Hong Kong Arrival Card: Entry Guide & Travel Tips

Author's Profile Picture
Hong Kong Arrival Card

When you land in Hong Kong, there’s a quick form you need to take care of — it’s called the Arrival Card. It’s nothing complicated. Just basic stuff like your name, passport number, flight info, and where you’re staying. You can fill it out online before you travel, or sometimes they give it to you on the plane. Either way, it’s required, and without it, immigration might hold you up. This article breaks down what it is and how to get it done without stress.

❤️Pro Tip: When planning your visit, consider booking flights from Manila to Hong Kong and Hong Kong hotels in advance to secure the best rates.

📄 What’s the Hong Kong Arrival Card?

The Peak Tram

Once you land in Hong Kong, there’s a quick thing to handle before you get going — the Arrival Card.

It’s just a simple form for immigration. If you’ve been here before, you probably know the drill. If not, no worries — you can fill it out online before your flight, or sometimes they’ll remind you at the airport. Takes maybe a minute. Just easier to have it done before you hit the line.

🎒 What is it?

The Hong Kong Arrival Card is a short form where you give a few basic details:

  • Your name and passport number
  • Your flight number and arrival date
  • Where you’re staying in Hong Kong

There’s no physical card handed out on the plane anymore — it’s all online now. Just fill it out before you land. You don’t need to print it; immigration will see it in their system.

🛃 Why should Filipino travelers care?

Let’s be real — a lot of Pinoys forget about this part. Some even try to do it while waiting in line at immigration. But after a long flight? No thanks.

Here’s why it matters:

✅ Avoid delays at immigration
✅ No need to rush or panic at the airport
✅ One less thing to worry about when you land

👥 Who Needs to Fill Out the Hong Kong Arrival Card?

Tsim Sha Tsui

It’s quick, it’s online, and yes — Filipino travelers still need to do it.

Here’s who should fill it out:

You’re flying into Hong Kong

Whether you’re landing at Hong Kong International Airport or just passing through on a short trip, most travelers arriving by air need to complete the Arrival Card online. Do it before your flight or right after you land (but before immigration).

You’re visiting for a few days or weeks

Tourists, short business trips, quick visits to friends or family — if you're not a resident, this form is part of the entry process. Doesn’t matter if you’re staying in a hotel, Airbnb, or with a friend — you still need it.

You’re not a Hong Kong resident

If you don’t have a Hong Kong ID or permanent status, you’re entering as a visitor — and visitors must submit the Arrival Card. No card, no entry stamp. Simple as that.

📝 How to Fill Out the Hong Kong Arrival Card

Hong Kong Tramways (Ding Ding)

No paper forms. No need to print anything. The Hong Kong Arrival Card is now filled out online — super quick and easy, but you still need to do it right.

Here’s how to get it done, without the stress:

Step 1: Go to the Official Website

Use your phone or laptop and visit the official site:
👉 www.immd.gov.hk → Look for "Online Arrival Card"

Real tip: Do this before your flight — ideally the night before. It takes around 3–5 minutes, and you don’t want to be rushing at the airport.

✍️ Step 2: Fill in Your Basic Info

You’ll need to enter:

  • Full name (same as your passport)
  • Passport number
  • Nationality (Filipino, if you're from the Philippines)
  • Gender and date of birth

Double-check this part. Any mistake might cause delays at immigration.

✈️ Step 3: Flight and Travel Info

Next, they’ll ask for:

  • Flight number (your flight to Hong Kong)
  • Arrival date
  • Purpose of visit (tourism, business, visiting friends, etc.)

Tip: Check your boarding pass or e-ticket for the flight number. It usually looks like “CX900” or “5J272”.

🏨 Step 4: Where You’re Staying

They’ll ask for your address in Hong Kong — just type the name of your hotel, hostel, Airbnb, or wherever you're staying.

No hotel yet?
Put the general area or a temporary place, but be honest — immigration might ask.

📱 Step 5: Submit — and You’re Done!

After you finish, just hit Submit.
No need to print anything. The system will send your info straight to immigration.

You’ll get a confirmation screen — you can screenshot it just in case, but you won’t be asked to show it (most of the time).

