make a big mistake. 3. The Hotel water system: they said that you have to wait till the water getting warm (around 20-30minutes by turning the water on). When compare to another room on level#1016 I can get the hot water (not warm) immediately after turn it on a few second. 3.1 HELLO!! hotel continental**GM** I am not booking the hotel here to educate your water system and understand how is it working and waste my time to wait for the hotel water. Logically, when we would like to take a shower, we need the hot water within minutes not an hour. Especially when the outside is raining and I got flu so I really need the hotel water. 3.2 No need to inform them anything they thought we make something up and will not care even you got flu and need the hot water during raining day 4. the air con in room#612 is totally cold even you turn the 5. I got the new room after I have tried very hard to ask for changing the room the I got 605 which is not really difference but better than the previous one and I felt really tired to talk to them. 6. The WIFI on new room#605 is not working at all. For tourist we need wifi as we would like to save our internet. 7. BREAKFAST: please do not book the breakfast as there are only TEA/coffee/ Boiled egg/ bread/ 1 hotdish /milk and never fill up, they claim themselves as American breakfast but street food is a lot better. Some day no buffet. The hotel itself is old need to renovation Think about this hotel before booking, if you have no place to stay you then can book this hotel but it is always has choice there. We throughly enjoyed our stay at the Campbell House. Excellent location and reception staffs were welcoming and very helpful. They provided us with maps & recommendations after check in. Always asked us about our day and highlights. Thank you for a memorable experience! The room is very clean although small for 2 to share. I would recommend the double room for one traveller or short/weekend travellers with less luggages.

New hotel less than a week after opening. The room is high in value and the design is fashionable. The hotel has limited parking spaces and cars can be parked on the street. Once you get to the hotel floor, you need to take the elevator to the second floor to check in. Because of the early arrival of the hotel, there was no sign of the front desk when I arrived, and I waited for the front desk staff to return soon. The kind smile and service attitude made up for the previous shortcomings. The most need to improve is the sound insulation of the room. When there is a vehicle passing, I feel like I am sleeping on the roadside and I am noisy all night. This hotel is really good if I am not afraid of being disturbed by the sound.

Absolutely terrible. I walk in at 10am, and the guy at the counter does not welcome me, but instead asks for over 100myr. Poor customer service from him, he maybe be new but it would be worth that he gets some training on how to deal with customers. My first room was very dirty. There were stains around the bed, there were stains on the towel, the bathroom had not been cleaned properly, it very disgusting. The cleaners did not look like official cleaners as they were not dressed in uniform. The cupboards were dusty. I asked to move room, and the lady was very kind and moved room. However this room smelt of cigarettes!!! It was vile. Again there was same problem with the room not being clean. I felt incredibly disgusted because whose spit and body fluid could In that room. I instead checked out and found that the manager was rude to his staff. I did not get a refund on my room but did end up with all the extra cash I had to pay.

the location of this hotel, its walkable to other area, easy access. got their own parking. facilities is okay, just maybe my luck i got broken hairdryer. for the service is tip top, we went out at the night but that night really crazy rain, the security approch us and offer umbrella for each of us. receiptions also give a very quick service. dont have to wait long for a room.

We had a pleasant three-day stay at this hotel. The hotel is in an excellent location, situated between two large malls with plenty of shops and restaurants and within a reasonable cab ride to both George Town and Batu Ferringhi. The room was quite spacious but a little bit dated and worn down. It could use a refresh. The bed was very comfortable, however, and the water pressure in the shower was excellent. We enjoyed using the beautiful infinity pool. Service was friendly and efficient. One area that could use improvement is the breakfast. Although there is a good variety of items offered, many just weren't very tasty. The best thing on the buffet was the homemade ice cream. Overall, this is a good place to stay when exploring the island of Penang.

I am a frequent traveler, and I never had a horrible experience if the word ‘bad’ is not enough, such as my second stay at Spices Hotel Penang. I booked a Deluxe Room, which obviously according to the description is not the smallest room they have since the room space is 19-meter sq, still bigger than the Superior room which is only 17-meter sq. Upon my arrival, I was given a room called ”Mint Room” which is totally in a separate building from the main hotel building I used to stay in before (this was never mentioned in the advertisement for the room) And guess what? I did my measurement, and the room was only 3 meters wide and less than 4 meters in length ~which meant less than 12-meter sq including the bathroom, OMG. There was no city view like they said in the description, it was a narrow concrete wall outside the window, complete with the view of an AC outdoor unit. After I came home, I checked on booking.com, there is nothing like my room in all of the pictures shared for Deluxe rooms or even for the pictures of the Superior rooms. And as I continued to compare I noticed there is only one picture that matches the concrete wall outside the window complete with the AC outdoor unit like I had, on the Superior room description! Did Spices Hotel give me the wrong room? My bad experience didn't stop there. Please at all costs avoid the rooms in this separate building. There was no such soundproof at all in the room. Our room was on the second level, and at ground level was a Japanese restaurant TONARI. So expect to hear people talking loudly until midnight, and when the restaurant closed, it was just getting worse with the sound of its employees cleaning up and brushing all the utensils. Good luck with a good night's sleep. Then, the no soundproof saga was not ended. During my stay there I could hear the alarm from guests next to my room which was super irritating. Every day starting from 3 am, and just stop ringing until 6 am. Was somebody dead in the next room? Please Spices Hotel, do some soundproof works, your guest needs to take a rest. Also, four of the pillows provided were hard foam and only one extra pillow was soft microfiber. It's not the standard of a hotel room. For 3 nights stay, there was no housekeeping service whatsoever that came and cleaned our room. I had to ask the reception on the first night to come to refill the body shampoo. Even with putting the sign “please clean our room”, nobody came to clean. So we ended up using the same towels throughout our stay. Like I said before, my room was in a different building from the main hotel (Is that the reason for the whole bad experience/service?) which was not mentioned in the ad. Because this was my second stay with Spices Hotel, I can say that this was a completely different experience and out of my expectation of Spices Hotel's good reviews before. The attitude of the store clerk was very good, but the cockroach in the room was as big as a northern mouse. It was the biggest cockroach I have ever seen. It scared me so much that I could only turn on the light to sleep in the middle of the night.
