I stayed in a Japanese-style room in this hotel 10 years ago and it was a very good experience. I booked a double room this time. The facilities were a bit outdated. There was a musty smell when I first entered the room. Just spray it with the deodorant on the table and it will be fine. The location of the hotel is very good. It is in the center of Tochigi. It is only a few minutes away from the Babami River and the old prefectural office. There is a department store across the street. There is a 24-hour convenience store in two or three minutes' walk. The train station is about one kilometer away.
Went for work, staff wasn’t the nicest but were accommodating enough - the night staff was a little rude, but the morning staff the next day was kind enough. I had time to kill in the lobby, where there were free massage chairs, though they were a little beaten up.
There were food and drink dispensers as well as a hot water heater and microwave for use. There are also public onsen style baths that I did not take advantage of, but they had many selections.
The room I stayed in was nothing special, but was fine for the night I was staying. The location is not great but not terrible, as there is a supermarket nearby open until midnight
My biggest piece of advice would be to rent a car if you are staying here; I took a cab then walked to the station the next day after my business in the area was done
Definitely one of the closest if not the closest accommodation within station. The owner also operates a bar right beside the accommodation so if you want to have late night chat or get together, its not a problem.
The bed is also heated, which is desirable during the winter or cold weather.
The only downside is there is no dedicated front desk. You have to call their phone number if they are not around. If not for other waiting travelers who have japanese phone, we could have been waiting for hours.
① The toilet and bath are unit baths
② The toilet is not a washlet type but a normal one
③ Quiet and relaxing
④ Close to the station and easy to move around by elevator
⑤ The front desk is on the second floor
⑥ The staff are foreigners, so they can speak basic Japanese, but it is difficult to understand
⑦ Smoking is allowed in most rooms, but there is no smell
⑧ Table taps extend from under the bed, so charging is easy
⑨ One bottle of water is free
⑩ The 5th floor has free water and desks where you can work
The hotel is located far away from Ashikaga Station. It is a straight road with pedestrian paths, but it takes 15 minutes to walk to push suitcases. The room facilities are relatively old, and it is family-run and only speaks simple English.
A very atmospheric homestay in the mountains, with many foreigners staying. There is a stove in the lobby on the first floor. The weather was over 10 degrees, and they also prepared electric blankets, which made the sleep very comfortable. The air outside was fresh and the surrounding scenery was also very good. I went out for a walk in the morning~
It's close to the station. I went by car, so I used the paid parking lot behind the building. It was 500 yen per night. The room was well-cleaned and clean. The amenities were also plentiful. I'd like to use it again when I go to Tochigi City.
The room is large according to Japanese standards. The reservation is Trip.com with a private bathroom, actual stay, public bathroom, but after communication with Trip.com , the problem has been solved. Nozaki is small. The nearest convenience store is ten minutes walk
Some new things, but it was a really great hotel and the staff were able to use it comfortably
However, the bathroom capacity was too narrow, especially the women side was always crowded and could not enter when they wanted to enter.
I think there are some temporal things and it is difficult to improve, but it is best if there is a large bath in the separate building
I think the system that can check the congestion status in real time is great.
i'm sorry, i'm just asking for it.
It is a great hotel that I really want to give you a full score. Thank you very much

Jjlow123Most of the reviews are outdated so I thought I'd give an updated review. For one thing, there is WiFi (I have informed the landlady that the website indicates otherwise).
This place is a traditional-style inn. You'll be sleeping in a futon (some Google-fu should help you know how to use one), use two pairs of slippers (one for moving around the house, one exclusively for the toilet) and will also bathe in a Japanese-style shared bathroom. The front gate and bathroom close at 10pm, which is not an issue as everywhere in Nikko closes early and it's too dark to hike outdoors (in early Autumn).
We loved using the onsen to relax after a day of strolling around and hiking, and the delicious Japanese-style breakfast was lovingly prepared by a friendly old granny. The premises are old but well-maintained. Toilets, bathroom and onsen were great but we were there during off-peak season so we didn't need to share so much. Should we return to Nikko, this place will be our first choice!

CCasual travellerLocation is super, very near to Nikko Station, room is adequate if traveling with very light bag pack. Hotel has a small onsen facility (bathhouse), do check with the counter staff on the operating hours. There are nearby super-mart (family mart is just across the road and another one within walking distance) which makes it great to get snacks for the night. Shops/cafe closes relatively early.
GGuest Userthe inn is managed by a small family.
The room i got was considerably larger than i expected. Food was exceptionally great, the innkeeper was very considerate to accomodate to my request to replace the original pork patty meal with pasta. They were also very kind enough to give me free handwarmer when i mentioned that i was looking for it at any store around for my hike to mt nantai.
Highly recommended

GGuest UserThe whole place is very warm and super Japanese, as if you are in Chibi Maruko-chan and Nobita's home!
The lady boss was super nice. After asking us where we wanted to go, she also recommended how we should get there.
If have chance, i will go back again🥰
NNieva MayThe place is a 25-30 minute walk from the Tobu Nikko station, but you can actually take bus going there. However we didn't know the buses only run until 3 in the afternoon so we had no choice but to walk an uphill road. However it was a very fun experience and the hike was worth it as soon as we were able to take a rest in this humble pension house. The owner was very accommodating, gave us strawberry ice cream and even offered us a ride to the station the next morning. I would say that this place gave us the best definition of ”omotenashi”. Someday when we go back in Nikko , we'll surely stay here once again.
AAlly2023Service was excellent! Some staff can speak English. Busy hotel but got enough parking. Location is convenient, there are restaurant nearby. Room is semi-double but we got enough space. Got breakfast however the breakfast time is pretty early from 6am to 8:30am. (Check out time is 10am) We went down at 7:45am, but food was almost gone, but staff no refill anymore, this might need to be improved. Also the room inside and the bathroom are a bit old, carpet is a bit dirty, this might need to be improved too. But overall, its pretty good to stay a few nights.
GGuest UserThe guesthouse is quite a way from Nikko town (10-15 mins by bus / 1 hour walk) but is in a good location for getting to the shrines or to Lake Ashi - there's a bus stop close by. The guesthouse was homely and had 2 private onsen. Our room was comfortable enough although the en-suite was very tiny! The host was welcoming but didn't speak any English which meant we had to communicate by translating on our phones. We booked to have breakfast at the guesthouse, but didn't realise that for booking the dinner we needed to give 24 hours+ notice so missed out!
PPINGLocation: 12 minutes walk from Tobu Kinugawa Station, you will see a 711 next to the bridge (it seems to be the only convenience store nearby), the hotel is just across the bridge!
Hotel facilities: very old, compared to other hot spring hotels and Japanese-style rooms, both in-room and out-of-room facilities. There are blood spots on the Japanese puffy quilt, which may not be washed off. The washroom is also very old.
Hotel hot springs: showers and indoor hot springs are on the second floor, and open-air hot springs on the first floor. As mentioned above, the two hot springs are not connected, that is, if you go to the open air after washing the second floor, you have to put on your clothes and go straight to the first floor, which is not convenient. And it’s really cold in winter. The private bath on the roof is free to soak in a room for 30 minutes. The board is very slippery and easy to wrestle! It's nice to see the stars.
Hotel Catering: Breakfast and dinner are all buffets, everything is ordinary, so honest. Fortunately, I am not picky, I have everything I like. Don't even think about a sumptuous meal like a set meal. It feels like a cafeteria. But the meal time is really too early. Dinner is from 17:00 to 18:30, and breakfast is from 7 to 8:30. Too late to eat.
