Understanding the Great Wall of China

The Great Wall of China was not only built to stop invaders. It also worked like a border control area in ancient times. Soldiers used it to watch who was entering or leaving the country. Traders passed through the gates when bringing goods from different regions, and the wall also helped guide travel routes across northern China. In a way, it worked like a mix of a border checkpoint, trade route, and road system during that time.

 Great Wall of China Map

The Great Wall of China stretches across northern China for thousands of kilometers. It runs from east to west through many provinces and looks almost like a long dragon across the mountains. The eastern end begins near Hushan in Liaoning Province, while the western end reaches Jiayuguan in Gansu Province. Because the wall is so long, most travelers usually visit the sections located near Beijing. Popular areas include Badaling, Mutianyu, Juyongguan, and Simatai.

Each area offers a slightly different experience. Badaling is the most famous and has convenient facilities. Mutianyu is known for its beautiful scenery and fewer crowds. Jinshanling is great for people who enjoy hiking and taking photos. Simatai is unique because you can see the wall near a lake and it is one of the few sections that also offers night visits.

The hotel has a nice and friendly old Charme. It was built in 2008. So it's a new hotel built with old style. The rooms have been clean. The service was friendly. The area is great, close to the main shopping street and tourist attractions. Anyhow the interior has reached some age. Carpets show colorized spots, the swimming pool missing tils. And during a heavy July rain parts of the front roof parted.

Five-star review! I stayed at the Sofitel Beijing Central for four consecutive days, and my overall experience was extremely satisfying. The location is excellent, close to Jianguomen subway station, making it very convenient to get to Wangfujing, Tiananmen Square, and the National Museum. The room was clean and tidy, the bedding was comfortable, and the soundproofing was good, so I rested very well. The front desk staff were warm and polite, and their service was prompt and responsive; communication was smooth whenever I had a request. The hotel environment is quiet and elegant, and the facilities are well-maintained. Traveling with children, staying here made getting around and sightseeing worry-free and convenient. It's a great choice for exploring urban Beijing, especially since the young lady at the Chance hotel front desk upgraded our room for free and gave us a breakfast voucher for one adult and two children for one day, considering our late arrival. I would definitely consider staying here again on my next visit to Beijing – it truly exceeded my expectations!

I've stayed at the Aviator Hotel Beijing for multiple business trips to Sanyuanqiao, and it's always my go-to choice. What impresses me most are the exceptionally well-maintained facilities and the excellent front desk service, especially from Heyao and Linyan. It's an older five-star hotel, but they do an outstanding job with upkeep. The rooms are very spacious, the water pressure is stable, and you get hot water instantly without having to let it run. There are plenty of power outlets and USB ports conveniently located by the bed and desk. The curtains offer great light blocking. The mattress and bedding are high quality, and they offer two types of down pillows (soft and firm). The central air conditioning maintains a very precise temperature, so it's never too hot or too cold. Plus, there's ample parking. The overall facilities are mature and reliable, built with solid materials. Both the in-room amenities and the public recreational facilities far exceed those of other hotels in the same price range and location. I can't find a single fault with the hardware; it's truly the top choice for business travelers.

I had an exceptional stay at this hotel in Beijing. From the moment I arrived, the staff provided warm, professional, and attentive service that made me feel truly welcome. The room was spacious, spotless, and beautifully designed, with comfortable bedding and stunning views of the city. The hotel’s facilities were outstanding, especially the breakfast selection, which offered a wide variety of delicious local and international dishes. The location was also perfect, making it easy to explore Beijing’s major attractions while still enjoying a peaceful and luxurious environment. What impressed me the most was the attention to detail and the genuine hospitality shown by every member of the team. They went above and beyond to ensure my stay was comfortable and memorable. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Beijing for business or leisure. It truly delivers a five-star experience in every aspect, and I look forward to staying here again in the future.

They even thoughtfully capped our unfinished beer from the night before. Service: Very good. The front desk staff and every other employee greeted us warmly. Cleanliness: The room was very clean. Amenities: They have an air purifier and a bathtub where you can enjoy a bath with a city view. At night, you can also watch movies as there are many free films available on the TV. Service: I booked a week in advance and requested a high-floor room with the front desk. When I checked in early, there wasn't an available room yet, so I left my luggage there. When I checked in later that afternoon, the front desk provided service with a smile throughout. We were three people, and I had booked two breakfasts, but the front desk kindly gave us an extra one. Surroundings: It's about a seven-minute walk from Sanyuanqiao Metro Station, so transportation is convenient. Due to a tight schedule, I didn't have time to take photos.