👀 Real-Life Reminder:

  • Do one form per person (even for kids)
  • Must be filled within 3 days before you arrive
  • Don’t leave it until you land — Wi-Fi at the airport can be slow or unstable

I recently stayed at Cordis Hotel Hong Kong, and I’m thrilled to share how wonderful my experience was, largely due to the exceptional service from Ernest and Benson at Reception. Their warm hospitality, professionalism, and genuine care made me feel so welcomed from the very start. Even though the hardware in the room wasn’t the newest, I encountered an issue with the TV screen mirroring. However, their quick response and attentiveness turned a minor inconvenience into a display of outstanding customer service. Within no time, the problem was addressed, and I felt truly valued as a guest. I’d also like to extend my heartfelt thanks to the IT Department and Engineering team for their swift assistance—please ensure they receive my appreciation for their hard work behind the scenes. Ernest and Benson’s dedication, combined with the support of these teams, made my stay unforgettable. I highly recommend Cordis Hotel Hong Kong to anyone visiting the city; their commitment to guest satisfaction is unmatched. Thank you again for an incredible experience

I recently stayed at Regal Hotel and overall, I had a pleasant experience with a few areas that could be improved. Location: The location was incredibly convenient. The hotel is surrounded by shops, restaurants, and malls, making it easy to explore the area. One major plus was how easy it was to get a taxi right outside the hotel, especially since Uber was not working for me during my stay. Breakfast: The breakfast offered was quite enjoyable. There was a good variety each morning, and everything was well-cooked and fresh. I appreciated the range of options and the consistent quality during my stay. Room (Executive Suite): Unfortunately, I was disappointed with the executive suite. I chose it expecting a notable upgrade from the deluxe room, but that was not the case. The room was the same size and layout as the deluxe room my friend stayed in. In fact, her room was better designed and noticeably cleaner. The design of my room felt dated, and some details were subpar for an “executive” level room: the curtain was slightly broken, the sofa had visible stains, and the toilet had a yellow discoloration. I was hoping that being on the 33rd floor would mean a more spacious, modern, and luxurious room, but that was not my experience. Service & Staff: On a positive note, the hotel staff were exceptional. They were extremely helpful, professional, and friendly. Whether I needed help navigating the city or having an address translated into Chinese, they were quick to assist and always accommodating. Overall: While I was quite disappointed with the room quality, especially for the price paid for an executive suite, the location, breakfast, and outstanding service made the stay worthwhile. With a few updates to the room interiors and a clearer distinction between room categories, this could be an excellent choice for travelers.

The location is excellent—right next to a mall, a bus station, and surrounded by several other shopping centers. You can easily walk between them via connecting bridges, so you don’t have to worry about sun or rain! The MTR station is also nearby, and you can reach it by walking through the malls, which leads you directly to the station. There’s even a park close by, adding to the convenience. The staff are very professional and welcoming, making the stay even more pleasant. The room was spacious, with furniture that looked almost new, and the bathroom was spotless. I was extremely happy with my stay here and would definitely choose this hotel again when visiting Hong Kong. Highly recommended for both leisure and business travelers!

HongKong International Airport Hong Kong|24.17km from city center
When you walk into the lobby you're astounded by the richness of it. It's shiny and modern and lovely. Everyone is professional and friendly, and you're literally attached to the airport, so all your anxiety melts away knowing you'll get there on time. You go up the elevator to your floor and the musty smell of mildew slaps you in the nose. You push your luggage through deep pile carpet, trying not to think about how long it's been there and swearing you've seen it in some classic 80s films. You get to your room. It's the smell that hits you first. Moldy. It's overwhelming. You go to open a window but it's secured shut with screws. The warped walls and carpets tell you this hotel was a gem thirty or forty years ago and they've done very little to it since. The refillable water bottle is amazing. I loved it. The shower was hot and the bathroom was clean. Excellent. The smell gave me a headache and I slept poorly because the ac had to stay on and stay cold to keep the smell at bay. The breakfast was a good break from the bleakness of the room. I guess what bothers me is it wouldn't take a whole lot to make some improvements. New carpet. Air purifier. I know there's more than a thousand rooms, but there's no way they're filling them all up at these prices. Just fix it up section by section.

The room is really small and dated. The sink is separate from the toilet. Booked a double bed room but was told that they do not have any rooms left and gave us a twin room and will help to move the two beds together. Each of us have a 20inch luggage and we barely have enough place to open the luggage. The slippers provided were so thin they broke when they got wet. Bed sheets with stain and hairs, no additional pillows provided. Shower area was really small that when you closed the curtain, it will kept stick to you skin during your shower, and water kept going out to the toilet area making the whole bathroom wet. The shampoo provided has a strong odour, the conditioner is not like the usual conditioner, the shower gel is still acceptable. No place except for the rack above the toilet that we can hang our clothes, just a few hooks at the corner of the bedroom. Hairdryer is provided. We were travelling for 10 days but we will be visiting Macau for a night so we had two bookings. For the first booking, we saw a cockroach on the 2nd night, so when we check in on our 2nd booking, I informed the receptionist that we do not want the same floor (23th floor) and was given another floor, and was finally given a double bed room. Double bedroom is the same size as the twin bedroom, there's a really small bathtub and it helped with the curtain as it did not stick to my skin during my shower. And the sink is placed inside the bathroom, and there's a steel with hangers at the area which was originally the sink area for twin bedroom. This bedroom layout is way much better although the room is small. The hotel is really near to Tsim Sha Tsui, walking distance, but was really hot in the Summer. There's a miniso just around the metro station. And also walking distance to my favourite dessert milk pudding at Australia Dairy Co. A thing to note, I called to ask if we could leave our luggage at the hotel overnight because we will be coming back from Macau to stay for another 4 nights, they said we could but never mentioned any charges. I thought it would be free as we are returning customers but when we were there in the concierge to place the luggage, we were told that we have to pay HKD20 per piece for overnight, I told the staff we called but did not mention anything that we have to pay, he said there will be no charges for luggage that will be collected on the same day but there will be charges for luggage for overnight. Overall, if you're just looking for a place to stay for the night, then go for it. If you're looking for a better room environment, I would suggest other hotels.

