I love this hotel! From the moment we were ushered in from the shuttle coming via Odawara stn, the hotel felt very welcoming. Reception was a large open table that is not your typical hotel reception that feel too formal. we were first brought to the lower bar seating area where it’s comfy sofa seating. Check in took awhile as many guests were received from the hotel shuttle bus (25-30 seater). Staff always check in with us on the progress while we waited. Room came with private onsen though I hope it could have been the natural spring water instead of tap. Love the huge room size thats great for little kids to run around, met my standard of cleanliness as well. Breakfast adequate but not a huge spread which I find pricey at 3900 yen. Some bread, fried jap style fish, somen, cold appetisers, veg dips, fruits, around 6-8 hot dishes including omelette and poached eggs. Yet a lot of drink choices fr milk, soy, juices, teas, etc. we had the set dinner 18000 yen and 15000 yen as both of us had diff menus. Was a 3-4 course dinner, nothing out of this world and we didnt want the hassle of walking out to find food. This was one hotel we found many singaporeans (we are one too) as breakfast and dinnertime in resto is when we started noticing the accents. Nearby is a 7-11 nearby around 300m by foot if you feel peckish in middle of the night. Very pleasant stay, like that they provide mpv service to and fro gora station that would be most main boarding point to other attractions, mind that it runs till 6pm so any later you can take the Hakone Tozan bus which brings you to the pizza resto just a short 50m walk from hotel main road.

I've had the pleasure of staying at several high-end hotels, including the Hakone Gora Byakudan. Without a doubt, Byakudan surpasses its competitors in every aspect. The service, facilities, and genuine care for guests are exceptional. I only wish I could have extended my stay. The room was flawlessly clean, and the bed provided a truly restful night's sleep. The staff were consistently friendly and attentive, readily available to assist with any needs. The hotel's location is convenient, offering easy access to local attractions. Additionally, the complimentary car service to nearby destinations such as art museums and the cable station was a thoughtful touch. The Japanese dinner and breakfast were beyond delicious, featuring a diverse array of options. The snacks and wine bar were equally impressive. I particularly enjoyed the massage chair and the delightful ice-cream selection. I wholeheartedly recommend the Hakone Gora Byakudan to anyone visiting the area

First stop in Hakone! We stayed at Hakone Kowakien Mikawaya Ryokan. It is right there when you get off the mountain bus ”Horaien”. It is very convenient. Check-in is not until 3 o'clock. We arrived early and stored our luggage first. We went to the nearby Okada Museum of Art (8 minutes walk). If you want to visit carefully, you need to stay at least 2 hours. Then we took the bus to the Open-Air Museum (10 minutes by bus). The wind was really strong that day, but we walked around for more than an hour. After we came back, we waited in the hut next to us when we checked in. We were served a cup of tea and a fruit. Someone would take us to the room later and introduce the hotel facilities. The three standard yukatas in the room are S, M and L sizes. Please make sure they fit. The whole hotel is very cold. There is no central air conditioning. The room is heated by the warm air. It is also very cold to walk along the corridor inside the hotel to the large bath and restaurant. We stayed in the hotel for too long. I booked a one-night stay with two meals. The specialty beer, I don't remember what it is called, you can try it, but don't have too high expectations. I think it is just average. I always think Kyoto's beer is delicious. The hotel's hot spring has one indoor pool and one outdoor pool. They are not big. It is a bit crowded for three people. But the water is very clean. There is an hour of free drinks in the cabin at check-in from 9pm to 10pm, including red wine, white wine, whiskey, white wine, orange juice and apple juice. There is also a 24-hour coffee machine. In general, this hotel is worth recommending. It is cost-effective and the service attitude is also good. There is a guy who can speak Chinese.

Ten-yu at Hakone Kowakien is a luxurious escape nestled in nature. The private onsen in every room, featuring Shigaraki-yaki bathtubs, is pure bliss. The infinity onsen on the 6th floor offers breathtaking views, especially at sunset. We loved the teppanyaki dinner at the historic Guest House, a true culinary experience. The serene valley garden is perfect for a relaxing stroll. The staff was attentive and the overall atmosphere was incredibly tranquil. Highly recommend for a rejuvenating getaway! Don't miss the delicious sashimi and crab for breakfast!

