The location is perfect! There’s a local food court and several eateries just a short walk away, which makes it super convenient to grab a meal anytime. From hearty local dishes to quick snacks, everything was easily accessible without needing to travel far.
The room was clean and spacious, and I was pleasantly surprised to find a small living area included—it added an extra touch of comfort and space to relax after a long day.
Minor downside: The hotel is located near a busy junction, so do expect traffic jams during peak hours if you’re driving.
Overall, I had a great experience. The hotel was comfortable, well-maintained, and in a very convenient spot. Would definitely recommend to travelers looking for comfort and easy access to food options.
New hotel in a prime location. 2-min walking distance to Vantage Point and iSantoriny where can find many nice restaurants, cafes, massage, hait salons.
2-min drive to Strait Quay and Island 88. 20-min to Batu Ferringhi. Very strategic location.
The room is clean. But the pool is very small with pillars in the middle of the pool, so not suitable for children to swim - if just soak in the water is ok. Gym is spacious.
No restaurant on-site, only a small bakery that is going to close down soon. Breakfast is only a coffee and a bun from the bakery.
Satisfying stay, good security, magnificent Penang bridge view from the balcony and window of the master bed room… but morning Muslim prayer from the nearby mosque may wake one up very early. Room service is top notch, more efficient than a 5 star international hotel. Nice comfortable resort feel lounge with a hot and cold drinking water dispenser, lounge is also equipped with 2 pool tables, a gym, table tennis table and bats, badminton/basketball court, a swimming pool and a small waterfall koi pond. Snacks and breakfast are sold at a cost.
My last stay at Ascott Gurney Penang was in Oct 2024. I travelled with a girlfriend and it was my first time staying. The experience was fantastic (the room view, the service provided, the cleanliness of the room, the pool and gym facilities etc) thus, this time I brought back my family and my in-laws to stay again (3 rooms).
Was slightly disappointed this time.
1. The rooms assigned this time were not great, all low floors and the views were restricted (my last stay the room view was superb!)
2. There were lots of birds in the swimming pool area and I think the hotel should do something about it. There were droppings on the floor around the pool and after swimming for a short while, I felt uncomfortable as I could see something floating in the pool as well so I left….
3. On the 2nd day morning, servicing staff promptly made up my room but not on the 3nd day morning. I was out between 10am to 1pm and was surprised to see that the room was not cleaned. I had to personally go down to the front desk to make the request to clean up…
But overall, the service was still good, staff were courteous and helpful in general.
I recommended Ascott Gurney to my husband this time, but he was quite disappointed with Ascott Gurney Penang, especially with reasons listed above and still prefer The George Penang where we stayed in end 2023 instead.
Although the photos and reality were different, the window-less rooms were still adequate for comfortable staying. We stayed for 3 nights in a level 4 deluxe double room and level 3 double room, all ensuite with bathrooms. Due to the lack of exhaust fans and windows, the internal bathrooms can cause dampness and a smell but that was ok for us. A pet friendly Guesthouse (many of our neighbours had dogs but they were very quiet and well managed). Now managed by 3 service staffs who do everything. A retro but working games machine at the ground floor was a delight for my kids. Free laundry & dryer and a simple fitness corner are useful amenities. The highlight is actually the location of this guesthouse - within walking distance, there are numerous dim sum outlets, night time street foods, noodles shop, bakery and a sports bar just across the road. Will stay again, anytime, for my next visit.
I had a great experience at this hotel. The room was clean, tidy, and comfortable. There's a 24-hour mart just downstairs, which makes it super easy to grab snacks or drinks anytime.
The location is excellent – lots of popular restaurants and night markets are within walking distance. Perfect for food lovers!
A few things to keep in mind:
The TV isn’t a smart TV, so only local channels are available
No conditioner provided, and the shampoo can be a bit drying – if you have long hair, it’s better to bring your own
Overall, a very convenient and pleasant place to stay. Would recommend for anyone visiting the area!