The hotel's location is its biggest advantage, situated right in the heart of the Guomao CBD, making it incredibly convenient for business travelers. However, I'm not sure what event Mercedes-Benz was hosting, but the lobby area on the first floor was swarming with their staff, making it impossible to find a seat on the sofas. It was very crowded and made waiting for a taxi a terrible experience. The guest rooms are spacious, clean, and tidy, with soft bedding and good soundproofing. The hotel also boasts a well-equipped gym, a heated swimming pool, and even a kids' play area, offering a wide range of recreational facilities. In summary, if you're traveling for business and prioritize location, this hotel is a good choice. However, there's still significant room for improvement in terms of hardware and service.

The room is a compact, drive-in style with a well-thought-out layout. The dry area of the bathroom is a bit cramped, barely okay for a single person. The lounge chair is a bit awkward as you can only sit upright in it. The desk, however, is large enough, making it suitable for business trips. The location is excellent, with views of CCTV and close proximity to China World Mall, which is great for shopping and dining. Line 1 isn't too far either, making it convenient for exploring Chang'an Avenue. The breakfast offers a decent variety, though nothing particularly memorable. The juicer is a nice touch, allowing you to choose fruits for your own custom juice blend.

The location is very convenient, just a few minutes' walk from Wangfujing. There are many snack shops, restaurants and a few hair salons next to and in front of the hotel. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful, assisting us with hailing a taxi and showing us how to get to the various attractions. The hotel even provided a small map to guide us on foot to and from the Palace Museum. Very special is this hotel very family friendly, the have connecting room for the family to stay in, for us, we can take care of our girls without open the door and go to another room. The daily housekeeping was very thorough. The female housekeeper responsible for our rooms 715 and 716 was particularly friendly, attentive, and responsible. My daughter accidentally spilled soy milk on the carpet and bed; I informed her, and she promised to handle it. When we returned to the room that evening, the carpet and bed were spotless, without any smell or stains. We were very satisfied with the hotel's service. Staying at the Orange Crystal Hotel in Wangfujing for my Beijing Forbidden City photoshoot was the perfect choice! The location is unbeatable, right on Wangfujing Street, with direct walking access to Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City. It's also super close to the Wangfu Century Ancient Style Makeup Studio, so after getting my Qing or Ming dynasty look done, I could head straight into the park for photos – everything flowed incredibly smoothly. The hotel was exceptionally generous with complimentary bottled water; I've stayed in countless hotels and never seen so much provided, so I didn't need to bring any of my own. The lobby amenities were thoughtful and complete, with a 24-hour self-service coffee machine and even building blocks for kids. It really maximized comfort for traveling with elderly family members and children. This is definitely my top choice for travel and photography trips!

The hotel's location is fantastic, right in the New World Department Store building, with Chongmun Station on Subway Line 5 just downstairs. There are numerous large shopping malls nearby, lots of great restaurants, and it's convenient to get anywhere. The room's cleanliness was also very good. I particularly liked their hairdryer; it's very powerful, which is great for people with long hair. The only thing I was unhappy with was their internet 🛜 – it's really bad and often disconnects, especially in the bathroom. As soon as you enter, the Wi-Fi drops. This was my first time staying at the Park Plaza. We came because my child had an exam at the Academy of Arts and Design's attached high school. When we arrived, I didn't even realize there was a hotel next door. What drew us in was the parking lot we spotted as we drove by, and it was indeed very close to the school. The security guard at the entrance confirmed there was plenty of parking, and we were impressed to find both above-ground and underground spaces. So, we decided to book a room. The price was reasonable, not expensive at all, and the hotel had everything: a restaurant, breakfast, and a gym. Stepping into the lobby, it was bright, and a pleasant aroma filled the air, immediately giving us a holiday vibe and easing our nerves. The young lady at the front desk was incredibly warm and thorough during check-in. She double-checked our late checkout request multiple times to ensure it was fine. Knowing we were there for our child's exam, she even extended our checkout to 3 PM, which was a very rare and thoughtful gesture. Despite many students and parents checking in, it never felt crowded. The elevators were fast, room service was prompt, and the little robot delivering items was adorable and busy. The room itself was spacious and clean. The first night, the hot water in the bathroom wasn't very hot, possibly due to a high number of guests, but the bathtub was very comfortable, and the bedding was cozy. There was a slight creak when turning over, but it was acceptable. Staff were quick to respond to any extra requests. Parking was free after registering at the front desk. Overall, the value for money is good. I recommend it to anyone who needs a place to stay.

