Everything was wonderful! The room had its own private plunge pool, and there were two outdoor hot springs that you could reserve for your group to enjoy without anyone else around. Dinner and breakfast were served in a traditional Japanese style, which felt very authentic. What really sets this ryokan apart is that the main dish for dinner is Hida beef from the region. The service was top-notch; everyone was so welcoming and kind. After checking in, you change into traditional attire, and the hotel provides everything else, right down to facial cream. Thank you for such an amazing experience!

The room is very good, the spa is small, the speciality is family customization, authentic Japanese style, meal food is delivered to the room, privately enjoyed, very close to the station, 10 minutes walk, morning can go to the city next to the city, is the morning market, it is highly recommended

This trip, I stayed at three hotels from the same group consecutively, and it felt just like home. Plus, there's a hot spring within a 5-minute walk. Towels are provided for free, and hotel guests even get a discount, so you can enjoy another soak the next morning – very comfortable! The hotel is incredibly clean with new facilities. Although the location is a bit remote, it's perfect for a road trip, being quite close to Shirakawa-go and Takayama.

This is an unparalleled stay, from the moment of booking to get the meticulous care of Sufang. Before check-in, the detailed explanation of the check-in procedures and the equipment should not be discussed. During the period, there have been messages and reminders to explain the rituals and various experience activities held in the temple, which makes people feel very relieved, and the doubts about strange places are swept away. Since Sufang specially asked about the arrival time before check-in, there was a staff waiting at the gate as soon as I arrived. The staff also took me to Sufang around and introduced all the equipment and rules of use. Very intimate. Sufang is not serious and old-fashioned, but a simple style that makes people feel calm. Since there are only a few rooms, the privacy is very high, basically you can hardly meet other guests. The room space is enough, the only trouble is that the room does not have a bathroom, Meng Xu crawled out of the room in the middle of the night to find the toilet is really a torture. Sufang also has a variety of activities and experiences for guests to participate, there are religious morning classes, copy scriptures, etc. There are also relatively neutral meditation or yoga. The monks who are in the tutoring speak fluent English and communication is not a problem. I am really grateful that I have the opportunity to live in Sufang, and I can relax and go on vacation in a comprehensive way. I also have the opportunity to experience my inner voice and truly know myself. It really seems to be a feeling of rebirth. This is the accommodation experience that you can't find in other hotels, no matter how high a star hotel. The opportunity must not be missed.

It is very hard to find the hotel as no street light at all , hotel should install spot light at its sign. Hard to see in the dark even 7 :30 pm in Fall seasons. Room is good size, only bathroom very small. But overall is cleaned. Smooth check in and out. Only inconvenience is we have to choose specific time to use onsen and breakfast time. Since we check in kinda late, no choice left for us. Ended up we could not use onsen facility. Breakfast was small portion with only 3 pieces of onigiri and small pieces of tamago and salmon. Should include bread of some sort. This hotel is run by Chinese management, not local Japanese.

It would be better if there is a locker facility at the hot spring changing area. & high cost performance~

Our stay at Ryokan Gizan was a truly memorable experience. This is a traditionally built and decorated Japanese ryokan, with tatami floors, sliding doors, and an authentic atmosphere that makes you feel fully immersed in Japanese culture. It’s definitely a “must-visit” if you’re looking to experience traditional Japanese accommodation — even a short stay of 2–3 nights is enough to make it special. The ryokan is quite old, which actually adds to its authentic charm, though it might feel a bit less comfortable for more demanding guests. That said, it’s very well maintained and everything is clean and thoughtfully arranged. The onsen facilities were excellent — one public bath and four private ones that you can use freely. After long days of exploring, it was a real treat. We highly recommend booking with the traditional dinner included. The meals were a highlight: we had Yakiniku the first night and Shabu-shabu the second, both featuring fresh, generous portions of delicious food. Breakfast was a traditional Japanese set — beautifully presented and made with care, though not quite to our personal taste. The location is stunning — surrounded by mountains, rivers, and blossoming trees. It feels peaceful and remote. Just note that amenities like ATMs or grocery stores are limited nearby. However, it’s well connected by bus (just a 3-minute walk from the ryokan), which can take you to Kamikochi or the terminals at Takayama and Hirayu Onsen. Buses run about once an hour, so it’s quite manageable. Overall, a fantastic stay — relaxing, unique, and highly recommended for anyone looking to experience a more traditional and scenic side of Japan.

This was self-check in hotel. The location is excellent but too small for 3 people. The bathroom is good. Room temperature could be adjusted if too cold. There was a heater available as well. Cooking could be done with the stove and more. Only one concern was the locking system. I would recommend having another lock when guests were in the room. The other guest tried to unlock our room. We could not sleep well the 1st night. The response from the owner was quick when I informed on this issue.

Very cozy stay, few private onsens to choose from included in the room price, there was no need to queue as it was empty at most times. The staff were also very friendly. The hotel does not have a restaurant but they gave a few restaurant suggestions at nearby places. Very comfortable stay overall!