The hotel is modern and very pretty! Love the decoration and design. It’s clean, the bed is comfortable (not the pillow) and I love the shower water pressure and the idea of having water dispenser for sustainability drive.
A few things that disappointed a little:
1. Was assigned to room 212 which is located close to lift, I barely slept on the first night. One group of guests walked pass ard 12:50am and were talking and laughing so loudly, followed by the loud door closing sound (no soft closing). Then another group came back around 1:45am and I woke up because of the loud door opening and closing sound (3 times)…the aircon was centralised and quite cold, tried adjusting to higher temperature with lower volume but the control parcel is useless. The pillow was not comfortable also, the cotton was not even, too high for my liking. Morning 8:45am the house keeping person tried accessing the store room and entered the wrong PIN code for a few times and the beeping sound was non stop and I woke up again :(
2. Thankfully we were changed to another room at level 3, I managed to sleep better for the 2nd and 3rd night. But when we came back on Day 3, I wanted to watch TV but the remote control was missing. We called the front desk for a few times but no answer around 11pm, had to go down and request for the remote control to be delivered to my room. Guess what, we waited for 15 mins but no one came, called again and finally the house keeping staff showed up after 5 mins. Then when we opened the door, he asked us multiple times that why it’s missing and even requested us to check drawers etc. we searched everywhere before we called, only being accused after waiting for 20 mins. Then waited another 5 mins for him to get a new one and came back. So speechless…
3. I like the free coffee service that they offer, however there’s no food options and no room service. Most of the nearby shops close early and it’s quite hard to find for food at night if you are hungry
4. Not all the staffs are very friendly, the lady receptionist that we encountered was not super friendly and helpful. She told me that when we came down, the replacement room would be ready but it’s not, I waited for another 5 mins standing there until she got everything sorted out. Felt that she was unwilling to help
Recommended sangat2. Ada TIME, laju nk access internet. Tv streaming apps. View lawa. Deco lawa. Selesa sangat. Toilet bersih. Receptionist baikkkk n mesra. Runner was excellent bila minta bantuan untuk hidup kan api dapur, x reti sangat sebab dapur terlalu canggih 🫣 confirm akan repeat lagi.
Such a great hotel has very few reviews on Ctrip. The hotel I booked before was not accepted due to some reasons. Ctrip helped me switch to this hotel. I was a little nervous at first. The storefront is very small and I almost didn't find it, but there is something special once I enter. It is very unique. I heard from the taxi driver that this building has a history of a hundred years and was later renovated and turned into a hotel. It is really amazing! The overall feeling is clean and quiet. There is a Chinese-speaking front desk and the service is very good. It introduces in detail the surrounding places to eat and buy things. The yard has a unique landscape and the swimming pool is small and exquisite. Breakfast is different every day. Go to the lady at the front desk to choose one day in advance. Although it is not a buffet, it is definitely enough and tastes very, very good! There are many foreigners living here, and during breakfast I felt like I was in Europe rather than Southeast Asia! The room has a single bed and a double bed. If you are a family of three with children, if the child is over 5 years old, an additional 80 per day will be charged. In this way, the room service will help us prepare bedding for the single bed and prepare an extra breakfast! Mineral water and capsule coffee are provided in the room every day. After room service, a small snack will be placed on the quilt, which is very cute and warm! The bedding is comfortable and the bath supplies are good!
The location is in the center of George Town, very close to the famous 88 Prawn Noodles. There is a large shopping mall, a large supermarket, 711, and Fu Lu Shou Cake Shop nearby. It takes 20 minutes to walk to Mural Street and take a taxi to several nearby check-in spots for more than 10 yuan. can!
I communicated with the boss via WeChat, but he was not very enthusiastic. He didn't respond to my inquiries about local issues. There was only one local boy working as a waiter in the B&B. When I asked if I could use the washing machine, he said it would cost 40 RM per time. A deposit of RM 80 was required to enter the store, which was quite inconvenient. In short, the service was lacking and it was just average.