This is one of the best ryokan I have ever stayed in. Firstly, the location is right next to Gora Station, less than five minutes walk, which makes a big difference if you've come from, say, Tokyo to Hakone. Additionally, the rooms were comfortable and the private baths/balcony feature available for all rooms is lovely. The Double Western room we stayed in had the best of both worlds with the traditional Japanese bath and a comfortable bed (while futon are fine, we preferred a bed). Finally, the samue monk work clothes the hotel lends you to wear as sleepwear is so comfortable, my only complaint is that there are none available for purchase. Also, the hot spring bath facilities were great. We only used the shared not public ones, but they were clean, beautifully designed, and well ventilated (which is important for not getting overheated). Travellers take note: a lot of restaurants in the area close after 7pm, and the dinner set is on the pricier side, so best to plan your dinner accordingly. The restaurants we did try (notably an udon/soba place) was very good. And the nearby shuttle to Pola Art Museum/13 min from Hakone Open Air Art Museum make this a good hotel for art-lovers. The staff are friendly and helpful too.

I recently stayed at Hotel Odakyu in Hakone and had a mixed experience. On the map, the location seems convenient, but in reality, it's a bit tricky—especially for solo travelers. There are no buses that go directly to the hotel, so you end up walking along the main road in the dark if you're coming back in the evening. There’s no sidewalk, which made it feel unsafe and uncomfortable for me as a single female traveler. That said, the hotel itself is clean and the rooms, while a little outdated, are well-maintained and comfortable. The onsen is a lovely feature with both indoor and outdoor options—definitely a highlight of the stay. Amenities are great and well-stocked, and the traditional Japanese breakfast is beautifully prepared. Just note that it's the same meal every morning, so if you're staying for more than a night or two, it might feel repetitive. One key tip: buses in Hakone don’t run late, so make sure to be back in the area by 6 or 7 PM to avoid the long, dark walk. Personally, I would recommend staying in a more central or populated area of Hakone for better access to restaurants and transit—especially if you're relying on public transportation.

I did enough research for this trip to Japan, so let me tell you about the advantages and disadvantages of the hotel: Advantages: 1. The hotel is in the mountains and the surroundings are very quiet. 2. The hotel provides hot spring bathing, and you can experience one night and two meals. The food is also very unique, you will definitely be full, and the taste is also good. At the same time, there is a free minibar in the lobby, and drinks are free to drink. 3. It is a pure Japanese hotel, and it has a unique flavor to try something new. 4. The price of one night and two meals is relatively cheap among Hakone hot spring hotels, and it is relatively cost-effective. You can consider it. Disadvantages: 1. Although the hotel is only a 5-minute walk from the Kami-Gora tram station, the so-called tram station is the Hakone ”Mountain Cable Car”, which runs every 20 minutes during the day and ends at 18:00 in the evening. After 18:00, you can only take the ”Mountain Cable Car” to Gora Station, and then climb the mountain for more than 20 minutes to the hotel... So in fact, the hotel transportation is very inconvenient, so it is quiet. 2. There are only Japanese people at the front desk of the hotel. There is English service, but I complain that although the Japanese pay attention to the service, the efficiency is really slow. I arrived at the hotel at 3 pm. The first 3 groups of guests checked in and waited in line for 45 minutes... At the same time, there are also time regulations for dining. I personally understand that I can't accept the Japanese concept, so my personal experience of the service is relatively poor. For reference only. 3. Although public hot springs are provided, the hot spring pool is relatively small, with only 2 positions. As shown in the picture, the water temperature in the morning is OK, and the hot spring water temperature is a bit cold in the afternoon and evening. In summary, this hotel is suitable for staying for more than 2 nights, with good value for money, and you can quietly experience the beauty of Hakone. However, the transportation is inconvenient. If you are traveling with a lot of bags, you must do your homework and calculate the timetables for trams, buses, etc. in advance. If you miss a bus and wait, you will really go crazy.