During each visit to Hong Kong, I always stay at the Best Western Plus Kowloon hotel. The location is fantastic, with the East TST MTR station just minutes away. There are plenty of local and Western restaurants in the area, along with a Wellcome supermarket, 7-Eleven, and various other shops all within a short walking distance of less than 100 meters. The service at the hotel is exceptional. If they have a room available, they will always allow you to check in as early as 12 PM, even though the official check-in time is at 3 PM. If you need a late check-out, the hotel is accommodating and will let you check out by 12 PM. The rooms are well-organized, clean, and offer decent views. As a regular guest, I often receive room upgrades if there is availability. The staff are friendly and very helpful. I highly recommend this hotel to all business travelers and even families!!

We were very disappointed with our stay at the Empire Hotel Kowloon. The room was extremely small and poorly laid out, especially the bathroom, which was very cramped and impractical. The window was tiny, letting in barely any natural light, which made the room feel even more claustrophobic. The furniture and building overall felt old and worn down, clearly in need of renovation. One of the main reasons we chose this hotel was the indoor pool — but to our surprise, it was closed for renovation during the peak summer season. This was not communicated clearly in advance, which felt misleading. To make matters worse, the cleanliness in the bathroom was far from acceptable. Overall, this hotel does not live up to its price or rating. We would not stay here again.

The hotel is located near Olympics Station (about 10mins walk from the nearest exit) which was a great place for us when we arrived late at night on our day of check in as it is located on the Tung Chung line. There are many stores just across the streets like eateries, bakeries, supermarket, convenient stores and even a macdonalds. The most convenient way to central mongkok is via their mini green buses. There's also a direct bus that goes to the mongkok east station. Great for travelling to Shenzhen for a day trip. The room is not very spacious but comfortable for 2. We're able to open 2 luggages on the floor at the same time. Shower pressure was great. They've also provided an empty glass bottle for us to collect drinking water from the dispenser located on certain floors so we don't have to buy water at all. The only downside is that they do not provide toothbrush/toothpastes but you're able to purchase them in the vending machine at the lobby for 1HKD. Overall we had a pleasant stay and will stay again for its strategic location near Mongkok area.

We had a very pleasant stay overall. The hotel's location is absolutely perfect—conveniently situated near landmarks, restaurants, or transportation esp for China Mainland which made getting around super easy and enjoyable. The staff was friendly, the rooms were clean, and the amenities met our expectations. However, we did have one unfortunate experience: the water in the shower was brown one evening, which was disappointing and a bit concerning. It seemed like an isolated incident, but it did affect our overall impression. Despite that, we still think this is a good hotel and would consider staying again, especially because of its excellent location and value.

The location is extremely convenient, I couldn’t imagine the best area to stay in Hong Kong for my first experience here! The hotel is close to bus and subway stations. My hotel room view was 10 out of 10. Unfortunately, there was an incident with my personal belongings when a cleaning lady threw away my water bottles and tripod plastic bag. These items weren’t in the trash bin, I’ve never had such experience with any cleaning service that they take responsibility for throwing away their guests’ things. That incident worsened my impression of the hotel. I didn’t feel like my stuff would be safe and sound inside my hotel room. In general, the hotel is nice to stay in Hong Kong.

Metropark Hotel Mongkok is conveniently located just a 2–3 minute walk from Prince Edward MTR station, though be prepared to carry your luggage up a staircase. The staff were friendly and helpful, especially Ricky at the front desk who gave a warm welcome. The room had a slight musty smell when the air conditioning was off, and the hotel placed multiple air purifiers along the corridor. It would be better if each room had its own. No complimentary drinking water is provided—bottled water costs HKD3 via vending machines, which is cheap for Hong Kong, but only local e-payments are accepted.