This is our third time staying at Marriott Beijing Changping, and this time we opted for the 'Flying House' themed family room. The room features a bunk bed with a slide, which completely captivated our child, keeping them entertained for a long time. The room is well-equipped with children's amenities, including a baby toilet seat, a step stool, toiletries, and bathrobes. The only downsides are some safety concerns: the stone edges of the indoor hot tub are very sharp and lack corner protectors, and the upper bunk's guardrail is quite low, requiring parents to closely supervise their children. The hot spring area offers a wide variety of indoor and outdoor pools, all clean, with different depths, slides, and ball pits. The water temperature is perfect for kids, satisfying their desire to play in the water. The indoor kids' play area feels a bit old, with many damaged soft mats on the floor. There were no staff members supervising or assisting during playtime, so parents with young children should definitely accompany and watch them closely. The hotel is conveniently located next to Wanda Plaza, which has plenty of dining options and children's entertainment.

Badaling Great Wall/Badaling Wildlife Park Beijing|56.95km from city center
Finally checked into the Commune by the Great Wall, a Hyatt Centric property – specifically, the Bamboo House. This stay completely exceeded my expectations, so I'm sharing an honest review for anyone considering a visit. The exterior features tightly packed natural bamboo poles, complemented by a black sloping roof. Walking along the forest path, you can see the building softly blending into the mountains and woods from a distance, without appearing out of place at all. The most stunning feature is the independent outdoor bamboo tea room. Bamboo columns enclose a semi-transparent space with white sand covering the ground. Through the bamboo gaps, you can gaze at the mountains and forest. Sitting quietly and enjoying tea here creates an incredibly atmospheric experience, perfect for photos. The public areas boast large floor-to-ceiling windows that frame the green trees outside like natural landscape paintings. During the day, light and shadows filter into the rooms through the bamboo poles, creating ever-changing scenery. Practical Tips for Your Stay: 1. The room offers excellent privacy. It's a standalone building surrounded by dense trees, away from the hustle and bustle of public areas. It's ideal for those seeking quiet relaxation, couples on a getaway, or small gatherings of friends. 2. The building materials are natural bamboo, so there's a natural bamboo and wood scent. If you're sensitive to slight color variations or textures in natural materials, please be aware of this beforehand. The gaps in the bamboo create a soft, translucent feel; if you require ultimate privacy, simply pull down the indoor blackout blinds. 3. The hotel is located in a valley, so the temperature difference between morning/evening and daytime is greater than in the city. Remember to bring a light jacket if you plan to sit in the outdoor tea room in the evening. 4. The resort grounds are very large. I recommend driving in, as walking to and from the restaurant can be quite far. For dining, you can choose the hotel's restaurant or bring your own snacks and enjoy them in the outdoor tea room. Areas for Improvement: When I checked in, the room had just been cleaned, and there was still water on the floor, suggesting a rushed and less-than-thorough cleaning. The 'Old Beijing style' afternoon tea, which looked great for photos in the lobby, consisted of pre-bought items of generally mediocre quality.

I started staying at the Four Seasons about seven or eight years ago, purely by chance. Since then, whenever I go to Beijing, unless I'm specifically looking to try a different hotel, I usually choose the Four Seasons. The lotus flowers along the Liangma River are in bloom and look beautiful. I appreciate the upgrade; the room was so comfortable that even if I paid a bit more, it still felt like a great deal. The lady at the front desk provided excellent service; she had a beautiful smile. The room was also very spacious, nothing to complain about there. The transportation is incredibly convenient, only a ten-minute walk from Tiananmen, which is fantastic! The only drawback was the pool. It's very small, and apparently, they rent it out? When we went, my child saw several swimming floats lying idle and picked one up. Immediately, a fierce-looking middle-aged woman in a yellow life vest came out and took it away. My child politely asked the 'auntie' if he could play with one of the idle ones, and the 'fierce woman' flat-out refused. I was speechless! For a hotel that costs over a thousand a night, can't they even provide a couple of swimming aids?

