The hygiene was so-so. When I entered, there was a hair on the pillow, which made me seriously doubt if they change the linens after every guest. I went to the front desk, and they changed my room. They said to compensate for my experience, they would offer a free room cleaning for the next day, valued at 1500 yen. Right, they don't clean during your stay unless you pay extra.
Service was practically non-existent. Check-in at the front desk was done via self-service machines.
The room definitely wasn't the square footage they advertised.
If it were around 400-500 [currency, likely yen], I think it would be acceptable, as the location is indeed very good. The private onsen uses fresh water but isn't cleaned. It's not reservation-based either; it's first-come, first-served.
Basically, on weekends, you'll only find fewer people after midnight. Otherwise, you'll have to queue at the entrance and wait a considerable amount of time.
This is a newly opened hotel with a strong industrial aesthetic. It's super conveniently located near Beppu JR Station, less than a 5-minute walk away. The hot spring is excellent and not crowded, making for a wonderfully relaxing soak. The room itself is exceptionally spacious and offers distant ocean views. All of this comes at a fantastic price. If I visit Beppu again, I'll definitely stay here. As for breakfast, well, personally, I found it just average.
Hello, everyone!
We recently stayed at this hotel, and the experience was mixed — there are some nice touches, but also noticeable shortcomings.
**Room:**
The room was spacious but clearly outdated; furniture and interior look worn. The ventilation works, yet it still feels quite stuffy inside. It would be great if the hotel improved air-conditioning or installed mosquito screens: the sea view is beautiful, but opening the window isn’t an option because of too many insects.
**Facilities & Service:**
The only real extras are massage service and a shared onsen. There’s no gym, pool, or other activities — the hotel is designed for quiet relaxation. A shuttle service is available, which is convenient, but if you miss it, getting to the hotel on your own can be quite difficult. During this stay the hotel was quite busy, and it often took a long time to catch the elevator to our floor.
**Dining:**
Breakfast and dinner can be pre-booked; the food was tasty and varied. The bar offers a pleasant atmosphere with a decent drink selection, and in the evening the lobby lounge opens with alcoholic drinks and light snacks — a nice way to unwind after a day of sightseeing.
**Location:**
The property faces Beppu Bay, yet the seaside feeling is limited — there are few walking areas nearby, and due to insects it’s hard to enjoy the open air.
**Overall:**
A good option for a calm, onsen-style getaway with decent food and polite staff, but when the hotel is crowded, the lack of facilities and outdated rooms become more noticeable. With some modernization and better infrastructure, this could be an excellent resort.
Very nice modern style ryokan nestled in the hills of Beppu. Rooms are very nice and big, with our private onsen bathroom. We opted for the dinner and breakfast, and they were both pretty good and tasty.
What a pleasant surprise. Rex Hotel Beppu , from entering the hotel til the end (luggage pickup) the experience we had here was beyond excellent. I will bring my family here next time. 😃
Spacious rooms (36m²) and a huge bed. The bathroom was a nice size as well. The #1 complaint was the room was freezing; the bathroom has a window and doesn't seem insulated in any way, the draft definitely came from there. The bath tub room had some hair and dried residue on the floor, wasn't too thrilled to see... The separate toilet room was fine. #2 would be the walk to the hotel, slight uphill (but easy) and maybe 13-17min walk from Yufuin Station [was an enjoyable walk though]. Would recommend if you don't mind the daily walk.

Everything was perfect.
The location is perfect, right next to the Kawasaki bus stop. The Toyonokuni Expressway Bus makes traveling between Fukuoka Airport and Hakata Tenjin easy, much more convenient than taking the JR train.
There are quite a few restaurants nearby, including a large 7-Eleven across the street and a supermarket about 700 to 800 meters away.
The overall ambiance is classic Japanese, quiet and peaceful. The rooms are all single-family houses. Although the room we were assigned was slightly different from what I had seen when booking, with only a semi-open-air onsen, we were traveling with just my daughter and me, so one onsen was more than enough.
The staff was very friendly and provided detailed information.
The only downside was that there was a light-transmitting window above my bed, with no curtains, which caused me to wake up early every morning. However, this wasn't a big deal for me, so I give it a full rating. Highly recommended!
This was my second trip to Yufuin with my mother and family. Ten years ago, I stayed at the Yamano-kan Hotel, and this time I stayed at the Ryotei Tanokura Hotel. Only after checking in did I realize they were from the same group. The two hotels are connected, with a total of four hot spring baths. However, perhaps because it wasn't peak season, we had the men's hot spring bath to ourselves twice a day, morning and evening. The wooden, rustic, pure Japanese style offered a tranquil experience.
The biggest advantage is its proximity to Lake Kinrin, within 100 meters.
The butler service was very attentive and considerate, providing round-trip transportation from the station.
The food was as expected in terms of quality and taste.
The hotel is beautiful, the room has a hot spring, in addition you can book another hot spring for family use. It is recommended to stay two days to enjoy the hotel itself. Breakfast included, was service, lots of food, the whole table, staff super nice.
It is a bit troublesome to get in and out of the hotel, to call a taxi, around 1000yen, several people share is ok. if you wanna bike there, it is almost impossible because there are some hills in between the hotel and the town. The only drawback is that the hotel has no shuttle service and is a little expensive. But the environment is beautiful, clean, good service.
The hotel is a group of small villas. Although it is in the city, there are rice fields in front of the door. There is a private hot spring and sauna room downstairs, indoors and outdoors. Upstairs is a double bed and two tatami beds. The tatami beds need to be made by yourself, and someone will put them away in the morning. The cleaning time is 11:00-15:00. According to the front desk, it takes several people to prepare for such a long time, so the hygiene is very good, and all bedding is changed every day. The only drawback is that the hotel does not provide meals and does not have a washing and drying machine. There is a microwave in the room, so it is convenient to buy food in advance and heat it up. To wash clothes, you need to go to coin laundry 200 meters away. It is a great hotel and I will go there again if I have the chance. The front desk is very good. I ask them to help call a car and book a restaurant every day.

GGuest UserThe staff members were all very friendly and welcoming. The hotel overall was very cozy, particularly the onsens. Although all the four onsens were opened for all guests at the hotel, you can use one of them as long as you want because guests are instructed to hang a sign on the onsen to show that it is currently occupied. This is a great way for the guests to enjoy privacy to themselves, although it is opened publicly. Dinner and breakfast was included in the package so we did not have to worry about finding nearby restaurants. The food was delicious here! Would definitely recommend if you enjoy traditional Japanese meals to get the full experience. We had a private barbecue for dinner, and it was truly immaculate! However, there was smoke all over the hotel lobby coming from the barbecue so it would have been better if they kept the windows opened. It was also indoors so it was slightly overwhelming with all the smoke everywhere in the restaurant. But everything else was on point and breakfast was particularly delicious.

AAnonymous UserThe staff was friendly and courteous. The hotel provides a shuttle bus to and from Yufuin Station, but reservations are required.
The accommodation is one night with two meals, but the food quality is average. At HK$3,000 per night, it's a relatively low value.
