It is dated and the A1 is noisy but that’s what you’d expect choosing a hotel next to it. Our trip was fine. Shower was powerful. Breakfast was basic and plenty of it.
We stayed for 6 nights over Easter. Arriving wasn't the best. Rooms weren't ready for the 3pm check in time so had to sit in the bar and wait. No offer of a free drink for the inconvenience either. Half hour later our room was ready. Then, even though advertised as having air-conditioning, the rooms dont. The room was hot but reception did provide a fan.
The staff here are really friendly and helpful. Especially Helen on reception who sorted our fan.
The rooms are dated and in desperate need of a refurbishment to get up to proper IHG standard. Paint was cracking on the walls and dints in the wall from where people had hit with suitcases etc. That being said, the beds were very comfy.
Breakfast was the best we've had at any HI Express hotel. Food always topped up, even when it was really busy. Good choice of food and nicely prepared.
Location is really handy for getting the train into London as the station is across the road and Euston is a 25 minute ride away.
When they finally refurbish the hotel it will be a great HI Express.

Didn't realise pool for kids is from 3pm weekdays.
Got charged again after prepaid my room. Other than that it's a comfortable stay with spacious room and bed.
Free parking. Perfect temperature of the whirlpool and swimming pool.
Overall the hotel is fine. Parking is convenient. The only thing I would point out is the shower is not hot in our room and breakfast is simple - which is fine but the spoon, knife etc are not very clean.
We stayed one night after attending the venue for a wedding reception. Our room was perfect; a good size and very clean. The en suite was spot on with soft white bath sheets and the soap was divine! Hairdryer, kettle and even an iron was in the room so couldn’t ask for more.
Breakfast was a buffet and of great quality and plentiful. Everything was cooked to perfection.
The grounds are gorgeous and we even found the fountain featured in one of the Harry Potter movies!!

PPlayful+JoyfulThe hotel staff said that he couldnt find my booking although I provided my booking reference and voucher and request 15 pounds for Early check in and charged my account 51 pounds in total. Although I kept saying I booked via Trip.com and paid while I booked the hotel online. It was a prepaid booking. I am so disappointed that the hotel sent me the invoice & receipt on 14 March but I was told I would get the balance of receipt and I would be charged the early check in fee 15 pounds only, the accommodation fee after I checked out at 12pm on March 15. On March 15, when I was checking out, I checked with another staff who was on duty, he said the hotel didn’t charge my card, but the agency card, it was acceptable. Unfortunately, on my bank statement I found that the hotel charged my card for all. And it was really disappointed because they didnt really dealed with my questions and my situation. I did double pay for the accommodation to Trip. Com and the Primier Inn Richmanworth.
GGuest UserPerfect location for overnight stay before travelling to the airport. Just walk around the corner and you have the Welcome Break for food, drinks etc

GGuest UserThe room was clean and well presented . Check in was made more difficult as the screen did not work for both ourselves and others which meant waiting for a receptionist to man the desk. She was polite and efficient. The breakfast was good. Parking was limited and we paid for parking on a nearby street . This turned out to be cheeped than the multi story car park even when the discount was applied
Overall we were pleased with our two night stay in St Albans. This was the fourth forth hotel we stayed at and was certainly the best of the bunch
GGuest UserThe staff could not be more welcoming. I arrived the night before a work event and despite the bar being busy due to a football match, they helped get me settled into a clean a lovely room, with just enough facilities. The breakfast included in the price the following morning was exceptional and set me up for a great day! I will definitely be back and was even looking for things to do in the area as I'd love to take my wife to this lovely venue.
