The front desk staff were quick and professional during check-in, showing a wonderfully warm and proactive service attitude. I really liked the room's layout; it was bright, sun-facing, and fully equipped. The hygiene was meticulously maintained, ensuring a comfortable and worry-free stay. Transportation in the surrounding area is very convenient. After checking out, I realized I had forgotten something, and they called me immediately – incredibly thoughtful and attentive! Highly recommended!
The location is excellent, and the garden villa setting is quite charming. There's a quaint cafe and a villa-style restaurant right at the entrance, giving off a very vintage vibe. It seemed like a popular spot for young women to take photos.
However, perhaps due to it being an older property, our room had a distinct musty smell. The room was small; if you're traveling with a lot of luggage, I'd highly recommend booking a larger room type, as there wasn't even enough space to properly open our suitcases. The bedside table and walls showed visible signs of mold, which was extremely uncomfortable. I strongly suggest the management addresses this issue.
Regarding service: We arrived past 9 PM and couldn't find parking. We called the front desk, and a staff member came out. But after watching us park, she simply vanished, leaving us to search for the reception for quite some time. We were expecting complimentary welcome drinks or restaurant vouchers, but neither was offered nor even mentioned. They didn't even tell us when or where breakfast was served 🥲😂. Breakfast was also very basic. While it was enough to fill us up, it wasn't anything special.
A week at Ascott Hengshan Road felt like having a home nestled under the shade of plane trees. The apartment-style rooms truly cater to the needs of longer stays—the open kitchen allows for simple cooking, and a washing machine and dryer are fully provided. Spending weekends lounging on the sofa, watching the plane tree leaves sway outside the window, felt so much more comfortable and relaxing than a standard hotel.
The location is absolutely superb; Hengshan Road Metro Station is just a three-minute walk downstairs, making it convenient for getting to Jing'an Temple and Xujiahui. In the evening, a stroll to the nearby old villa district, as the streetlights came on and the shadows of the plane trees danced on the red brick walls, created an absolutely enchanting atmosphere.
The concierge staff were incredibly thoughtful, even providing a handwritten list of recommended local shops. My only minor suggestion would be for the bedroom curtains to be a bit more blackout. But overall, it's absolutely perfect for anyone wanting to experience Shanghai at a leisurely pace. I'll definitely stay here again on my next visit.

Facilities: New and well-maintained. A washing machine and dryer are available, and complimentary bottled water is offered for self-service.
Cleanliness: Spotless, with prompt housekeeping.
Location: Excellent. It's very close to Xujiahui Metro Station, surrounded by numerous restaurants and tourist attractions.
Service: Warm and thoughtful. When a noisy guest next door disturbed me (I'm sensitive to noise), they promptly found another room for me to rest. Their timely and efficient problem-solving is highly commendable.
I will definitely choose Tianping Hotel again on my next trip to Shanghai!
I had previously stayed here for business before the pandemic and had a fantastic impression, which is why I specifically chose to return this time with friends visiting from overseas. The service is still as attentive and excellent as it was six years ago. However, the facilities are starting to show their age. I hope that the renovated building will be completed by my next visit, and I look forward to experiencing it then. On our first night, two friends came to visit. They were thirsty, so we asked for an extra cup of tea, but a male manager on duty that night took issue with it. It was just one cup of tea – surely there was no need to be so particular about it! Aside from this, everything else was very good.
I've had my eye on Black Stone M+ for a while, and after winning a 'Le You Shanghai' voucher, I immediately came to check it out! Fortunately, I received a complimentary room upgrade, and my stay was excellent. The front desk staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming. The room itself was very clean and tidy, and the complex was quite peaceful. Breakfast was a semi-buffet, and it's also conveniently located not far from the metro station. Overall, I had a fantastic experience. A great bonus is that your room key grants you discounts at select shops and restaurants within the complex!
The hotel's biggest selling point is its location; it's right outside Exit 3 of Hengshan Road Station on Metro Line 1. However, the hotel is quite dated and not well-maintained.
I was initially assigned a room on the second floor. Upon entering, there was a strong musty odor, and I noticed mold around the faucet. I called the front desk, and they said they'd address the smell, but all they did was spray air freshener. The combination of mildew and air freshener was truly awful, so I requested a room change. I was moved to the third floor, but that room also had a musty smell. They then offered to bring an air purifier. Fine, I suppose I'll just have to tolerate it for the night.