Hotel experience was mixed. Positive: the hotel site has a lot of history, the Japanese garden was beautiful and the best part of the hotel. The included meals were good but not spectacular - yet the setting with a view of the Japanese garden was beautiful Negative: the facility was dated with little catch up updares. Only one lock key can be provided n made my wife n my visit to the Onsen very inconvenient as we had to wait for each other all times. The outdoor access for men Onsen had to go thru a common area for men n women so need to re-clothe to get thru, not great. Facility for the Onsen bath were dated n worn out. The in room lighting was dim n equipment facility visibly outdated. The worst was I discovered a big size cockcroach in the bathroom when I got back from Onsen bath in the morning. Smashed it n picture enclosed. We had high expectations coming in to the hotels with strong recommendations by Japanese friends. Was quite underwhelmed. I had stayed at other well rated Ryokans before n most have met or exceeded my expectation. This one fell far short of it.

GGuest UserThis ryokan is perfect for people who want to experience ryokan for the first time but want something cheaper within Hakone area. Situated on the main road with buses to Owakudani and train to Odawara. I'd recommend catching the bus from Odawara to this ryokan since the walking trail from the closest station to this place is hilly and has lots of stairs. Main road is not very luggage friendly so pack very light when you're staying here. This place has very nice rooms with view to the river behind it. The view is spectacular when the entire river area is covered in red autumn leaves. Dinner and breakfast are very delicious, you will be served a range of traditional food from a la carte to dessert. You can also book your private indoor onsen FOR FREE. The ryokan also has an open outdoor onsen across the bridge for 3000 JPY. The only downside of this place is the main road is very busy as it's the only way for people to drive from Odawara to Owakudani. So local people take this road to get to Owakudani. Buses from this place will not stop at there in the weekend. Your best plan is to go to Lake Ashi first and take the opposite route to Owakudani instead. Plan your trip in this area very carefully because a bus trip that would take 10-15 minutes will end up taking you 1 to 1.5 hours.

Xxy.fftThe service was really good, we had to drive from Tokyo so it took a while and we were kinda delayed by traffic for a bit due to it being one lane. Our hosts are really kind and help with parking our cars and bringing us our luggages. Although we thought it was advertised as a hotel, it's actually a ryokan. Really apologetic for the inconvenience from us during our stay there, we checked in late and even came back late during one of the night - resulting in us missing dinner service (they even set up and left some food for us). We also wanted to leave for the convenience store close to midnight, only to find out that the doors are all shut, we didn't want to make them do extra work so we went back to our rooms. The rooms are great and the views are so beautiful, it's amazing to wake up to such greenery / mountain view. Breakfast and dinner service will be in the rooms and the staff will help us lay and keep our futons as well. I had the chance to soak in one of the private baths, it was really relaxing and nice, warms me right up since it was around 10 degrees in the autumn. Amenities provided are very adequate as well, even in the baths (public/private). Besides all that, there's a lounge area with massage chairs, it was the best thing ever, highly recommend to try it during your stay. It's more convenient if you drive, there are convenience stores are few mins drive away. The entrance from the road is a really sharp bend so you need to take note in case you missed it. Plenty of parking space as well, wouldn't be a concern during your stay. Shoes are removed right at the lobby and kept by the staffs, very homely vibes. Overall a pleasant stay with them and would love for more people to experience what I've experienced. Thank you to all staff and hosts who made it possible. If there's a chance, I'd love to visit again.

Amazing
TTimothyIf you have extra money, this could be a nice way to indulge. However, a word of warning. If you're arriving at Odawara train station, there's no way to get to the hotel except by the hotel shuttle. Taxis won't take you. And the hotel shuttle won't take you unless you've placed your name on the reservation list ahead of time. Nobody warned me about this. I'd read online that a connecting train takes you near the hotel, but this isn't true either. I arrived during a snow/ice storm and waited over 3 hours before I could get a ride to the hotel. The shuttle driver wouldn't let me on. I called the hotel front desk 3 or 4 times, but they weren't very helpful. I suppose this is the language barrier. They meant well. But regardless, if a shuttle reservation is the only way to access a remote mountain top hotel, it's pretty important to make sure your guests understand this. Once I did arrive, I have to admit the room was beautiful. The buffet dinner was fantastic but not included in the price of the room - a little disappointing, since the room is already so expensive. Lots of extra costs, so be careful. I received a really great massage in my room. The onsen hot spring was very nice, and free (included in room charge). Breakfast the next morning was also included in room charge. The hotel bar was closed, though. There wasn't much opportunity to socialize or meet people. I did check out the lake the next morning, which was beautiful in the snowfall. I'm sharing photos of that. There wasn't time to check out much else because I had to get back on the shuttle bus at 10:30 to catch my next train. I suppose if there hadn't been an ice storm, I would have checked out more of the surrounding area and appreciated it.

