Overall I would give a 9.9/10! The hotel is located in a very convenient location and we were lucky enough to see the northern lights from our sea view room during our stay, which was unbelievable! The only point I've taken off was the first room I got assigned to had some empty beer cans on top of the wardrobe, and the door lock and heating weren't working too. Soon after I've spoke to reception they have swapped me to a new room which had a less stunning view but everything else worked well. Breakfast was nice too - appreciate the barista corner which you can enjoy coffee that doesn't come from the machine.
The room wasn't huge, but it was perfectly adequate for our needs. We booked a sea-view room on the highest floor, the 10th. The two large windows offered a truly stunning view, with distant snow-capped mountains and city lights clearly visible.
Downstairs, the lobby provides complimentary tea and coffee. Conveniently, there's also a Best Arctic office right next to the lobby. We booked all three of our day tours there, and the departure point was very close to the hotel. All in all, the location is excellent and incredibly convenient.
Check-in was a bit slow, so be prepared to be patient.
Recommended by a friend, this hotel truly lives up to expectations. It's very close to the airport, and you can even watch planes take off and land from the terrace. The room is simple, practical, and comfortable, and the breakfast is also quite good. The staff are friendly, and they even offer luggage storage. There's a supermarket and a commercial street nearby, though everything is closed on Sundays.
Conveniently located, walking distance to Arctic cathedral. Breakfast is excellent and very good spread . The front desk staff on 4 Oct early afternoon morning is extremely helpful. The Bristol staff whom I have placed order for early breakfast has forgotten to register my order and this front desk gentleman is kindly to help and give me the breakfast in time for my departure.
The room was small, and there were very few power outlets. The USB socket on one side of the bedside was broken, but I was able to borrow a power strip with three outlets from the front desk, and they told me there were more outlets under the bed. Without that power strip, there would only have been two outlets plus one USB port available by the window.
If you leave early, the hotel front desk offers a simple breakfast, which was decent. During normal breakfast hours, gluten-free options are also available.
The shower stall in the bathroom was very small, making it a bit awkward for a woman to shower comfortably. The floor tiles in the shower had a steep slope for drainage, so I had to really grip with my feet to avoid bumping into the right-angled, double-door shower enclosure.
The front desk staff member who checked me in on the first day was quite good; she informed us that the aurora would be very strong that night and the next, advising us to keep an eye on the sky.
The room was given to us on the first floor for convenience of carrying our luggage. The nearby sea view is very beautiful but very clear. The room is also very big, but the hot water is not hot enough and the bath water is lukewarm and cool. So you have to take a bath early, otherwise you have to wash it the next morning. Maybe there are too many residents and everyone shares the hot water, so The hot water is not hot enough. Breakfast is very basic and you can eat a little before heading to the airport. The neighborhood is actually quite nice and leisurely.
This was a great location slightly out of the city to catch the Northern Lights without going on a tour (we saw it two nights out of five! Cabins were well kept and clean, we were two adults and two teens and there was enough space for everyone. It is 10mins walk to the bus stop to the city, of 40mins walk across the bridge to the city, both of which were manageable for us. Note that there aren’t many restaurants nearby. All in I was extremely happy we chose this place for the Tromso leg of our trip.
They will do daily cleaning in the room which is appreciated, but took away our spoons which the staff thought it was the hotel’s. And sometimes after cleaning, they didn’t provide garbage bag for the bin. We are also not notified that 24 December is their ‘holiday’ so the breakfast will start late, several group standing in front of the restaurant waiting it to open while we are actuall rushing to the airport. The staff did allow us in at the end, no chaotic was caused luckily.
An unpretentious but comfortable hotel in an unbeatable location in central Tromso (the third photo is the view from the hotel window). Highlights include the friendly staff (a shout out here to the ever helpful Petter), tasty and healthy breakfast, and comfortable sitting areas that mean you don't have to hang out in your room.
Given the quality of the hotel it is surprising - and highly annoying - that they don't provide kettles in the room (I even offered to pay a deposit), the more frustrating because some photos on the site show coffee machines: so some rooms do have these facilities. The selection of toiletries is also surprisingly meagre - no shower gel for example, which seems unnecessarily cheapskate. My other gripe is that they need more individual tables in the breakfast room: finding a space at a long table feels reminiscent of youth hostelling...
With these shortcomings noted, the hotel can be recommended and is good value for Tromso.
The hotel environment is very good, the most impressive thing is that the breakfast is very rich, far exceeding expectations. The only fly in the ointment is that there is no free parking space, but parking nearby is also very convenient.
