2-Star Hotels in Kumamoto Prefecture, Japan

The hotel is close to the bus terminal and shopping mall. It is 3 minutes away from Kamishatori Shopping Street. It is very convenient to buy food. There is a tram stop next to the shopping street. It only takes 15 minutes to get to Kumamoto JR Station.

I like the peaceful environment there. The rooms are very clean & tidy. The staff are very helpful.

Aso Base is more than the usual backpackers hostel. I think it's like a boutique guesthouse. We spent an enjoyable 4 nights there. The owners are friendly and helpful. The facilities are spotless. The communal area downstairs has a well equipped kitchen and comfortable area for meals, reading etc. On the cold days we were there a log fire was made to warm us up! The bedrooms are comfortable and the communal showers/toilets are kept very clean. Adequate so never any waiting for a place. We also appreciated the discount tickets to the nearby Onsen. This is a great place at good value to stay in Aso.

A very satisfying stay! The design of the cabin is stunning. The two-story independent cabin allows children to climb up and down as much as they like. The owner of the B&B is very enthusiastic. Even if he doesn't understand the language, he tries his best to use translation software to introduce Kurokawa Onsen's attractions and B&B facilities. It really makes people feel like returning to their hometown. Kurokawa is very quiet at night, and you can really enjoy the tranquility and leisure of the deep mountain hot springs. The cabin is fully equipped and can be used for simple cooking. I cooked Japanese sukiyaki pot with the children in the cabin, which was very satisfying! The outdoor hot spring in the B&B is another amazing place. Because it was summer, we didn’t make a reservation for the hot spring. The owner of the B&B enthusiastically invited us to enjoy it (unexpectedly). Unexpectedly, it turned out to be an independent open-air hot spring. I highly recommend making a reservation. It’s too Feel comfortable! The next day, the children were very reluctant to say goodbye to the owner of the B&B and the owner's dog. Along the way, they still missed the comfortable bed (actually just a tatami sleeping mat) in the B&B. I will definitely visit again next time I have the opportunity! Very nice host and experienced guide of the Aso area. Welcomed us with snacks and recommendations for meals, even roasted sweet potatoes for us because we did not plan to use the outdoor barbecue. You get free coffee or tea every day. Would definitely stay again if visiting Aso. The room is nice and big.

You can also warm and drink tea in front of the charcoal stove at night. It is very atmospheric in winter. Not far from Kurokawa Hot Springs, we also drove out to see the beautiful lights. The hotel room has a great view, which makes me feel really relaxed. The hot spring is open until 11:00 p.m., which is perfect for unwinding. The only downside is that there’s no bathroom in the room, so you’ll have to use the public bath. If you can’t make it to the hot spring at night, there won’t be any other place to take a dip, so that’s a bit of a bummer. On the bright side, there’s a golf course right next to the hotel with a beautiful environment. Lots of locals and tourists come to play golf there. The room is also really big and comfortable, so you’ll feel like you’re sleeping in the sky.

The host was very welcoming and spoke fluent English. They provided free tickets to a nearby hot spring, which I visited every day—a rare treat. The guesthouse is located away from the city center, making it very quiet. There is a tram nearby, making it convenient to travel to the city. At night, the surroundings are quite empty and the lighting is dim, but it feels very safe.

The facility was old but clean. All the employees were friendly and comfortable. The food was large, especially the sashimi was fresh and delicious. I was detached for the first time in a long time, but I felt lonely with the feeling of being lively and lonely throughout the hot spring town. I want to use it again.
