"The hotel is looking and feeling very tired and dated and in serious need of upgrading. They’re charging 2025 prices for 1980 standard services. They clearly cater for bus tours and large parties which are not there to appreciate where they are and their surroundings. There was serious problem with running hot water in the room as well as in the showers in the spa. I overheard many guests complaining about no hot water in their rooms at reception.
Breakfast was very disappointing, they offer a continental selection of one type of cold meat and one type of sliced cheese with pan loaf bread! Fort William boasts artisan bakery’s so no excuse there. During breakfast very loud 80s movie themed music is blaring, the dining room is so big there’s practically a speaker above every second table. When asked to turn it down we were met with a standard reply, “I was just asked to turn it up”. Totally unbelievable. Due to the large parties tables are not cleared fast enough nor cleaned, we had to clean and set our own table before we could eat and this is where we were directed to sit. Waiting staff are clearly not trained nor directed appropriately for a hotel boasting a high standard. We were not encouraged to dine in the hotel at all.
The exterior of the building is not only showing signs of disrepair but is also very dirty. They are missing the B in the main signage and is the first thing you see on arrival.
Positives: the room was clean although all views from most rooms do not look out onto anything nice. Temperature of the pool, steam room and jacuzzi excellent. The lounge bar appeared to have the best atmosphere and felt like a highland hotel.
Would I recommend this hotel? Definitely not!
Would I stay there again? Definitely not!"
"The hotel is in a very good location, very close to the supermarket and McDonald's. The breakfast is not worth it, not tasty, and quite expensive. You can go directly to McDonald's for breakfast. The supermarket has everything, you can buy it directly and eat it in the hotel. The hotel facilities are a bit old."
"When I got to the hotel, I was asked to pay a little bit more than what was advised by trip.com, but every penny was worth it!
Location is great, staff are very friendly and welcoming, the room was absolutely fantastic, and the full Scottish breakfast was generous and tasty. The only disappointment was I couldn't get a bath because the bathtub obturating plug didn't work properly. However, the overall experience was good. Thank you!"
"Life B&B, not to be missed!
After a terrible homestay experience during a three-day trip to Scotland, I had to urgently find alternative options, and finally chose the nearest and rated 4.5 and above Maclean Guest Room. The moment I opened the door, I felt like I had a lucky hit!
The sanitation of the room is perfect, definitely a five-star standard, clean and tidy to touching; the location is also very convenient, travel is particularly worry-free; the landlord's service is more intimate, warm and thoughtful. What touched me most was that I told the landlord about the previous encounter and they not only expressed sympathy but also offered me a lot of extra help. The whole experience made me feel like I was saved!
If you come to Scotland to travel, Maclean Guest Room is definitely worth living, this is the real ”5+ level”!"
"This is the most expensive one I have ever lived in the UK but the smallest one. The price is too low and the check-in procedures are the most cumbersome. But the hotel is very beautiful, the location is good, the aunt who serves is very warm, the breakfast room is amazing, and the breakfast quality is very good."
"The hotel is in a good location, located in the city center, just across the road from the ruins of Fort William, with a supermarket next to it and close to the commercial street, making shopping and dining very convenient. The surrounding attractions are not far away and it is convenient for sightseeing."
"The hotel is in a good location, with a lake on one side and a commercial street on the other. Parking is convenient. If the hotel parking lot is full, you can park the public parking lot 50 meters away and stay free before 8:00. The house is older, the room is small, and the facilities are old. The staff is very welcoming and the attitude is very good."
