The hotel itself is located in the Chungking mansion, a notoriously sketchy building in Hong Kong. Locals have vehemently told me to avoid this place, as it's known to be the most ghetto building in all of the city. I visited it personally and spoke with some people within the building whom told me that the building has an undeserved reputation and is much safer than people think -- however my personal read on the place is that it is indeed very sketchy. The building feels like an endless jungle of dingy halls and dirty stalls, with many seedy businessmen who curiously trail you with their eyes as you walk through. Most likely, you'll get lost looking for the hotel in the building. Kudos to owner of the hotel, who helped us cancel our reservation with no problem, and was very nice over the phone (no refunds accepted!)

Despite Chungking Mansions’ infamous reputation, Hollywood Guesthouse was a clean, safe, and comfortable haven. The room was compact (as expected in Hong Kong) but well-maintained, with air conditioning, free Wi-Fi, and a comfortable bed—everything I needed after a long day of exploring. The owner was friendly and helpful, offering tips on navigating the area. The food scene was incredible—right in the building, I tried delicious Indian, Nepali, and Pakistani cuisine. Nearby, local Cantonese eats and the Temple Street Night Market were must-visits! The area is vibrant and multicultural, with easy access to Tsim Sha Tsui’s sights, shopping, and nightlife. Despite Chungking Mansions’ busy vibe, I felt safe and welcome. ★★★★★ 5/5 – A fantastic budget stay in HK!