FFionaIt was snowing when we were there. The condominium block was not as ideal as we had to head over to the main building for the restaurant, onsen, snack bars. The snow made the walk slippery and it was very cold. Other than that little inconvenience, everything else was delightful. Parking is sheltered, room was big and comfortable, free drinks and snacks, good dinner and breakfast, kid-friendly, relaxing onsen.

Great
CcghucgkeThe hotel is just around the corner from the mountain train station. The environment is very good and the facilities are complete. Toiletries and lotions are provided. You can check in directly with just a change of clothes. I left my luggage at the Tokyo Hotel. The Kaiseki dinner was of good quality. If you are not used to Kaiseki, you can get off at the previous stop, Mori no Bijutsu. There is Lawson opposite. Buy some snacks, instant noodles and cook in the microwave!

AAliciaVery nice (and spacious - by tokyo standards) hotel!! We had a balcony view of the mountain and the golf course. I didn't read the description and was pleasantly surprised that there was an onsen (must pay 150 yen usage fee per person). It was a really nice onsen too. It was raining the day that we got there and it made the outdoor onsen just magical with the rain in the backdrop. However, they do not allow tattooed guests into the onsen so foreigners, please be aware. The room was nice and gave old timey feels. I appreciated the big, long couch too. One drawback was that there was no microwave in the whole building :( But overall, would come back. It's a 10 minute walk from the T Tozan bus (so you can get there pretty quickly from the Togendai bus/ropeway station. The Lawson is right there next to the bus stop too (we got to go while the Evangelion collab was going on). The hotel has a free shuttle bus to various locations too so I would inquire about those upon check-in since those have to be booked the day before, but if you have the Hakone free pass and don't mind walking, it's pretty accessible via the Tozan bus lines

KKSAwesome Ryokan with pristine service. Hot spring was great too, albeit one was abit too hot. Rebecca was an awesome attendant where she made sure we enjoyed our meals and stay. The only letdown would be the location as there is a slope to get up to the Ryokan which is quite dangerous. One note is that it is hard to get taxi to yama no Chaya where they may reject to drive passenger there. The view is also a bit disappointing. But all in all, an awesome stay!

GGuest UserWe got to the hotel in the beautiful location just before 3pm and we got given a little tour of the place and then got shown to our room. The staff are very friendly and do their best to speak English. A lovely lady was in charge of our hospitality throughout our stay and she first showed us that there is a public hot spring and a private hot spring and asked us if we would like to book a time to use the private hot spring, we booked a time as we checked in but then we didn’t use it as we were happy with our private hot spring in the room. We also booked a time for dinner and they arrived at that time Promptly with A LOT of food. We also got a choice for a staple food and we chose some steak which was high quality and delicious, as well as the lobster (on the menu it said grilled prawn but a lobster is what came and it was delicious). We ordered a few beers and a bottle of wine with room service and it always came quickly and was nice and cold. The private hot spring is absolutely boiling but it’s a good experience and there’s ice water provided which helps. Breakfast came at 8.30am and it was also huge! It didn’t come with coffee but I ordered some and that was easy enough. The lady who served our food explained every dish and how to eat it and she was always extremely friendly and attentive. Would recommend!

AAnonymous UserThe hotel is very beautiful, the service is very warm, and there is a dedicated person to introduce the various facilities of the hotel. The breakfast and dinner were very sumptuous. There was a private bath in the room. I went around the public bath, but there was almost no one there. In the morning, ask the hotel to send your luggage directly to the station, so you can travel empty-handed~