Pros: 1. The hotel is nestled halfway up the mountain, offering fresh air and truly beautiful surroundings. It's a peaceful escape from the city's hustle and bustle, and the hotel's decor and maintenance are quite good. Our butler, Bella, was incredibly meticulous and thoughtful, taking care of every little detail. She met all our needs, making our stay exceptionally comfortable. 2. There's a wide array of facilities and activities, including a mountainside hot spring, indoor pool, Hatha yoga, singing bowl therapy, a gym, and a kids' club. It's perfect for families, and the kids' club is large and newly renovated – it just reopened in May. It's definitely more fun than the kids' clubs at other hotels I've visited. Plus, children aged 4 and up can be supervised for free, which made my little one super happy! 3. The room key card came with a park map, showing hiking trails. There's an easy 5-kilometer mountain boardwalk, perfect for families, where you can visit the Eight Planets viewing platforms. 4. The breakfast was impressive! They had steaks, lamb chops, and a rich variety of both Chinese and Western dishes. However, the cured meats were generally a bit too salty. Cons: 1. For a 5-star hotel, there was no safe in the room. 2. While there's an abundance of kids' activities, most of them come with a fee. 3. Since the kids' club was newly renovated, the smell was quite strong, making my eyes and throat uncomfortable. Overall, we were still very satisfied. I imagine it would be even more atmospheric to visit in winter for the hot springs, though I expect it would be extremely crowded.

The Xishan Hot Spring Hotel, touted as a 'land cruise,' certainly lives up to its name. We booked a family-themed package that included daily hot spring passes for 2 adults and 1 child, breakfast, one full buffet meal, and late-night snacks. The hot springs are very distinctive, especially the fish therapy and ******* medicine pools. They even provide face masks and hot compresses. The food selection is incredibly rich, with a seafood theme, and the cold drinks feature Häagen-Dazs. The second and fifth floors offer numerous family-friendly activities like go-karts, bowling, billiards, hopscotch, and a petting zoo – you'd need more than a day to try everything. The hot springs also offer overnight packages, with a variety of spacious and uniquely designed pods on the second floor and B1, offering excellent value for money. The biggest surprise this time was the 'pet companionship' service in the room. We were lucky enough to meet the adorable Ragdoll cat, Qiuqiu, who spent an unforgettable hour with our children. It was freezing outside in winter, but super warm inside – I felt like I could wear a T-shirt, the air conditioning was excellent. The service was generally great. My child threw a beanbag up onto the ceiling, which was about three or four meters high, and the hotel staff even managed to get it down for us. I'm very grateful for that. I deducted 0.5 points for service because the front desk staff seemed clueless; when I asked where to feed the alpacas, they said they didn't know and that it was handled by the hot springs area, implying it wasn't under their management. They mentioned the hot springs and entertainment were outsourced. However, we found the alpacas just a short distance outside the hotel lobby entrance, along with geese, ducks, and chickens. There were three large and two small alpacas, and they were adorable. Do bring them some carrots and greens; they looked quite hungry. For breakfast, go early, before 8 AM, as it's very abundant. If you go later, you'll miss out on the delicious cream cakes. Dinner was a buffet due to New Year's, and the seafood was quite fresh for the hotpot. The hot springs were a bit crowded, but the kids had a good time, mostly hitting each other with ocean balls. There weren't many indoor hot spring pools, making it a bit cramped. The temperatures were all high, but it was very clean. They said there were outdoor pools too, but we didn't go as it was too cold.

The rooms are clean and tidy, and come with a balcony. When checking in, you need to register your vehicle to park in the underground parking lot 🅿️, otherwise, you might be charged a parking fee. We had three king-size rooms, and 1119 had the best view, overlooking the lake from the balcony, with a beautiful sunrise in the morning. The room directly opposite could see the golf course behind, which was great for sunset views. The bathroom and bathtub are in separate spaces opposite each other, designed with two sinks for simultaneous use. The front desk is on the second floor, and the connecting corridor to the hot spring ♨️ is also on the same floor, though it's a bit of a walk. The buffet restaurant is on the first floor. Complimentary fruit was provided in the room.

Even though the hotel is a bit old, it's very well-maintained. We arrived on a rainy day and stayed in (thanks to Kong Kong for the warm hospitality and upgrade!), enjoying the breeze on the balcony. But I didn't expect the next day, with the sun out, to be even more comfortable. I wish I had booked an extra night (thanks again to the professional Kong Kong) 😄😄. See the pictures for details. P.S. Although I haven't actively pursued Globalist status, the Hyatt brand consistently impresses me, whether in Hong Kong, Sanya, or Beijing. I'll definitely be back.

