"Great place for the price and location. Unfortunately, the stay was impacted by renovation works in the apartment above. Tradies started as early as 7:15am, making it incredibly noisy and difficult to relax. It really would have been better if the room had been blocked out until the works were completed."

"We stayed at Sydney Central Hotel, managed by The Ascott Limited, during our holiday in the last week of September. The hotel was mainly intended for us as a place to have breakfast, sleep, and relax after a day out exploring the city. In my view, a good hotel is one where I never have to call housekeeping or the front desk to get basic things done. Unfortunately, this was not the case here, nor in my previous stay at Somerset Grand Hanoi, also managed by Ascott, where I faced similarly unpleasant experiences. In Hanoi, the water heater malfunctioned in very cold weather. After a long day outside, my young kids were forced to bathe in cold water, and we had to endure late-night repair work in the room instead of resting. It completely ruined that part of our trip. At Sydney Central Hotel, issues continued. Although we requested early check-in, and were given a room around 2:30 pm, we immediately discovered clothes left behind by the previous occupants in the cabinet. The reception staff was polite and gave us another room, but it was more dated than the first. Later that night, we found that the bathtub drain stopper was missing, making the tub unusable. Despite multiple calls and reminders over four days, the issue was never resolved. Housekeeping was also inconsistent — we were four guests, yet towels provided were often just two or three. On one occasion, we were told an additional towel could only be arranged the next day, which was unacceptable. To add to the frustration, the manager even made a remark about the booking site used, leaving the impression that guests who don’t book directly are not valued. The only positive aspect was that when we had to leave early before breakfast, the staff arranged takeaway breakfast packs for us. Overall, the lack of service quality and basic attention to guest comfort made this stay disappointing. A holiday should not be overshadowed by repeated calls and requests for essentials that should be standard. Based on these experiences, I will be avoiding such properties in the future."

"Hotel location is good, near central station, Haymarket station. Staffs are friendly and helpful. The only slight disappointment was that the room wasn't cleaned thoroughly—there were hairs and blood stains on the towel and duvet cover."

"The location is really good. It’s right next to the central station and also has a tram stop right in front of it. The bed was comfy. The bathroom is a little bit too small. There is only one toilet and two shower room on my floor so it is bit packed in the morning."

"Excellent location - extremely convenient. Quick and easy to get everywhere thanks to proximity to the light rail, along with being walking distance from darling harbour. Unfortunately the hotel messed up our booking and there was no family room available upon our arrival but we were upgraded to a suite which was great. A shame we had to wait until 3pm to check in which is rather late in comparison to most hotels. The room itself was clean and tidy though I would say not really ‘4 star’. Overall it was a solid stay for our family of three but I would suggest the hotel is being a little cheeky with their ‘suggestion’ that room cleaning only happens every 4 days- I want my rubbish cleaned out every day thankyou!"

"The best hostel for solo travellers. I was a bit hesitant at first given that the only available room was the mixed dorm. However, the room is clean, quiet, enough space for luggages. I think the best thing I noticed is the cleanliness and the travellers who were checking in because they are all well-mannered. It was a bummer that it was fully booked on my last day on Sydney. I transferred to a different hostel across the street and just massive comparison. Can bring big luggage here, there is a lift!!!"