This is my 4th stay in a room on the 39th floor. Everything was fine before. Unfortunately, this time I had to spend a lot of time and nerves, which was not part of my plans. The pool on the 39th floor next to the room was used by a homeless person to spend the night. In addition, he smoked, shook ashes into the pool, and drank alcohol. All this happened on the only sun lounger. This is only what I saw passing by in the evening and at night. Unfortunately, the staff could not solve the problem the first time I asked and I had to ask for help at least 5 times. In the end, they offered me to act as a surveillance camera and if a homeless person appears, to inform them. Thank you very much. Of course, I understand the mentality of people in Hong Kong, but in China, I can hardly even imagine such a situation. I strongly advise against using this pool and staying on the top floor due to a serious security breach. Anyone from the street can enter your territory, since it is separated only by a low partition. My things were not in the room, but after entering the door. Unfortunately, after leaving, I discovered that a bottle of perfume was missing. The money and documents were in the safe, everything was fine with them. I think this is due to this person entering my territory. I closed the door to the room at night and the balcony. Perhaps this saved my valuables. In the middle of my vacation, I found a huge cockroach in the bathroom. It was really gigantic. Thanks to the cleaning service. They were able to catch it and take it away. I hope the hotel management will take appropriate measures to ensure the safety of guests. Therefore, I will not give a bad rating to my favorite chain. I usually don't write reviews about hotels. And in such detail. But this time my wife made me write. She serves in the police and is very attentive to security issues. She said that she was very worried about having a stranger nearby. I think this is an exaggeration. She was probably offended that she was not congratulated on her birthday in this hotel, as she is used to in other hotels with a card or a compliment. She just happened to have a birthday when she checked in 😁😁😁

🗓️ Where and When Should You Fill Out the Hong Kong Arrival Card?

West Kowloon Cultural District

Here’s when and where to take care of it — so you’re not stressed out after a long flight.

📍 Where to Fill It Out?

📱 On Your Phone (Best Option)

Do it before your flight, using your phone or laptop.
You can fill it out at home, at the airport lounge, or while waiting at your boarding gate.
Just go to the official website:
👉 www.immd.gov.hk → Look for “Online Arrival Card”

✈️ Before Takeoff or During the Flight

Still haven’t done it? No worries.
If you’ve got Wi-Fi on the plane, you can still access the form. But some budget airlines don’t have internet, so it’s better to do it earlier.

🛬 At Hong Kong Airport (Not Recommended)

Yes, you can do it after landing — there’s free Wi-Fi at HKIA.
But if the signal’s weak or too many people are online, it might be slow. Also, no filling the form = no immigration entry. So better to do it before you arrive.

When Should You Fill It Out?

📅 1 to 3 Days Before You Land

You can only submit the form within 72 hours (3 days) of your arrival in Hong Kong.
If you try too early, it won’t go through.
Best timing? Fill it out the night before your flight. Fast, simple, done.

✅ Show a return flight or onward ticket (can be on your phone or printed)
✅ If you’re traveling onward (like to Macau or another country), have proof ready
Heads up: If you’re on a one-way ticket, be ready to explain — they might ask extra questions.

🛃 3. Visa (If Needed)

Filipinos can enter Hong Kong visa-free for up to 14 days
✅ If you’re from another country or staying longer, check visa rules
Reminder: Immigration may ask for proof of accommodation or funds, even if you don’t need a visa.

🧳 Tips for a Smooth Arrival in Hong Kong

Tian Tan Buddha

Hong Kong immigration is fast and efficient — as long as you’re prepared. Here’s some real-world advice to help you get through without stress or delays:

1. Fill Out the Hong Kong Arrival Card Before You Land

It’s online only now — no paper forms on the plane.

📝 You’ll need:

  • Passport
  • Flight number
  • Where you're staying

Real tip: Do it 1 to 3 days before you arrive. Takes just 5 minutes on your phone.
Website: www.immd.gov.hk

📲 2. Screenshot the Confirmation Page

After you submit the Arrival Card, you’ll see a confirmation screen.
Take a screenshot — just in case the system has issues or you need to show proof.

🏨 3. Know Where You’re Staying

Immigration officers may ask you:

  • “Where will you stay in Hong Kong?”
  • “How many days are you here?”
  • “What’s the purpose of your visit?”

Be ready with a short answer like:
🗣️ “I’m staying at Dorsett Mongkok for 5 days — just sightseeing.”
Don’t overthink it — they just want to confirm you have a plan.

📱 4. Save Travel Info on Your Phone

Keep everything handy — even offline:
✅ Flight ticket
✅ Hotel booking
✅ Passport photo (backup)
✅ Travel insurance or contact info

Pro tip: Take screenshots. Don’t rely on Wi-Fi or mobile data at the airport.

😊 5. Be Early, Stay Cool, and Keep Everything Together

Hong Kong airport is big, and immigration lines can get long during peak hours.

So:
🕐 Arrive early at the airport, especially if you’re connecting elsewhere
📂 Keep all your travel docs in one pouch or folder
😌 Stay calm, answer questions clearly, and be respectful

🥳 Pro Tip: Getting a Hong Kong eSIM can help you stay connected while traveling in Hong Kong.