The hotel is located some 100m away from the Samatai Great Wall ticket entrance {RMB120] though the climb is rather challenging due to the uneven steps leading to the great wall [especially for night climbs can be challenging for older folks]. The hotel is clean but with very low occupancy [likely due to the price tag] next to the sauna house which I did not use. Gubei Water Town was pretty decent for this is a replica town build for tourist in 2013 if not mistaken. Night scene was great with laser and drone show illuminating the sky. Ample restaurant around but with very few patronages for most. Overall a pretty nice/decent place to visit if you have an extra day in Beijing to kill.

Every time I visit Wuzhen, I stay at Yushe. I'm quite familiar with it, which makes things easier. The room facilities and hygiene are generally good. The food and service haven't changed much over time; they're consistently decent. Regarding the wooden stool in the private hot spring tub, I'd suggest that housekeeping remove it during cleaning to drain and dry it. Every time I stay, I have to take it out and rinse it myself to wash off the black fibrous material that accumulates on the legs. This time, I felt that some of the staff in the restaurant, at the front desk, and in housekeeping might be new (both male and female). Their communication was a bit stiff – like they were unfamiliar with the situation, easily startled, and nervous. While understandable, it was noticeable to have several such instances. Wuzhen is beautiful in all seasons. Coming during off-peak times for a relaxing stay is very stress-relieving.

Basically I come here once a year, and there is no change. There is no plug at the bedside, so it is inconvenient to charge. I always bring my own power strip. Convenient parking, convenient Internet access, good hot springs, good restaurants, not expensive, and good taste. The surrounding area is relatively deserted, suitable for self-driving. 443 The shower head should be replaced, the water is messy, and the TV has no signal.

I stayed at the Kempinski for a local getaway, and overall it was a great experience. On the day I checked in, the male manager at the front desk even upgraded my room! The in-room facilities are quite new, apparently recently renovated. For its location in Beijing, it offers excellent value for money. The bed was also a super king-size, 2 meters wide, and very comfortable to sleep on. The next day, I came back late after running errands, and the hotel was kind enough to extend my check-out time. The hotel also has a brewery and a very famous bakery. If you pay a deposit upon check-in, you can enjoy discounts there. I ate a lot of bread and cakes over these two days, and it was also very pleasant to have a drink at the brewery in the evening! The overall experience was fantastic. I'll definitely stay here again next time!

I frequently stay at this hotel, but this time was a huge disappointment. The front desk staff who checked me in made the whole experience very unpleasant. First, parking costs money, up to 80 yuan. Second, they still require a deposit – seriously, who still does that these days? Third, you have to go down to pick up your own food deliveries. Fourth, there wasn't enough hot water. And finally, the soundproofing is terrible; you can clearly hear conversations from the next room.

I had the chance to experience this 'classic' renowned hotel, and I found it quite good. Although it's a bit old and some of the facilities are dated, especially in the apartment rooms, the cleanliness is commendable and the service is excellent. The apartment rooms, despite their traditional decor and older equipment, are spacious and well-suited for families. The standard rooms have been renovated with a more modern style and contemporary amenities. While smaller, they are very comfortable to stay in. I specifically requested a high floor for a better view! I also sampled the food at 'Changan One' and 'Tea Source,' ordered a birthday cake from 'Su Yuan,' and tried the breakfast buffet. All were very satisfying. The Kung Pao Chicken at Changan One was particularly unique, and the fried chicken wings at Tea Source were similar to spicy fried chicken. The breakfast offered a rich variety, and the freshly prepared dishes were great. I was especially pleased with the gym and particularly the swimming pool. I went for a swim in the morning when it was less crowded. The pool is very large, making for a pleasant swim, and there's also a massage pool, dry sauna, and wet sauna, perfect for relaxation. I'd definitely bring my family back for a weekend getaway if I get the chance.

Title: Great Location, But Triple Occupancy Details Missed the Mark Body: We brought our child to Beijing for the summer holiday in early July and booked the Jinglun Hotel. What attracted us was its excellent location – close to Guomao (CBD) and the subway station, making it convenient to get anywhere. After staying there, the location indeed lived up to expectations, and the room was more spacious than we imagined. However, one small detail was a bit uncomfortable: We checked in as three people, but upon entering the room, we found only two sets of toothbrushes. We had to call the front desk to get the third set. Summer holidays are peak season for family travel, so triple rooms or family rooms should, by default, be equipped with three sets of toiletries. Having guests ask for them feels a bit reactive. Other aspects were fine. The bedding was clean, and the air conditioning cooled down quickly, which was important since Beijing was already quite hot in early July. The front desk staff was pleasant during check-out, but I hope these small details can be paid attention to in the future. Overall, it was decent, but points were deducted due to these oversights.

