"Beyond its spaciousness, the room offered little else. The hotel was quite stingy; we only received two bottles of water daily, and just one roll of toilet paper in the bathroom. There were a measly four hangers, which wasn't enough. There's no laundry room either. Disposable slippers were only provided on the first day of check-in and not replenished afterward. Even if you left a used bar of soap, housekeeping wouldn't replace it with a fresh one. My advice for booking this hotel is to reserve one day at a time, as cancellations are difficult. The breakfast is local fare, which isn't really to a Chinese palate, mainly because everything is cold. If you're paying out of your own pocket, you'd be better off staying in a guesthouse run by Chinese owners."

"It's kinda quirky but hey, it's very well-situated. It doesn't really cater for non-Russian/Kazakh speakers, but they try, I'll give them that. They're friendly enough, and the decor is bizarre (they call it 'traditional'....ok) - but the rooms have air-con that kind of works (everything kind of works) and the breakfast is actually quite good, once you've got them to understand what you want. Check out the English 'Breakfast fit for the Quenn (sic)' on their menu, where apparently Elizaabeth 2 liked canned peaches (!) but maybe she did. I told them that it's King Charles now, but I think my point got lost in translation. I guess that the lack of English speakers is due to their standard clientele, so I didn't complain, but it's a bit odd nowadays. Whatever - straight over the busy main road (and the soundproofing is good) and you've got some great eating places, malls, you name it - and to the right/east you can walk up the main thoroughfare and see all the sights of the weird urban experiment that is Astana. Beds are comfy and the place is clean, although in general it needs a bit of a face-lift (like me). Go for it - it's a bit of a laugh, as long as you're patient."

"Pros: · Fantastic buffet breakfast – a huge selection, everything fresh, and excellent pastries and meats; · Great spa area – large pool, saunas, hammam, clean, and plenty of towels; · Comfortable beds, slept wonderfully; · Beautiful view of Baiterek and the embankment; · Quick and smooth check-in; · Polite staff in the spa and restaurant. Cons: · The rooms are old, with worn furniture and plumbing fixtures; · Room cleanliness was subpar – dust and stains on the carpet; · When turning on the in-room Jacuzzi, pieces of mold flew out – shocking for a 5-star hotel! Conclusion: Service, food, spa, and location – excellent! Room condition and cleanliness – not so great (The mold in the Jacuzzi was particularly off-putting. For the price, there are other options available, so I'd only return if there was a significant discount. Would I recommend it? Probably not."
