"Genuine Japanese style accommodation in an Onsen. Facilities are limited but one encounters Japan like no other.
Admitting that sleeping on a mattress next to each other is not for everyone and so might be the public shower in the Onsen.
Shuttle bus to the city is needed as its quite far from the city centre. Luggage storage is very limited. Curfew at 11pm without exception."

"Good value hostel in the centre of Takayama, only 5 minutes walking from the train station and Nohi bus stop. Even though there is no staff at the hostel, we met them at the reception at the main hotel nearby and we were explained everything in detail.
The hostel is spotless and has all spaces well organized. The showers at the first floor are completely new and are well equipped with so many toiletries available, even safety boxes and skin creams! The kitchen is well equipped too even though we only used the microwave. Our twin room was comfortable, we had clean sheets and towels, heating and hangers. The only downside I can think of are the thin walls, you can hear other guests downstairs too."

"Excellent hostel. Just 3-4 mins away from the Takayama station. Easy to find. Very helpful staff who explained everything and answered all my queries. Two clean bedsheets n a clean pillow case given when checked in. The staff reminded me to sleep in between the two bedsheets, which was very reassuring. The single 'cabin' is spacious n clean. Didn't feel stuffy or itchy. Best hostel ever stayed."

"The whole facility is very clean. The bedroom is traditional Japanese style tatami and we love the quilt comforter. It's so soft, thick and fluffy! This is the best comforter we have used in Japan so far! Really keeps us warm through the night! There's a small entrance gate and door to our room, which is so unique. The traditional breakfast served was superb too!"

"A very nice place with a warm feeling, beginning with the kind staff. Gerard specially is a wonderful host. The kitchen is great, big and full equipped. I loved the small garden and the dinning or resting place full of board games. There is also a traditional Japanese stove to cook for rent. Location is good. If I need to name one disadvantage I could say that both the beds and floors are noisy while moving. I tried not to but every step or movement in the bed was heard. Of course, it’s an old house and makes sense but still is the only thing I could say, the rest perfect and 100% recommended. Even the other guests were all fun."

"I arrived at the hotel between 12:30 and 13:00, and there was no one at the front desk (not as good as chain or large hotels), so I wrote a note and put it on my luggage and put it at the counter. This hotel should be privately owned, a total of 5 The first floor is the front desk. After counting, there are about twenty guest rooms. Single room, the room is quite large, toothbrush and pajamas are provided, but the bathroom toilet does not have a butt flushing function, the room has a window, and the price is on the high side ~ Compared with the nearby Country Hotel Takayama, the price/performance ratio is not high"
"The location of the hotel is convenient because it is in front of the station.
There is also a hot spring inside the hotel, so it is convenient to use.
Free breakfast is also delicious."