It's right next to Dengshikou subway station, and just 1-2 kilometers from the Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square, and Wangfujing Pedestrian Street. The breakfast spread was quite good, and they even offer a packed breakfast service if you have an early start. I want to thank Reese at the front desk of Fairmont Beijing for her thoughtful service during my stay. She was very efficient and friendly when I checked in, and even asked about my travel plans. When she found out I wasn't familiar with the area, she patiently recommended a few great restaurants that were perfect in terms of taste and location, saving me the trouble of aimlessly searching myself. I'm not very familiar with ride-hailing apps, so she even proactively helped me call a taxi and carefully confirmed the destination with the driver. These might seem like small details, but it's precisely this kind of attentive care that made my entire stay so much smoother. Overall, Reese's professionalism and enthusiasm left a great impression on me about this hotel, and I'll definitely choose to stay here again the next time I'm in Beijing.

Halfway through my trip, I rarely write reviews, but the Rosewood Beijing truly exceeded my expectations. Initially, I had only planned to stay for one night, but I ended up extending it to three nights! Here’s why: 1. The service was incredibly attentive. From check-in to room amenities and the hotel's comprehensive facilities, including the tranquil executive lounge, it’s an ideal choice for a summer family trip. Despite a few minor hiccups, Pauling's thoughtful arrangements truly highlighted the Rosewood's brand charm. My top choices for Beijing used to be the Mandarin Oriental, The Peninsula, or the Four Seasons, but now I’m definitely a Rosewood convert. 2. I particularly loved the 6th-floor wellness area. The pool and gym are separated, and the interplay of sunlight and water reflections is both beautiful and relaxing. The gym is spacious with diverse equipment. One afternoon, I even coincidentally saw a top-tier Chinese celebrity discreetly working out there. 3. The aesthetic design is excellent. Although the hotel has been open for a while, the attention to detail in its maintenance is evident. Having stayed in many luxury hotels in Beijing, the Rosewood consistently earns my trust across all aspects. Special thanks again to Pauling, Jessi from the executive lounge, and Betty from the lobby. I look forward to my next stay!

Almost perfect, except for the price! (。- .•) Service: The staff were incredibly welcoming and enthusiastic. Everyone who passed by greeted us and offered directions. Environment: The hotel is very new and spacious, conveniently located about a 10-minute walk from the theme park. Being able to enter early was a huge plus – it was great to see others still queuing in the sun at the main entrance. The breakfast was absolutely fantastic! If I hadn't been going to the park, I honestly think I could have stayed from 6:30 AM to 10 AM, just enjoying all the delicious food. The desserts were especially incredible – a real feast! ⌯ᵔᗜᵔ⌯ Facilities: If I had to pick a flaw, the only thing that could be improved was the hairdryer in the room. Service: Housekeeping and breakfast service were excellent, definitely up to star-hotel standards. However, I found it strange that they served hot water in the restaurant during dinner on a very hot day; shouldn't it be iced water? Environment: It's too old, honestly nothing much to mention. Facilities: The facilities are too old. Even on the lowest setting, the air conditioning was very noisy at night. The hardware is outdated, no smart toilets, and even the toilet seats lack soft-close mechanisms. Shouldn't star hotels use a percentage of their profits for regular renovations? I don't understand, it's a 'Chinese characteristic' I guess. The room I got was next to another connecting room, luckily it seemed unoccupied, otherwise, I imagine the soundproofing would be poor. Hygiene: Despite its age, the bathroom was relatively clean.

The hotel is good overall—it’s quiet, comfortable, and the staff provide a standard level of service. There’s nothing particularly special about it, but it’s a decent place to stay. The biggest disappointment was the customer service. They don’t seem to care whether guests are satisfied or not. My only major issue was the air conditioning. I spent two nights sleeping without a working AC because it wasn’t functioning properly. I had to go down to the reception several times before they finally moved me to a room on another floor. What disappointed me the most was that no one even apologized or acknowledged the inconvenience. They acted as if nothing had happened.