I'm thoroughly impressed with my stay! As a Shanghai local, I chose this hotel to celebrate my birthday. Having practically stayed at all the upscale hotels in Shanghai, I was keen to try this one, which just opened in 2025. Before checking in, I was actually quite apprehensive, knowing that its public facilities weren't quite sufficient for regular guests.
I had booked a Deluxe Terrace King Room, and I'm very grateful that the front desk upgraded me to the 65-sqm Wutong Suite. I was pleased with the room type I received. Honestly, the decor itself didn't quite exceed my expectations of luxury. While satisfactory, the furnishing felt rather ordinary compared to other luxury hotels I've experienced. This was actually one of my initial concerns upon checking in, as both the public facilities and the rooms didn't seem luxurious enough.
However, after actually staying there, I realized every single detail was perfectly executed! It's true that the devil is in the details; things like the in-room amenities and the furniture brands truly impressed me. For instance, upon check-in, we were provided with two glass bottles of Evian water. When we called the front desk for more mineral water, we expected a standard brand. To our surprise, the additional water was also Evian. These 'soft' touches in service made me feel that the service was exceptionally thoughtful and attentive. Since it was my birthday, they also provided a birthday welcome amenity including fruit, cake, a card, and a customized leather cover with personalized gold-stamped text.
What truly stood out was their breakfast. Of all the five-star hotels I've stayed in, this is the only one that offers complimentary breakfast until 2 PM. I've never encountered anything like it! This was incredibly satisfying. It's a semi-buffet style where you can order as much as you like – they'll happily serve you. The food presentation was exquisite and delicate, and the taste was equally impressive. It's a far cry from the crude, often disappointing buffets found at many standard five-star hotels. Bravo! I truly hope more five-star hotels adopt this amazing practice of offering free breakfast until 2 PM. Absolutely thrilled!
On the downside, many of the hotel's public facilities aren't directly accessible to regular guests. For instance, there are theaters, banquet halls, venues belonging to the 'Addiction Group,' or spaces for hosting events. While they are available for viewing, guests can't actually use them; they often aren't lit or air-conditioned. In essence, these seemingly impressive venues are off-limits to typical hotel guests. They are reserved for events like the Shanghai Film Festival or corporate brand activities. For regular guests, these spaces are essentially ceremonial and serve no practical purpose, which I find quite a shame. However, guests can access their executive lounge, which offers snacks, coffee, and other beverages. The one drawback there is the lack of alcoholic drinks, which is a real pity.
During our stay, we encountered a few issues and approached the front desk. Their attitude was excellent, and they promptly offered solutions. I felt that our needs were genuinely valued, which was very satisfying. While I did feel that paying ¥2600 for the room was a bit steep given the limited public facilities – indeed, the price is on the higher side – the 'devil in the details' service quality was superb. This is why, despite my initial reservations, I'm still leaving a very high rating and will definitely recommend this hotel to my friends.
Two of life's greatest joys – our marriage registration and my wife's birthday – perfectly converged at Capella Shanghai! Looking back, choosing this place was hands down the smartest decision I've made in the last decade, almost as brilliant as marrying my wife (kidding, mostly!).
Even before our trip officially began, my 'dedicated planner,' Ethan, had already sprung into action. Upon hearing the significance of our visit, he became even more excited than I was, brainstorming countless ideas and truly treating our anniversary as his personal project. The surprise he orchestrated moved my wife to tears and, incidentally, made me, the 'delegator,' look like a hero!
Upon our arrival, Carrie's warm welcome was the perfect icing on the cake. She guided us through the Shikumen alleyways, beautifully recounting stories of old Shanghai's charm and French elegance. We instantly felt less like guests and more like time-traveling explorers, deeply immersed in history.
I must say, thanks to the incredible efforts of Ethan and Carrie – truly superstars – and the entire staff, we experienced an unparalleled level of responsiveness and bespoke customization throughout our stay. This trip, celebrating our double joy, concluded perfectly, all thanks to you! I want to wholeheartedly commend Ethan and Carrie once more; your dedication truly made our significant moments sparkle!
The hotel is in a unique location, located on Tai'an Road, in the middle of a group of historical buildings. It is very close to Wukang Road on foot, and you will pass by a very good Shanghai restaurant.
Environment: The overall building is a historical building, old but unique, with its own small garden. It was very comfortable to sit downstairs at night in April. Or walk to the nearby streets, which are all great historical buildings.
Hygiene: Overall it is okay, but there is a lot of dust under the bed, and there are oil spots on the small sofa fabric, which has room for improvement.
Service: There is a refrigerator in the room, and the drinks placed in advance can be enjoyed for free. Small gifts such as foot patches are also given, which is very warm. Although there are not many types of breakfast, the taste is good and it is comfortable to eat.

FftanLOVED our stay at this beautiful hotel. Rooms are extremely spacious with a gorgeous bathroom. Breakfast is plentiful - even for those who wish to have 12 flavours of ice cream for breakfast. We spent a few hours exploring the hotel grounds and its beautiful gardens. 10/10
GGuest UserPersonal experience, I brought my child from Guizhou to the Affiliated Eye, Ear, Nose and Throat Hospital of Fudan University (Fenyang Campus) for adenoids hypertrophy surgery. Because I was in a hurry, I didn't take pictures of the room. It was close to the hospital, the environment was good, the boss was very enthusiastic and patient, and the luggage storage and delayed check-out could be negotiated in advance. After that, I came to Shanghai twice again, and I contacted him directly to stay. When he didn't have rooms, I had to stay at other places. In comparison, his house is much better than other peers in the same area and price.
GGuest UserThe front desk people are super nice! Not only did he have a good attitude, but when there were no other guests checking in, he also took the initiative to introduce travel options and nearby check-in spots. The location is very convenient to various places. There are convenience stores nearby and the prices are affordable.
MM858173****The room is clean and tidy. The owner's care is hidden in the details. The service is considerate but not intrusive. It feels like living in a home that has been carefully decorated by a friend. The environment, facilities and services are impeccable! Not only was the stay comfortable, but I also felt very warm. I will definitely choose this place again next time I come!
GGuest UserThe hotel is in a good location, on Yueyang Road, very close to the back door of Shanghai Conservatory of Music. This time the hotel room was arranged at the elevator entrance, the door soundproofing is average, and the sound of the corridor can be heard.
Facilities: Normal all-season facilities, chain hotels don't have to worry too much.
Hygiene: Hygiene is good, no problem.
Environment: The hotel lobby is small, but clean and bright. There is only one elevator, the space is small and the running noise is loud, which makes people a little worried.
Service: The front desk staff is warm and polite, and the service is good.
TThomas in ChinaNice hotel in the French Concession area. Great location close to South Shanxi Metro, lots of restaurants and cafes. Rooms comfortable and cleaned daily. Free access to washing machine provided.