IIzzi telMy partner and I really enjoyed the 2 nights stay here. The hosts were very friendly, even though they cannot speak English very well, they made effort to make the guests feel like home. I did find the water in the private hot springs is too hot to enjoy, but i really like the decoration and the setting of the public bath. Breakfast and dinner were very beautiful and tasty, I particularly like the tofu soup in breakfast.
DDemi.9.2Place is exceptional. Cleanliness, showers, toilets all available and really great quality.
Only down side was the distance if the weather was bad. I can't blame them as weather is uncontrollable, but it's pretty tough to be dragging heavy luggages over to and fro in the rain or snow. Else if it was slightly nearer to the food areas, it would have been spectacular, else it's perfect!
WWenjing_susieTransportation: After arriving at Takayama Bus Station, take a bus to Fukuchi Onsenkou, which is about an hour's drive. You can see the hotel when you get off the bus, which is very convenient.
Environment: Traditional Japanese inn, the overall environment is good, and the wood is very elegant. The facilities in the room are a bit old, but clean. The room is quite large. The hot springs are divided into indoor and outdoor, and there are two private baths. There is no extra charge. You can go in and use them when no one is there. You can enjoy the public pool alone during non-peak hours, which is very comfortable. Since the hotel is far away from the bus terminal, there are more local tourists than hotels near the terminal. There are fewer people overall and the experience is good.
Service: Non-Japanese native speakers have difficulty communicating, and the waiters generally do not understand English, so it is difficult to provide services. The service is not very enthusiastic, but it can basically meet the needs. There is no bed-making service at night, so you need to do it yourself.
Food and Beverage: The room rate includes two meals, which is very cost-effective. Breakfast and dinner are both Japanese, and dinner includes Hida beef. The quantity is quite large, and you can eat full, and the taste is acceptable.
The overall level is good, especially the price is very affordable among all hot spring hotels. It is a choice I would recommend to my friends.
GGuest UserVery nice hotel, cost-effective, located just opposite the Hirayuhan! I like the hotel's hot springs very much. We stayed at the Hirayuhan on the first day, and the Hirayuhan was full on the second day, so we moved here to stay another night! I personally think it is better than the Hirayuhan opposite! I will stay at this hotel next time I come
AAnonymous UserJapanese-style Ryokan. As indicated by hotel, no private bathroom or sink is provided and has ”curfew” at 11pm. Public bath is quite small (3pax for male, 2pax for female) but very large for pax count with an indoor and outdoor bath area. Area is not near public transport but is on the same side and near Miyagawa Morning Market and Sake Breweries (~10min).
Wwondrous lifeStaying at Hostel Miyagawa by Murasaki Ryokan was truly one of the highlights of my trip — an unforgettable experience that beautifully blended comfort, tradition, and hospitality. From the moment I arrived, I was welcomed into a warm, peaceful atmosphere that reflected the essence of a traditional Japanese ryokan. The design of the space is charming and authentic, with thoughtful touches that bring out the beauty of Japanese culture. Everything from the tatami rooms to the meticulously clean facilities made the stay incredibly comfortable. What truly made it special, though, was the feeling of calm and connection to local traditions that this place offers. It’s more than just a place to sleep — it’s a cultural experience in itself. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to immerse themselves in an authentic and beautiful ryokan stay.
GGhazaliA family owned hotel with Japanese room and natural hot spring onsen near Shin-Hotaka Ropway. There are indoor bathrooms and open-air bathroom with natural hot spring water. Good environmental open-air hot spring bath, the rooms are little bit run down but comfortable. He took me to Ropway station after checked-out.
WWaWa_MacKoyo is a nice petite onsen. There is free private onsen which can cater 2 ppl. I really enjoy it since I am not used to bathing with others.
They have a few different onsen, go and enjoy…
The food (dinner and breakfast) were really good
…yummy yum
The only thing I’m want to comment is the insuite bathroom, it was really small…no hook and place for you to put your stuffs……
It was just so mini..
XXiaoguaiguaijannieThere were no rooms available around the Takayama Festival, so I chose this place which is more than 10km away from Takayama. Due to traffic control, I arrived at the hotel at 9 o'clock and thought I couldn't have dinner, but the store was very thoughtful and helped me reserve dinner. When I entered the restaurant, I found that I was not the last to check in, and there was a table next door that had not been eaten.
There are no bathroom facilities in the house, so I have to run out to wash, which is a bit troublesome. Everything else is good.
DDuboisTristanThis place was absolute amazing! By far our favorite place from our whole trip. The location was absolutely perfect for the Takyama festival. We were literally right there with shops and street vendors 50 yards away and the parades would have been right there as well if they weren't canceled due to rain. The rooms were humble and traditional and really added to the experience. The tea in the room was exceptionally good and the traditional Japanese breakfast they served was also delicious and fun to eat. We didn't even know they had a legitimate hot spring on site, but they did! They are Japanese style baths so be ready for that, but the water was therapeutic and so relaxing. I cant recommend this place enough and I would absolute make it a point to visit Takyama and stay here again for a few days on our next trip to Japan. They were such great kind hosts. And I cant believe the price, what an great value. Do yourself a favor and stay here. I'm not sure why the other bad reviews are here I read some of them and they sound like entitled stupid American tourists so ignore them and stay here.
